“Superb location, great service, blissful quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

This hotel is in the center of old Santa Fe, so the location couldn't be better. The service from the desk staff was excellent. The only down was that, when we first checked in, the queen room we had reserved was very small. We had quite a bit of luggage, and there wasn't really room for our stuff and not even a chair in the room. They were, fortunately, able to upgrade us to a room on the ground floor with two doubles, which was much larger and had more storage and space to move around (at a higher price.) I was concerned that, being so close to the lobby, it might be noisy. Not so! With the door closed, we heard not a peep from either side, above, or the hallway, probably because of the older thicker walls and the high ceilings. Even the heat/air was quiet. Make sure you ask about the size of the room when making reservations. Also watch for promotions; our third night was free.
The hotel itself has a monastery theme with an attractive lobby. We would have liked a puffy chair and a full-length mirror in the room, but perhaps that wasn't in keeping with the cloister vibe.
The restaurant - Tabla de los Santos - was excellent. See our separate review, and the atmosphere in the bar on Friday and Saturday evening was lively but respectable. Parking is either just next to the hotel or in the lot across the street: self parking at a reasonable $11 per day. A concierge is available. NO vending machines or ATM, but stop at the "Five and Dime" about two blocks away for both. The steamer in the room didn't work well, but they brought us an iron and ironing board on request.
Overall, a good, clean, friendly place where we would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room unless you are travelling alone, have very little luggage, or just like a cozy...

Thank you for choosing Hotel St. Francis during your visit to Santa Fe and taking the time to share your experience with us. We are happy to have accommodated you during your stay. Our hotel was remodeled in 2008 and was designed to have a simple monastery ambiance, therefore, there are some items that are not in the rooms but are available upon request; this includes full length mirrors and chairs. That being said we are glad to know that our location and staff made your stay enjoyable. We would like to welcome you back to our historic Hotel St. Francis to enjoy a meal in Tabla de los Santos. You pay for location at the Hotel St. Francis. At $169, the small room and amenities, though nice, would not measure up if the hotel were a few more blocks away from the plaza. Attention to detail would help--the clock radio blinked the incorrect time, some of the towels were so heavy duty they could be better used to wash the car. The television cabinet is clunky and too big for the room, the divided bathroom too difficult to maneuver in. The bed has the now typical white sheets, comforter and about seven pillows. It was nowhere near firm and sagged. Not an overall bad experience, but taking the price and easily made improvements it could have been better. I wonder if any hotel management do trial overnights in the rooms (here or anywhere else) in order to get an accurate guest experience.

Room Tip: Hotel offers parking for $11/night--do it.

Thank you for staying at Hotel St Francis and for posting a review, WCiardiello. We are glad you liked our downtown location and amenities. Some of our rooms have unique layouts due to the historic nature of the building; when we remodeled in 2008 we could not knock down any walls. We do offer room moves and upgrades and our off-season rates are quite reasonable even in the larger deluxes. Your feedback about the guest room details is very valuable to us and we have already passed your comments on to the appropriate departments. We would love to welcome you back to enjoy a deluxe room and a delicious meal at our restaurant Tabla de los Santos the next time you are in the area. Alder Seaman

Great staff, beautiful property and fantasitc location. However, the standard queen room, discounted for the military, was too small for a two people. How come the smallest of the standard rooms are reserved for the government/military rates? Yes, my husband and I have endured some teeny, tiny quarters over the span of two military careers, but we got hazardous duty pay for doing so!

Hello Carrol H and thank you for taking a moment to post a review of your stay with at Hotel St Francis. We are so happy that you liked our convenient downtown location and that the staff impressed you. Our historic hotel is indeed lovely and well cared for and we are thrilled you liked its charm. In regards to the room size, we do offer military rates in our larger deluxe rooms as well; either way we are always happy to offer upgrades or room moves depending on availability. We love being able to give discounts to military and government employees and we hope to welcome you back the next time you are in the area! Alder Seaman

Have spent the last couple of days here at Hotel St. Francis. This is our third trip to Santa fe since our daughter now goes to school here. The hotel is very well cared for..looks old but not in a dirty way which happens so often in renovated historic properties like these. The rooms are small but the bed is very comfortable and has a ton of great pillows. The rooms are extremely clean and the bedding is soft, white plush..everything my wife looks for in a room. We had drinks in the Secreto Bar and the prices are very reasonable for Santa fe..Happy Hour is great. The front desk staff is incredibly pleasant and helpful.
Only possible negative I can see is the room doors are a little thin with some gaps so noise could be an issue if you have the wrong kinds of neighbors but we have had zero issues. You can hear the other doors open and close and conversations but nothing worth even remotely complaining about.
One of its primary amenities is the location which is just a couple blocks from the Plaza and all the restaurants and shops. Parking is available for $11 per day which is fine and they will cover your parking if their lot is full and you have to park across the street in public parking.
This is a wonderful property and glad we are here two more days. Will definitely stay here again the opportunity arises.

Room Tip: 3rd floor....rooms have wood floors so not sure if floors below can hear walking above.

The Hotel Santa Fe is in the heart of Santa Fe and close to wonderful shopping , restaurants, and historic landmarks. A great walking tour is offered through the hotel. Excellent restaurant featuring gourmet selections. Rooms are beautifully decorated. Staff are friendly and helpful! I had a great stay!

Room Tip: If you want a coffee pot, you need to ask for one at the front desk.

I stayed here with family for three nights. The only blemish to the experience was finding our assigned room was still occupied...the hotel was quick to remedy this by providing another room for our large party.

I see other reviews describing it as "austere" and "cramped." I thought the interior designs were able to capture that Santa Fe spirit with original furnishings like the hand-made desks, and there is a nodding gesture to the spirit of St. Francis and the contemplative spirit throughout the hotel's design. You can tell the hotel has a long history in the area, which it showcases through old photographs and even actual hotel registers from 1928 on display in the hallways.

It's simple and comfortable, and not overwhelmingly modern or luxurious as other hotels in the area seem to be.

You also really can't beat the hotel's location and setting. It's in walking distance of great coffee shops and restaurants, and the downtown plaza. Parking is either on the hotel lot or provided free of charge in the city lot right across the street.

Thank you for choosing Hotel St. Francis and taking the time to share your experience with us. We are honored to have accommodated your family's needs while visiting Santa Fe. We are glad to know your family enjoyed our historic property, photographs, and decor. The hotel was remodeled in 2008 with the intension to capture a simple, Franciscan look while restoring our Santa Fe history; we are happy to hear we did just that. We would like to welcome your family back to enjoy a simple, comfortable modern hotel in the historic Hotel St. Francis. Jarenda Ortiz

We stayed in the Hotel St Francis when we got caught in bad weather and the roads were too icy to return to our home (we live an hour away). We stayed at HSF thinking to turn the evening into aromantic little mini vacation.
It turns out the HSF theme is based on the austere surroundings of a convent/monestary. There is a lot of nice stonework but few decorations, colors or ammenities. We found the room and bathroom VERY small, window overlooked a parking lot. The bed was comfortable and the TV worked but the TV cabinet was 12 inches from the left side of the bed and to see it you had to sit sideways on the bed. There was no other place to sit. In addition, there were two accidental fire alarms which had me racing for the front door, carrying my boots and parka. The staff was friendly and helpful but for the price, I was disappointed.

Room Tip: See the room before you stay.

Thank you for choosing the Hotel St Francis and for posting a review about your experience with us. We appreciate your comments and we are so glad our staff and guest service was to your liking. Our beds are indeed a favorite for many of our guests! Our hotel was remodeled in 2008 to give it the "Franciscan" theme; the intent was to keep the rooms simple for less distraction in our busy, artsy city. It is one of the oldest hotels in Santa Fe as well, so in remodeling we could not knock walls down. We do apologize for any difficulty during your stay and rest assured we thoroughly looked into the fire alarms to ensure this does not happen again. Your feedback is very valuable and we hope to welcome you back for a delicious dinner or original cocktails in our bar and restaurant the next time you are in Santa Fe. Alder Seaman
