“your burning man camp is now a hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

This is a quirky alternative to the upscale B&B scene in downtown Santa Fe. It might strike you as a little bit odd at first, has a strange layout with the rooms sort of centered around a central lounge/checkin area. To me the whole place had a bit of a party vibe, especially the outdoor lounge area which felt like a year round burning man camp (but mellower!).

The owners are definitely disorganized - I had some chaos upon check in - but I booked through priceline and didn't encounter of these fees or taxes that others are complaining about.

My biggest issue with the place was my room (room 10) had no window and was pretty dark. I think it was meant to be an entryway and they'd turned it into a room. It was so dark that it made it really hard to wake up in the morning. I didn't like the implication that they'd turn what was obviously meant to be an entryway into a kind of sub-par room to make a few more bucks. The room was nice, though, and very clean, and bed was very comfy, and it had the added bonus of opening right onto the backyard lounge area.

Best things about this place: Location, cute outdoor lounge area, funky scene with the ability to possibly meet people (I ended up going out dancing with randoms I met in the lobby), amenities (fridge in room, kitchen and laundry if you need it).

Potentially bad things: Disorganized check in process can give a weird initial impression of the place. Some rooms have bad qualities.

Would NOT recommend this place to older travelers, or people who are expecting Service with a capital S. That said, it turned out to be a pretty cool place in a super great location, but it took a little flexibility to come to that conclusion!

I'm not sure how this hotel got in with Hotwire but they are not what they claim to be. The embassy suites charges $99 per night and you get a very clean well stocked true to the word SUITE with a beautiful lobby and a hot cooked to order breakfast. For $91 per night the Luxx offers NOTHING! Then they charge an additional $25 per night resort fee. They do not even explain what the resort fee covers....but I can tell you...it covers NOTHING! It's just a fee to charge a fee is all. Then the rooms were absolutely not clean nor were they worth the price of over $125 per night (room + resort fee). The ceiling fans had about an inch of dust on them which indicates they never get looked at let alone cleaned. The beds were subpar, bedding did not look washed. We could never use the Netflix because supposedly they have only 7 accounts and apparently everyone in the hotel was probably on it which means we had to wait. Unfortunately, Netflix always said unable to use at this time. The website advertises a kitchenette and hot tub but it makes it seem as though every room comes with that. It's actually a community kitchen which was dirty and a hot tub in the middle of the walkway. Whoever the owner hired to decorate and design the hotel, he should ask for his money back. The walls in the room are paper thin! I could clearly hear every conversation from the adjacent rooms as though the people were in my room. If someone was watching TV it was very audible in my room. This hotel was absolutey not worth the money. I've stayed at the Travel Inn off of Cerillos which offered WAY better amenities including a continental breakfast for a lot less and no hidden fees. I will be contacting Hotwire to hopefuly get LUXX off their list. It's not fair to the guests or Hotwire.

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you are a good steward of your money

We were expecting a comfortable near luxury hotel and instead were very dissappointed to be staying in a hotel that did not offer the services or standards ordinarily received in a 3-star hotel. The hotel lobby is staffed only from 10am- 8pm. Part of the time the lobby was staffed by the maintenance man unable to answer questions. The room had left over coffee from last guest, no blanket (they used the bedspread as a blanket), no landline telephone. It seemed more like a hostile than a hotel. In additon there a $25 additional per night resort charge that covered absolutely nothing.

The location was excellent. Also, they just hired a manager who seems genuinely motivated to resolve the issues.

Just beware when Hotwire advertises a 4-star hotel without name in Santa Fe, this is what you are going to get.

Able to make last minute reservations and greeted by an accommodating staff an hour later. The Luxx Plaza Hotel's central location one block off the Plaza is a perfect location for walking to all downtown attractions. The secured, private parking during a busy travel period is a major plus factor! Complimentary perk with neighbor restaurants La Boca (appetizer) and Il Piatto (dessert) with Echo coffee and gelatto next door. Rooms must be sound-proofed, heard no downtown traffic noise. Appreciated the later 11am check out.

Room Tip: for a single traveler, the room size and bath I had were sufficient. Would request one of the larger...

My favorite thing about this place was that it had a full kitchen that was centrally located in the hotel and stocked full of dishes and utensils. Each room had a mini fridge and a microwave/pizza oven which made it very convenient. After reading multiple reviews I knew about the addition of a resort and parking fee although I'm not sure why they just don't include them in the price. They did have an interesting TV setup with flat screens and the ability to surf the net, listen to your own pandora account and even netflix not to mention a ton of other options. There were a few oddities about the place. We booked through either hotwire or expedia and somehow they did not get there were two kids as well as two adults even though we entered it into the reservation. The first night we had a two bedroom place because they had an opening but the second night we had to move to a one bedroom and put the kids on the floor on cots. Between that and our luggage there was hardly any room to move. We opted for a third night and then had another two bedroom room. We often had problems with not enough bath linens and a lot of the time no one is in the office so we could not get any extras. One time we had one wash cloth in the room and went to ask for more and they only had one more. The owner and staff are very nice and helpful when the office is staffed. I would return just because I loved the kitchen option and hate eating out every meal. It is in a great location and an easy walk to all the great shopping and restaurants.

The entire staff was incredibly helpful and worked hard to meet even the smallest request. They all smiled! Customer service is clearly a primary goal. Decor is tasteful. Rooms very clean, comfortable beds and secure. I stayed four nights and offer a positive shout out to any seniors out there... this is a great place to stay. They work hard to take care of you. I will be a repeat customer.

Great Hotel, wonderful stay. The Hotel was very clean and in good condition. The staff was very friendly and happy to help out. It was nice to see that Gordon the owner was available to answer customer questions and to over see that the staff was working hard. The location is very nice and in the heart of downtown Santa Fe. It is close to restaurants, shopping and galleries great for tourists. The building was very safe, many locked doors at night between You and the streets. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and am a repeat customer Myself.
