This may be one of the most beautiful Hilton Hotels anywhere in the U.S. The hotel itself is nothing short of spectacular. The interior of the hotel is southwest decor but not over-the-top. We came in following The New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque so we arrived at about 6pm. The front desk was understaffed and we waited 10 or 15 minutes to register but we were upgraded to a suite. The room was beautiful!! Clearly this is a new hotel not yet beaten-up but it is clear the staff takes pride in what they are doing. The downside to the hotel is that it is in the middle of nowhere and is attached to a marginal casino. You drive for 30 minutes outside of Santa Fe and if you don't want to eat at the casino you are pretty much screwed. There is really nothing to speak of for miles around the hotel. The casino is really, really ordinary. You pay $8+ for even a bar-stock drink and the folks running the casino bar clearly hate their jobs. {Really cannot blame them as it is not a garden spot.} If you are staying at the hotel for the casino look around more as this casino is not worth the trip. If you just want a really beautiful hotel to sleep in you are at the right location.

  • Liked — The hotel itself!
  • Disliked — The remote location and attached casino.

The Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino in Santa Fe, New Mexico is a Hilton property that opened in Fall 2008. The property is beautiful. The rooms are Southwestern decor. To attend the Paul Anka concert, we stayed on November 22, 2008 on the 5th executive floor (higher rate - not worth it). This particular night the hotel's first concert was being presented (Paul Anka) and it appeared the staff was not prepared or trained for the magnitude of guests. Starting with the valet parking - we had to find someone that would take our car! The lobby is gorgeous and exquisitely decorated. Every staff member that evening appeared to be lost not knowing how to assist guests. The check-in went quick but because the front desk staff was not well trained, she didn't explain the procedure for our breakfast that was included in our package. Upon arriving to our room, we found it to be top notch as all Hiltons. Very comfortable bed, very clean (new) bathroom - everything was in order. We started the gas kiva fireplace to warm the room and went to seek dinner before the concert. Couldn't get into the Red Sage Restaurant as we were told that the dinner experience takes about 2 hours and the concert was to start in one hour. So the maitre'd suggested that we go to the bar as most of their menu items are served there also. At the bar, it was chaotic. Again, I am assuming this crazy behavior is due to the new staff and the concert. We ordered our drinks and some appetizers. The shrimp appetizer is costly but very good. We had to flag down our server to get any type of service and finally the check. Apologies were being given to everyone around us. The restaurant and bar is beautiful - very modern decor with a touch of southwest. The concert went great! Enjoyed the performance greatly! The concerts are held in the ballroom which is all one level. The stage is not really high enough for the mid to back sections to enjoy so I strongly suggest to purchase front section tickets. The next day we enjoyed our complimentay breakfast at the MICA Restaurant. Everything went very well. The food was great. We noticed that things seemed a little more under control this day. We plan to stay there again as it is not fair to rate this new hotel on this particular weekend. If I were to rate it for this weekend, a "C-" would have been issued. We will update our review upon a future stay. The property looks excellent and should be a very nice weekend getaway in the summer.

  • Liked — Very luxurious as usual for good Hiltons
  • Disliked — nothing disliked

This is a very nice high end hotel. The rooms and common areas are excellent quality and feel elaborate.

The hotel and its facilities were immaculately clean. The indorr and outdoor pools and hot tubs were beautiful. The exercise room was well equipped. We stayed at this hotel for 3 days and enjoyed the peace and quiet. In fact you would not know that there was anyone else in the hotel as you nevr hear any of the other guests.

The casino is descreet and you would not even know it was there if you didn't go looking for it. There are many choices of places to eat and a Starbucks is also included on site. We did not sample any of the resturants while we were there, but did check out the buffet and it was very extensive and reasonably priced.

I would stay here again in a flash and consider it one of the highlights of our 14 day visit to New Mexico.
