“great place in Sante Fe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2006

We stayed at Hacienda Nicholas during Thanksgiving week and recommend it highly. Our room and the common room were attractive and comfortable. The innkeepers were extremely helpful and informative during our stay and provided wonderful breakfasts as well as coffee, tea , and snacks through the day and wine and cheese in the afternoon. The location is ideal - an easy 2-3 block walk from the Plaza. We enjoyed easy access to the prime attractions and could retreat to a quiet neighborhood between outings. We will stay at the Hacienda Nicholas when we return to santa Fe.

We fell in love with the Hacienda Nicholas the minute we walked in the door! The smell of freshly baked cookies filled the entire inn. The innkeeper was sweet and friendly as she showed us our room and helped us make dinner reservations. We stayed in the Sunflower room, which was bright and cozy, much like the name suggests. The decorations in the “mess hall” made us feel like we were in a John Wayne movie. Their wine and cheese event in the evenings gave us the perfect opportunity to meet and greet our fellow inn guests. With blazing fireplaces inside and outside in the courtyard, everyone seemed to find a comfy place to enjoy the goodies! For breakfast we had Belgian waffles, an endless supply of fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, and homemade granola (to die for!). We were stuffed all day long! This was the perfect way for my husband and I to spend our first vacation in 10 years without the kids! We can't wait to come back next year!

  • Liked — the staff was very well informed about local hot spots as well as hidden gems
  • Disliked — parking lot
  • Tips/Secrets — even if you don't drink, do the wine and cheese, it's really fun!

My friend and I stayed two nights at Hacienda Nicholas and loved the ambiance, the very friendly and helpful staff, the wonderful casual breakfasts, the other guests... in fact just about everything about the inn. I often stay in B&Bs because I like a more informal and friendly environment than most hotels offer. This inn was one of the warmest and friendliest I have ever stayed in. They also had the most comfortable beds... so much so I had to ask about the mattrasses and found another guest already asking the same question when I approached the owner, Catherine. The other guests were wonderful too... an indication that the inn attracts really nice people. Catherine was there every morning to see greet her guests and make sure that all was in order, and Anna, the innkeeper was just wonderful. The decor of the inn is really "New Mexico" with beautiful rustic New Mexican tiles in all the bathrooms, comfy sofas by the fireplace in the main room, and a simple, not overdone approach to wall decorations. I will definately stay here again.

We really enjoyed our three night stay at the Hacienda Nicholas. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, the Hollyhock, but it was perfect for our needs. The beds were extremely comfortable and linens were very soft. We travel with our 2 small dogs, and they were welcomed here with a small fee. The breakfasts were delicious and filling and the atmosphere was cozy. The innkeeper kept a nice fire going in the morning and during the wine and cheese hour in the evening. There were delicious cookies available for an afternoon snack. We have been to a number of B&Bs throughout the country and this was certainly among our favorites.

  • Liked — The comfortable common room with a fireplace
  • Disliked — The driveway/parking lot area. Having to pay in full before our visit.

My wife and I spent a thoroughly delightful three nights at Hacienda Nicholas in The Sunflower Room. It is spacious, has a charming kiva fireplace in one corner that we could view from our bed or from the two easy chairs in the room. The bathroom was equally spacious, brightened with Mexican tile. We liked this room because it was separate from the main inn and we could enjoy more quiet and privacy. The staff could not have been more gracious and helpful, and gave lots of suggestions of places to go and restaurant reservations. They were constantly busy in the kitchen making wonderful treats, whether for breakfast or munching. We had a great lemon blueberry cake one day, and found the breakfasts to be very generous and tasty. My wife is a gourmet cook, and she gave the place a big thumbs up for the food. We also enjoyed having a fire going for us at both breakfast and the evening wine & cheese hour, along with candles. It made for a really warm and soothing environment. Because the inn is so close to the Plaza and Canyon Road, we rarely drove anywhere, except for a day trip to Bandalier (well worth it) and some evenings for dinner. The weather was really warm and sunny, considering the time of year, and a nice break from our cold and grey weather. All in all, we were extremely happy with Hacienda Nicholas and would definitely stay here again should we return to Santa Fe.

Wonderful, warm-hearted, welcoming & clean - for a start! The staff helped create a homey warmth that caused the guests to make bonds, share stories and begin friendships. Rooms were generous, clean and had all the amenities one could want. Food was better than the local fare in Santa Fe - they should consider offering lunch!

Great place and great service! Dollar for dollar the best value in town.
