“Great short stay in Santa Fe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

My sister and I stayed one night at the Hyatt Place Santa Fe in November. We arrived earlier than expected and the gentleman at the front desk allowed us to check in early, which was great. We found the hotel to be very clean and well-kept. We didn't try breakfast, so I can't comment on that. Being there on a Wednesday night, it wasn't too busy. The spa and pool are indoors and we had those all to ourselves.

We had a room with two beds and thought the beds were better than we usually experience when we travel, which means pretty soft. As for location, we had a car and were able to drive into the downtown area easily. The hotel is right off of I-25 and easy to locate. There is a Walmart and several stores located along the same street.

If you don't mind being a short drive away from the downtown area, this is a great hotel. For those who like to be close to the sights, it's definitely too far of a walk for most people, and on a busy road. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel and stay there if I were to be in Santa Fe again.

Room Tip: Request a "mountain view."

The review would have been a 4 if not due to the issues we encountered days after we checked out.
My family had 2 rooms from 12/17 to 12/21, the stay was fine other than 2 things:
-Wireless internet in the rooms does not work very well
-Bad attitude from an employee that was working the kitchen on 12/19 and screwed up an order (mind you the orders are taken by a computer in great detail about the options/combinations, so the mistake was purely human, Jalapenos on nachos for a 3 year old is a big NO-NO).

Even with those things the stay was fine, the problem really started weeks after.
While checking our credit card statement in January, we noticed a charge of ~$200 from the hotel on 12/27 (6 days after checkout). When we called in we were told that it was a penalty due to smoking in the room, needless to say that NO-ONE in my family smokes and no one smoked in those rooms during our stay. We were told that we had to talk to the manager to resolve the situation. We left SEVERAL voice mails with the manager that were NEVER returned, we waited for weeks, even the person at the frontdesk apologized for their manager not responding but said their hands were tied. Well, the issue is still ongoing, it was most likely an honest mistake that could have been easily solvable by anyone that has a little customer focus, but no, now we have to dispute the charge with the credit card, work with the BBB and share our history with sites like this to just warn everyone that as long as everything is fine, this is a nice propery, but if you have an issue, you are in trouble... it is a shame, we plan to go back to Santa Fe many times as we really enjoyed our time there, but unless something drastic happens with management at this hotel, we are going to be choosing another property.

Room Tip: Do not get the rooms at the ends of hte building (200/202 for example), they are smaller than the ot...

Hello,

I apologize for your experience after you checked out of the hotel. I can certainly understand how frustrating unauthorized charges on your credit card can be. I also apologize that you were not contacted by management about your concerns.

I have done some research into your account and see that the charges on your card were reversed on 1/20/12. If this does not match with your records, please contact me at the hotel, and I will personally look into it further and get to to the bottom of it for you.

There has been a management change at the hotel since your visit, and I would very much like the opportunity to serve you again. I am confident that on your next visit, you will find everything at the Hyatt Place in Santa Fe to be exactly as you would expect.

Best regards,

Amy Moriarity

Parking: plenty
Breakfast: free and great selection
NewsPaper: free in lobby
Pool: indoor, hot tub is busy
Cost: we paid $89 total a night
Shuttle: into downtown, free
Service: thumbs down
Location: great
Rooms: modern, very nice
Wifi: free

I was really happy with the modern updated decor of the lobby and our room. The room was spacious and the pullout sofa bed was great since there was 3 of us. The shuttle is a great bonus, if you don't feel like driving into town, they will take you. Each shuttle driver was friendly and gave suggestions for places to eat.

The breakfast was great:
Cereals, fresh fruit, juices, yogurt, breads, pastries, oatmeal

The only part of our stay that was disappointing was the service of the front desk. Half of the time they were never there. Twice I had to walk into the kitchen area to get someone's attention where they were "hanging out." The worst part was the noisy neighbors. Our first night we could hear the people next door. I asked the desk clerk if they could not put someone right next to us since they had 92 rooms and only a few guests. He said no. Not possible. That the computer controlled the room selection. Everyone on the third floor was crammed in one area. The next night I made the same request, please please please. They said no. Then some woman from sales called our room and told me we could buy the room next door if we wanted peace and quiet. I think they missed the point completely. I called corporate customer service, they understood my request and tried to make me happy, much more than the Santa Fe folks.

Booked the room over a month in advance, paid for 2 queen beds. When we arrived we received a room with one full bed for 4 people. Hotel refused to change the room since they were full and had apparently sold our room to another party. Management was rude and spoke derogatorily about Travelocity and that it was our fault for booking through them. Said we got whatever was left. Internet was intermitent in the room, though good elsewhere in the hotel. Free breakfast was cereal, juice, limited fruit, and bread. Maintenance guy at pool was rude. To top it off, our car's rear window was shot out while parked at the hotel, which required a 3 hr trip to/from Alburquerque to fix. Bad experience all around for Hyatt Place Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Don't book through a third party if you want any type of consideration from Hyatt Place Santa Fe

We made reservations and stayed at this Hyatt Place in Santa Fe, NM on New Year's Eve 2011. We got there a bit before check in time but the room was available and we were able to get in early. The lobby was tidy and organized. The gal at the check in desk came out from behind the desk to hand us our room keys and to show us around the lobby area. That was very thoughtful. We even had a choice of floor we wanted for our room. We choose the third (top) floor. We took the elevator to our room to find a very nice and clean room. It had a king bed, large corner couch, work desk and small fridge. There still was plenty of room to walk around in the room. When we looked at the bed we noticed it was full of feather pillows. I have an allergy so called the front desk for non-feather pillows. She asked how many we wanted and we asked for four of them as that was how many were already on the bed. In a few minutes housekeeping came up with three pillows. Oh well, three was a good number, too! We went out for dinner and came back to the room to bring in the new year. The only complaint about this Hyatt Place is the paper thin walls. For some time in the evening our neighbors could be heard but they quieted when we wanted to sleep so that was fine. We would certainly stay in this Hyatt Place again when traveling through Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Upon arrival my party's reservations were completely botched even after having a contract and speaking with sales only a couple of days before. After 24 hours each of 7 couples realized we had been so over-charged for our stay most or us had maxed out credit cards. After 3 hours of run around we spoke with the gen. Manager who guaranteed everything would be fixed. When we checked out from our 4 night stay our bills were still incorrect. None of the employees had a clue. On top of this, several rooms not in our party experienced credit card fraud over the phone, for which the police had to step in!

We drove up from the south and could not find this hotel, we went past it 3 times, it is tucked in behind another hotel & Petrol station, best way to find it is look for the Tyre Store and take that turning, and you will see the hotel on the right. Well there is no undercover parking that we could see so we parked outside the front of the hotel. The lobby is clean and tidy and some nice chairs to lounge in , the desk is small and not always attended but the staff are never far away and come to you as soon as they see you. They were lovely people, pleasant to talk to and very helpful. Our room choice was the King room and it was very impressive, great bed, really comfortable, separated slightly from the living area by a small partisan. There was a large plasma TV and we flicked through the channels etc and hotels features. There was a large Walk in type wardrobe and the bathroom was a nice compact size, with good water flow from the shower. Our window overlooked the car park and the petrol station, we could watch people filling up etc we did hear a Harley during the night but apart from that is was pretty quite. We dressed up a bit to go to Coyote Cafe ( see other review ) and the girl on the desk complemented my wife on how beautiful she looked and what a lovely dress she was wearing, this is those little touches that make you want the come back again. The hotel has a courtesy bus which you have to book in advance, we came down 5 minutes before the due time and the bus had already left, the girl phoned them up and they returned with the other guests aboard to pick us up. The thing that we never realised was how far away from the Historic Square we were. So factor in Taxi fares and how hard it is to get one that far out, we even struggled to get one back from the square you can wait up to hour. All up a great hotel, rooms very comfortable, plenty of room, breakfast usual type, but I was not that hungry after eating at Coyote Cafe and the Coffee was nice.

Room Tip: On a Friday and Saturday night getting a cab you can wait up to an hour for one.
