This hostel is unlike most in that it operates as a non-profit organization to encourage travel for the sake of education and cultural exchange. If you are looking for clean and predictable surroundings, this might not be for you. But, if you are looking for a cheap and eco-friendly option in Santa Fe, and you like the idea of meeting really interesting fellow travelers in a fully equipped and generously stocked kitchen and common area, and contributing a bit through a small chore as a service to the community, its a great place for you. Good hostels are rarer in America than in Europe or Africa. This one's a gem.

I can't for the life of me put the depressing, dirty place I stayed together with some of the glowing reviews it has received here. The upkeep is dreadful; the staff counts on the guests to clean their spaces and apparently doesn't check to see if this is happening. My friend and I shared a private room with bunk beds and half-bath. The sheets were dirty, full of crumbs and stains, and we were told to leave them on the bed and just cover them with the provided clean sheet sets. There was hair in the sink from where someone had given him- or herself a trim, a heating unit with its cover hanging off and element exposed, and blood on the toilet seat. Throw in the dirty dishes left outside of rooms and the falling-apart furniture in the common room and you have a thoroughly unpleasant stay if you're into cleanliness and comfort.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else, especially if you are sharing expenses with someone. You will get a motel room at...

it is not killed by modernization-some of the charm of the 60ies is alive. Always plenty of organic food in the kitchen. A bus ride from the center away. Amazing people- they help in the community. Highlights of my many stays: at Thanksgiving a professional cook from California was visiting and prepared dinner for all the guests- who wanted did help. Once, after a psycho convention in Santa Fe the most amazing people gave a follow up "seminar' in the lounge.

Room Tip: dormitories -feel again like a kid on a field trip; family rooms; get to know other travelers- excha...

One of the best hostel where I've been. It is really cheap to rent a room and they get a lot of unsold food from the wholefood stores. You got a little chore to do everyday if you choose to get your cleaning deposit back. The staff there was really nice, and my friends enjoyed the hostel aswell.

We stayed here one night on our way west. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and upfront about expectations. The hostel operates on a chore system, where each guest must complete a chore in the morning. While this enables the hostel to operate without cleaning staff, one should have lower expectations for cleanliness when staying here, as your room was likely cleaned by a hurried guest. One of the major perks of the hostel was an arrangement with Whole Foods, where day-old baked goods and near-expired foods are donated to the hostel on Sunday mornings (which happened to be when we were there). We enjoyed lots of delicious, high quality food for free, which we had not expected. The location is good and close to other businesses. Overall, our stay was good, the price was right, and we would be ok staying here again if we pass through Santa Fe.

I've stayed at a lot of hostels around the world and can say for sure this is a really cool one. The location is convenient and less than two miles from Cowgirl BBQ, a great music venue, and quite close to Counter Culture, a great restaurant and café with amazing breakfast burritos.

The owner is super nice and committed to running a good hostel, and the staff are all very nice and helpful. The rooms and common spaces are very clean. A huge perk I have never experienced at a hostel before is the free food. Sunday is bonus day when that morning, the owner brings in an astounding assortment of donated foods from Whole Foods. It's amazing! I fed myself and took food to go as well for my various road trips to ski and check out the local monuments and public lands. I had delicious healthy food to take with me the whole time.

Don't bring hotel standards because it's a hostel. So the beds aren't plush, the walls aren't crazy thick, and there are shared bathrooms unless you pay for your own. But who cares? It's a clean, safe, friendly location with lots of amenities including free food and nice helpful staff. Two thumbs up!!
