I am a huge fan of the Marriott chain of hotels. Every stay has always been totally awesome and I always get a very nice, lovely, clean and comfortable room.

Until now. You know, I pulled up in front of the hotel and thought to myself, "self, this doesn't look good". Self was right. First off, I didn't get the usual warm and friendly greeting from the front desk. And this lady was supposed to be a "manager". Alright. Also, the layout was weird and I had to drag my suitcase thru the courtyard, all through a couple different hallways to get to the elevator. Hotel maintenance is not a priority at the property. Even the elevator console panel need work. My room was AWFUL. The carpet was worn and dirty. The bathroom was grossly out of date. The linens were also worn and the TV armoire rattled as I walked by it. Checking out of this place was also a hassle. They seemed amazed that I didn't like my room. Yes, you are correct. I didn't spend the night, 15 minutes was enough for me in this hotel. They did offer a phone and the yellowpages so I could find another hotel. I guess that was very nice of them. I passed.

Also, just a word of warning. Carefully check out where you plan to stay in Santa Fe. I found out that they don't have a lot of really great hotels. It took me over an hour to find a clean place to stay. This is true, I swear.

I visited the spectacular Santa Fe not once but TWICE in 2005—the first time for the famed Writer's Conference and the second time for business. In the latter instance, I stayed at this Courtyard due to the excellent corporate rate my client had.

The front desk put me in a quiet location, a nice touch considering that a national conference (with many naturally exuberant attendees) was taking place at this facility at the same time. The room was nearly immaculate, with plenty of space to work, eat, and sleep.

Parking was quite safe at night. Just be sure to have a window scraper handy when staying from October to April/May, as the quite chilly nights leave a frost so thick that even the best windshield wiper can barely touch it in the morning.

My only gripe is the poor excuse for a restaurant that's on site. One breakfast there was all it took for me to go to Whole Foods Market on Cerrillos just north of St. Francis (WF opens at 7 a.m. with one of the best morning buffets anywhere) and to IHOP on the other mornings of my trip. Just the idea of all the wonderful places to eat in and around Santa Fe should motivate even the weariest traveler to bypass the Courtyard's compost pile that masquerades as an eatery!

    • Disliked — The restaurant (When reviewers 2 years after my stay are STILL giving it the thumbs down, that should tell y'all something!)

Recently stayed overnight while visiting Sante Fe in route to Taos.
Rooms were larger than average and very comfortable beds and pillows. The bathrooms appeared to have had under gone renovation and were very adequate and clean. The restaurant on the premises was very convenient for weary travelers who did not want to venture out for a meal. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

“Bad location (avoid unless using points)”

Well ... we chose property because we could use Marriott points and were spending only 2 nights at hotel before heading to a nice B&B in Taos. We knew that location wasn't great but overall, we didn't realize how far we were away from the heart of Sante Fe.

Property is pretty close to interstate and on a fairly rundown stretch of road. Traffic can be bad getting to and from the Sante Fe Square. Construction made it worse.

We were upgraded to a suite .. but the suite is more a studio type.

Overall, the hotel feels like a 20+ year old Courtyard that hasn't gone thru a major renovation yet. Room was dark ... furnishings were just OK, and bathroom was the old style Courtyard. Pool did work out well for our 2 year old but even the pool area looked tired. One of the 2 jacuzzi's looked like it had been out of service for years.

The plusses - staff was friendly and very accomodating. Likewise, we got take-out service from the hotel's restaurant. The food was much better than the average Courtyard and there is a full bar.

In summary, if you want to use Marriott points and accept the fact you are 15 minutes from central Santa Fe, this property works. Otherwise, we wouldn't recommend.

“Good choice if you don't want to be downtown”

We stayed for three nights last week, and it was a good choice. The room was large, although the bathroom was small. Everything was clean. The hotel is set up with open hallways and courtyards, so the layout is a bit confusing. Also, you need the hotel key to access any door other than the lobby, as my husband found out after deciding not to take a dip in the pool. A cafe is located within the hotel, and an IHOP is located next door. There are several restaurants (chain and otherwise) along Cerillos Road. The hotel was located about 5 miles away from downtown, and the room price reflected that. However, I suggest staying elsewhere if proximity to downtown is important.
