Forget the strip mall location and the diner decor. While charming and unassuming, it really doesn't do justice to the quality of Chef Roland's menu. The owners have expanded past Pizza Etc, the place they owned for many years, and are now offering a more varied menu of everything from cheeseburgers to goose risotto. The genius of it is that many ingredients are locally obtained, making Joe's one of the largest purchasers of New Mexico-grown products. We were particularly impressed by the mozzarella cheese produced in-house. Ours was made just minutes before hitting our table. And the mozzarella isn't an anomaly; nearly all of the items are made in their own kitchen, including the pastries and the bread. The prices are extremely reasonable considering the quality of preparation and of ingredients. The service is efficient and very friendly as well. Roland himself came out to chat for a few minutes. Despite its location far from the Plaza and most of the attractions, this was one of our favorite stops. It is well worth the trek off the beaten path.
