“Pleasant, serene, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2011

We happened to get a good room- deluxe instead of traditional king- but I saw other open doors, with very small rooms. Everything was clean, comfortable. Great bed. Helpful, happy people.
loved a simple dinner in the restaurant.

I liked many things about this hotel: simple, elegant decor. Fabulous bar (El Secreto), historic building and super central location in Santa Fe. However, the room size made me feel like I was in New York City and not Santa Fe. We booked the standard room, which was the size of a shoebox, overlooking the parking lot. We had not space for 2 pieces of luggage. a very small closet area, no full length mirror, no light over the shower in the bathroom. Maybe if I was traveling alone this would not have bothered me that much, but with two people in the room it felt way too crowded and not a good value for the rate they charged us. Housekeeping did an ok job, but i was also surprised that the mgmt of the hotel would let them clean the lobby and main areas all day long, vs trying to be a bit more low key about it. Don't think I will stay here again if I were to come back to Santa Fe, unless I get offered a larger room at the same rate.

Room Tip: Be very specific about your room and try not to get a standard room if you value a bit of space.

I am sorry to hear that you were not comfortable in your room. Yes, our standard rooms can be quite cozy but no two rooms are the same. My front desk staff are very well versed in the offerings of each different room and are happy to work with our guests to find accomodations that would assure a pleasant stay. As a hotel on the registry of Historic Hotels, the structure remains the same as the day it was built in 1920. One of the oldest hotels in Santa Fe, staying with us is more than just a comfortable bed but an experience and while this experience is not for everyone, we appreciate you staying with us.

Just returned from a wonderful visit to Santa Fe for a wedding. Stayed at the St. Francis because of location and availability. Previous reviews have covered the features of the hotel, such as small room sizes, wonderful front porch, bar, etc. I'll simply comment that we had a lovely deluxe King room with chests and refrigerator and complete small bathroom. Also, a small closet for our dress clothes. This hotel is what it is, but restoration has been excellent. My comments are about location--ideal for shopping and walking about--and about service. The staff here is outstanding. Front desk personnel were exceptionally helpful. And the Housekeeping... We had a spillage in our suitcase which was absorbed by my white socks. I threw one pair in the trash because of the stain only to have the housekeeper wash them and return them clean the next day! WOW! My only minor complaint was no 'house' coffee until after 7:30 each morning. BUT Starbucks and Hagen Daaz are close by and my suggestion for coffee service has already been made to the staff. Altogether a wonderful experience in a marvelous downtown for our first visit.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a deluxe king room for the extra room.

This is the second time I have stayed at the St Francis. It is a very unique property with lots of charm and cozy amenities. I would absolutely stay here again for a weekend getaway, vacation or other pleasure trip. However it is not the ideal place for work related travel, as the rooms are not designed with "work" in mind.

So many have complained that the rooms are small and plain - but I think they are authentic and serene and lovely. There's a Marriott nearby if you prefer generic furnishings and windows that don't open more than 2 inches. The lobby, veranda, views, soft linens, friendly staff, and wonderful location are what I love at the St. Francis. The price is much better than the other non-Marriotts, too.

We stayed 10 days here and have just returned. We have visited Santa Fe annually for the last 12 years and have stayed in many locations including other 4 diamond properties. St. Francis is a block from The Plaza, and across from Pascual's restaurant -- so very convenient. Parking is $9/day, the same you would pay if you were staying in any public lot. A recent renovation has updated it beautifully and they managed to keep its historical authenticity and "sense of place" using Spanish colonial furnishings and New Mexican accents. We did not try the lounge or restaurant but the chef formerly had his own restaurant and we enjoyed our meals there. The Lobby is always great to walk into, especially at night with the massive candles lit. Our room was small but we paid a minimal "run of the house" rate and did not care because we do not spend much time in it. Other than the convenenience and a sense of place -- the most important thing to us is the bed and it was a wonderful pillow-top mattress with lots of pillow choices from down-filled to firmer! Water pressure great, complimentary toiletries also great. Walls are thick and solid since it is an old structure, so our stay was very quiet -- we like that! If you are looking for a hotel with a lot of hustle and bustle and a lounge with a lively band, this is not for you. But if you love the real Santa Fe, and appreciate the elegantly simple (and somewhat rustic) charm, the St. Francis is for you. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Lowest rate may mean smaller, interior room with a view of the blue Santa Fe sky and A/C! --Still t...

Nice looking hotel with spacious reception area. Decor is sparse/minimalistic (a few white candles)

Bedroom was tiny, 10ft x 11ft which includes a sink, the "bathroom" is 3ft x 4ft.

I complained to the reception, the best they could offer was "that's what you get in city Hotels"

If you want to stay in a shoebox this is the place for you!

Room Tip: dont take more than 1 bag, or you wont fit it in the room
