“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Found this place through Groupon, and was treated like royalty by the staff. I had to change my reservations twice and was fully accommodated both times. The location is prime, and I was told where to find free parking two blocks away so I did not have to pay the $25 fee for the garage. The entry is unconventional (you have to walk down a hallway between two restaurants and then take two more turns to get to the registration desk) but the signage gets you where you need to go. The accouterments in the rooms are top notch - bedding, toiletries, towels, flatscreen TV, and the microwave even has a baking element. I do think it is a bit of a stretch to call the microwave stacked on the refrigerator in the bedroom a "kitchenette." But they do provide lovely plates, bowls, and glasses if you ask. The exercise equipment is also very nice, although it is stationed in a large storage room. Out back behind the rooms they have created a lovely "secret garden" of gurgling fountains, sitting areas, and a hot tub for 4.
This is definitely a "one of a kind" place, funky chic is a good description, and the customer service was excellent!

What an incredible disappointment! The hotel accommodations were fine - kind of funky chic - and the location is great for the Plaza. But I booked my stay through Priceline, only to arrive to find out that there is an additional "Resort Fee" of $25 for parking, hot tub, and Google TV. However, we weren't able to get a parking pass (other guests had them - apparently more important than we were) and the hot tub was disgustingly filthy and out of commission during our stay.

We were promised that the resort fee would be waived (as it should be) several times during our stay, and confirmed that the credit had been processed before our departure. However, after 4 months of completely ignoring my phone calls and emails, the credit never appeared. To add insult to injury, the booking confirmation - which was not sent to me until AFTER our stay - showed that the Priceline rate included the resort fee already! So not only did I not get the "credit" that was offered me, but I was BILLED TWICE for the fee. Fortunately the credit card company removed the charge, against the protest of the hotel, so I only paid the fee once, which was once too many.

I accept the fact that screw ups happen, and I appreciate a business making an attempt to do right by a customer. But I have never been treated in such a two-faced manner before. Should have been a great stay, but the Luxx ruined our first visit to Santa Fe. As another reviewer stated, they can't be trusted.

My cousin booked this hotel through Expedia. The money was already out of her account. We get to the hotel and Justin says he doesn't see our reservation. We show him the confirmation and then begins to explain how they've had a glitch with the computer system that doesn't show these reservations. He then couldn't find a comparable hotel and wanted to put us in an inferior one; HOWEVER, said he couldn't pay for one that cost more. He even went on to say how he had to put one person in a Motel 6 AND the man still had to pay for that! They didn't even comp him. Ultimately, it took my cousin getting on the phone with Expedia and us winding up at the Hilton which was great. This took us over an hour. I've stayed at hotels around the world and this is the worse customer service I've ever seen. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY!

We booked two rooms more than two months before the trip and we were bumped at the last minute! Trip planned and nowhere to stay. A very irresponsible hotel. Can't be trusted. Even though we had a confirmation number the hotel would not honor the booking and we were not
compensated for the inconvenience nor did they attempt to locate another hotel for us. This was supposed to be a very special birthday celebration for my Mom.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

We stayed at the Luxx for 2 nights in May. The pictures kind of make it look "swanky," but I'd describe it more as charmingly "funky." It has a wonderful location. You are a block or two from the Plaza and can pretty much walk to anything. The staff were very nice and helpful -- but sometimes there is no one at the desk so you might have to track them down (small property so not hard to find them). The rooms were clean and comfortable. They have a cute little back area with nice fountains and a hot tub if you want to relax with a glass of wine after your day is done. There is also a sushi restaurant and a coffee shop at the front of the building.
We couldn't beat the price for the location. We'd stay there again!

Oh, they have these high tech TV's which might be confusing if you aren't the tech-y type. But we figured it out and loved that we had access to netflix, amazon, etc. at no charge. And the staff is happy to help you out if you need it. :)

We had gotten a Living Social deal for the Luxx in January, and used it for a one night get-out-of-dodge mini mini vacation in March. It really is a nice place, but if it weren't for the 50% off deal, we might never had stayed there. Santa Fe boutique hotels are overly pricey - cute and glitzy, but they tend to be a bit sticker-shocking.

The place itself is a bit hard to locate. Using a GPS, we did find it after 3 passes. The hotel sign is very nondescript, and combined with a sushi restaurant's entrance. That said, we found it (but not the parking area behind the property that the email indicated). Walking to the front desk from the entrance and long dark hallway is a little disorientating on your first go. Past the sushi place and a coffee shop, around a corner or two, you find the 'lobby'. The lobby walls are lined with original artwork by a Czech artist, which is cool, and the check-in person is nice and polite. The overall impression is like an old West bordello, complete with a balcony around the ceiling.

The room we got was a few feet from one of the rear entrances, which lead out to the patio and hot tub area, aka smoking area. The door and the gate off of the street all have a code (same as your room - no key cards), but they proved to be unnecessary as they were always unlocked.

There is a $25 per night 'resort fee', for which you get a parking spot in the garage next door, which regularly is $6 if you parked there on your own, a newspaper, and access to the hot tub (I guess). Fortunately we didn't get charged that because there was a computer problem with pulling up our receipt, which was very nice, as I don't even like to pay those fees in Vegas, let alone Santa Fe.

We drove into town looking for a place to stay and passed by after looking on kayak.com but went inside and booked directly for two nights.

Decor was quirky and charming. The towels and sheets all had that fresh-from-the-dryer scent! Room was smallish and dark, but for the rate it was well worth it! We were mostly out enjoying the sights anyway.

Limited staff that we encountered were all friendly and front desk guys were happy to give tons of recommendations and local tips.

Proximity to the town plaza is great, about a 1 block walk. Some good bars/restaurants right there. If you're looking for exercise, skip the treadmill here and head out to a local trail instead!

PS - we had no such experience of a staff member pushing us to review. We were genuinely pleased with our stay at Luxx!
