“The essence of Santa Fe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Walked into the reception area and was greeted, by name by the General Manager of the Inn and the restaurant (Vanessie's). She recalled the last time we dined at Vanessies, and remembered where we worked, what we had talked about... and it was several years ago, before Vanessie's acquired the Inn. This superb level of warmth and friendliness extends to all staff who are caring and exceptional.
The rooms at the Inn are decorated in very chic and comfortable Santa Fe style with beautiful custom fabrics, lovely tiles and in some rooms, artwork as it so happens, by a dear friend of mine. We were in a beautiful small room, Pecos to start, which is gorgeous and outfitted with desk, mini fridge, and leather comfy chair. We then moved to a suite, with large separate sitting area: sofa, easy chair. Desk and work area. Beds are big and comfortable, water is supplied for all guests: you are in the high desert and the Innkeepers provide a printed overview of altitude sickness in every room.
While each room does not have a bathtub, the showers are excellent.
Continental breakfast includes eggs and a side dish. One morning the side dish was potatoes with green chilies that added a NM touch, another AM it was eggs with the most extraordinary applewood smoked bacon Ive ever eaten.
The location is just a short walk from the Plaza, and in the in-room book, the Innkeepers suggest museums and nearby restaurants including Vanessies and others. They really do go out of their way to make sure your visit to Santa Fe and the Inn at Vanessies is all you could want.
BTW: dont forget to bring a swimsuit: there's a hot tub for guests.
I've traveled to Santa Fe close to 50 times over the years for business and personal trips, and I can say that there is now no need for me to try any other inn or hotel.

Why you come to Santa Fe starts at the Inn at Vanessie. There is no reason to stay any place else.

Room Tip: Rooms 3 and 4 are suite-like with large separate sitting areas in the old section of the Inn, Pecos...

We were just able to spend one night at the Inn (8/23/13) but we were very impressed. The Inn is small and our room was small but we don't require a large room. The decor was so lovely - custom fabrics, beautiful tile and decorative painting. I think the rooms are all different and it would be a treat to get to see them all.
My husband asked Angel L. about the closest car wash when we checked in. Our car was really dusty when we checked in, we had been on a ranch for a week. When we came back to the Inn after shopping Angel was rinsing off our car. She was so pleasant during check in as were all the other staff we came in contact with.
Wish the continental breakfast had started a bit earlier so we could have tried that as well but we had to get on the road.
The location was great and just a short walk to the plaza.
We would love to stay at the Inn again.

Having been here previously when it was the Water Street Inn, we found it suffered in comparison. The continental breakfast was generic, and the previous social hour was gone. The room had only minimal storage space, and lacked a comfortable reading chair. On a positive note, the staff was helpful and pleasant.

We have been staying at this inn for many years. It is always a pleasure to have the ability to stay and enjoy the amenities. Breakfast is delicious (a little music would go a long way, otherwise it's more of a library experience.) The location is within easy walking distance to many restaurants and the plaza. Parking is not a problem which can be a huge issue in Santa Fe. The staff treats you like family, and spent endless hours searching for lost items left behind. I would highly recommend this Inn to couples, friends, family, business trip, or just a solo getaway. You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: try to get an upstairs room to enjoy Rooms nearest the piano bar might pose a noise issue.

Our "Wisconsin alum" reunion chose to meet in Santa Fe this year. Inn at Vanessie was a perfect location and size for us. The accommodations were beautiful, immaculate, comfortable beds, breakfasts a lovely way to start a day, and dinner was delightful. The staff gave caring and efficient service to all. Thank you for everything

This was the fourth time I have stayed at The Inn at Vanessie, and, once again, I was not disappointed! The room my friend and I shared was in the older section of the Inn, and it was perfect for two unrelated people. One room with a large queen bed, one room with a single. Both beds were super comfortable, with wonderful bedding and pillows, and each room had its own air conditioning controls. The rooms...all of them I have sampled...are very well appointed, with top of the line accouterments and tasteful decor. Then, of course, there is the added bonus...and it is a big plus...of being able to walk across the parking lot right into the country's best piano bar! We went all three nights of our stay. Doug Montgomery is quite simply the best at what he does! And Bob Finnie, a newer face at Vanessie, kept us singing until closing time! The food is consistently good. All this, and a great location too!

Room Tip: The newer rooms are larger, but all of the rooms have equally good appointments and special touches...

We were in the Sioux room, located on the second floor of a two story building within the Inn's compound. The room was lovely! It appeared to have been updated recently and the decor was modern southwest style with track lighting, a comfortable bed, and lovely tile in the bathroom and shower. Being on the second floor was a very nice experience as we looked out at treetops and pretty nearby buildings from our many windows. It gave the room a sense of spaciousness, even though it really was pretty typical in size. The windows opened so we could get fresh air at night, and the air conditioning worked very well to keep the room cool during the day. The location is slightly off the beaten track and this helps keep it quiet and restful. That said, it is just 3 blocks from the railroad station with it's many shopping and dining opportunities, and also just a few blocks in the other direction from the plaza and downtown shops and businesses. All said, it was a perfectly lovely stay.

Room Tip: This is our second visit to the Inn. The first time we stayed in a room that had a small patio. Th...
