“Old But Still Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

Great location near the Plaza. Front porch sitting area great for people watching, drinks and something to eat. Due to age of hotel rooms are small but feel larger due to the big windows. Restaurant and bar are friendly and the food and drinks are very good. Staff is friendly and responsive.

The lobby of the hotel is stunning, with the feel of a Spanish courtyard and the location is also excellent within easy walking distance of historic sites, restaurants and museums. The rooms were small, but clean, tastefully decorated, comfortable and quiet. Definitely enjoy an evening drink on the the outside patio and people-watch.

This is a beautiful historical hotel in a great location. Front desk service (Sean) was excellent, he seemed to be there around the clock but was always friendly and helpful. Rooms are small when compared to modern hotels but they were comfortable, clean, attractive and functional. Kelsey (bartender) provided excellent service in the lounge. She was friendly and made great drinks.

Excellent hotel for me as solo motorcycle traveller to spend almost a week in downtown Santa Fe. Since I did a lot of camping on my 10'000 miles trip, I was looking for a hotel both comfortable and classy, but not overly fancy. I was prepared to pay more than the usual motel rate. I got a surprisingly fair deal. The hotel is in mission monastery stile, has several floors, the modern renovation maintained this and at the same time offering great comfort. Location couldn't be better. Very nice loggia at the entrance. The lobby, unlike so many american hotels with freezing a/c, was at comfortable temperatures, sth a european traveller realizes with pleasure. I can highly recommend this hotel.

Really neat hotel right in the middle of downtown. Close to shopping and artisans. Small clean room. Bar is nice with patio. Food service ends at 9:00 pm which makes for a hungry night after a few beverages.

This is my 2nd stay at the St. Francis Hotel. I realized that everything I love about this hotel is Free to the general public. So I am not sure I will stay here again and pay the expensive room rates. For instance, the hotel lobby is a beautiful, spartan Spanish Colonial retreat. Each floor has a landing with interesting old photos with explanations. The front of the hotel has a shaded porch with wonderful seating. But you really don't need to spend the night at $250++ to experience these things. What you get in a 'Classic' room is a room that really is too small even for 1 couple. My husband and I seemed to always be trying to let the other person pass in the narrow space that surrounds the bed. The bathroom sink is situated at the foot of the bed! ? With almost no space for toiletries. The bathroom is a tiny space that includes the toilet and a shower with no light overhead and although I tried to avoid it - water went all over the floor after each shower. Their website does try to prepare you for the fact that this is a small room, but I was surprised at just how small it really is …. and I have seen some pretty small rooms in Europe :) ! The last time I stayed here I must have been in a 'Deluxe' room vs a 'Classic' room. The bed was extremely comfortable! Check in and Check out was easy and pleasant - Ann was very friendly and easy to work with! I know they can not make the rooms bigger….. but something they could do, that would help make up for the small rooms is to provide a Coffee/Tea service. Each floor has a very nice, large landing that would provide a very nice place to get a cup of coffee/tea ….. maybe a cookie! I ask a waitress in the lobby bar for a cup of Tea to take up to my room one evening ….. she was very accommodating and went right to work finding a tea bag, hot water and nice glass mug….. ($5 and a tip) so it is possible to get what you want/need. But at these rates a convenient cup of coffee in the morning would go a long way. As a final comment I have to add….. To the Management….. I think you need to take a look at the gathering of the homeless across the street. I witnessed a few arguments on the street and the police did intervene one evening. I never felt threatened, but it seems as if this has increased since I was at your property last.

Room Tip: The hotel itself is very quiet, the street outside on the covered porch was a little louder that it...

Dear VikiDGO, it's great to get your review. We appreciate you choosing the Hotel St Francis for a second stay! We hope to welcome you back for a third, and offer you an upgrade to one of the deluxe rooms you stayed in before. Even if you are booked in a traditional room, we are happy to offer very reasonable upgrades depending on our availability. We are also working with the Santa Fe Police Department to increase surveillance on our block. Thank you for taking the time to create a review! Sincerely, Alder Seaman

I spent three hot nights in the Hotel St. Francis recently and found it quite pleasant but not as good as I hoped. I would rate it somewhere between three and four dots, but of course, that isn't possible. The lobby is sublime. Cool, spacious, tasteful, cold water with lemon always available (probably just during the hot season). When it's as hot out as it was during my visit, just walking in is delightful. The room not quite so much. The decor I found pleasing and restful, but a bit frustrating. WHO DOES bedside tables in a hotel without a drawer? Nowhere to put away my personal effects. This is really not okay for a hotel of this quality. An armoire with drawers that can't open unless the doors are open to their absolute fullest extent. And nowhere in the room does it indicate that the coffee and tea service advertised as included must be requested. They don't want to clutter the room. So could they not put a card on the tray with the glasses with this information? The tray is hidden inside the armoire - voilà! No clutter! Visitor informed! At least the bathroom has hooks on the door - why do hotels not provide enough hooks? But there is nowhere to hang your towel near the shower, so you have to drape it on the bathtub, put it on the floor, or drip over to it. The bed has springs that make it bounce wildly with any little move. They use a slick mattress cover and unfitted sheets. I absolutely HATE sleeping on unfitted sheets. A hotel of this caliber could bloody well provide sheets that stay on the bed and don't slide wildly with every movement. How uncomfortable! And my last comment - Oh la la, that concierge! What an unpleasant person. Everything she said to me was negative and un-encouraging. She might need replacement with someone who loves people.
