“Hotel Chimayo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

This is a beautiful historic hotel just steps away from the Plaza in Santa Fe, the location is wonderful, walking distance to art galleries, shopping and restaurants

The rooms are quite large with a living room area and a wonderful comfy bed, the 2 areas that could use some updating are the bathrooms which are tiny and the 2 televisions which should be updated with flat screens.

This is the 2'nd yr we have stayed at this hotel and will probably stay there again next year

Room Tip: rooms are on 2 levels, if you do not want to climb stairs stay on 1'st level, not top level p...

Dear Rita W.

We are glad that you enjoyed our beautiful property. Our hotel has of thee most authentic and traditional settings in Santa Fe. We are also glad to hear that enjoyed the convenience of our location. When your doing shopping and going out to eat no location is better than ours. In regards to your advice about our televisions, you will be happy to know that we are in the beginning stages of replacing them with larger flat screen TV's. We hope that you will come to visit us so you can see them.

Again, I just want to thank you for making us your Santa Fe destination and we hope to see you in the future.

Warmest regards,

Adrian J. Velarde

The staff was wonderful. The hotel was cool in layout. The food at the restaurant was beyond good. They let our dog eat at the restaurant too. Just a very comfortable place. Even tho the couch in the living room was made from cement with cushions it was very comfortable. Who'd a thought that?

marjanmacphee,

Thank you for taking the time to mention the layout of our property and the food at our restaurant. We are glad that you and your pet enjoyed yourselves. We love being a pet friendly property. it gives us the chance to see many pets and their friendly personalities. In regards to the cement seating in our guest rooms, we get lots of compliments about their style and comfort. If you are ever in the Santa Fe area please stop by and visit.

Again, thank you for sharing you experience with us.

Thankfully yours,

While moving from Manitoba to Nevada, we decided to make a vacation of it. One of our stops was a place I always wanted to see...Santa Fe, NM. The night before we were due to arrive, I searched for hotels. Being this was a bucket list spot, we splurge on the hotel. I was able to get a cheaper last minute rate via the hotel's website then any other hotel service site. We booked into an Oratorio King Suite. From the reservation confirmation, "Enchanting Southwestern styled guestroom with original weavings and hand-made crosses from Chimayo artists. The Oratorio Deluxe King Suite features a sitting area with a wood-burning fireplace, wet bar, refrigerator, and a king size bed with luxurious Frette linen and a separate living room with a door. Enjoy a separate bath and vanity area, full length mirrors and a large closet space. Each Deluxe suite is enticingly unique; seating areas include Banco or a sofa seating." Since we had our 7 year old with us, we asked for a roll away bed. Upon check-in, the front desk agent, Estephanie, was very kind and courteous. We arrived before the 4pm check in. Our room was just ready and we were able to check in 2 hours earlier. They also upgraded us to what she called a Deluxe Suite. (I don't see that term on their site.) The difference was that it had a day bed as a sofa, hence the roll away was not needed. I caught the maid as she was cleaning another room to ask for bedding for the daybed as none was left. Between my very little Spanish and gesturing she figured out what was needed. The room was lovely. The bar refrigerator didn't work, but as we were their for only a night, we declined having them switch it out. The property is small...only 56 rooms stretched out on a cozy 2 (maybe 3) floors. It is picturesque, in the heart of downtown Santa Fe and just as I pictured Santa Fe to be.

A great review for a "picture perfect stay!"

Mr. Joby N, we are thrilled that you enjoyed our southwest decor and satisfied with our guest service. Our staff was happy to see the pictures that you posted of you and your son. We thrive on being able to provide our guests with the best service and the most authentic experience in the Santa Fe area. In regards to the broken refrigerator, we have removed it and replaced with one that works. Again thank you so much for staying with us.

If your ever in the area or thinking of getting away please consider coming to stay with us again.

Sincerely,

Adrian J. Velarde

Location is fantastic - just off the Plaza and easy to get to by car, a friendly staff, remarkably quiet rooms with comfortable beds. Beyond that, the facility is old and somewhat tattered. Here is what they tell you after you make non cancellable reservations: $16/day to park, and no elevators. Lots of stairs, and a very average (or below) room. WIFI was advertised in all rooms and was nonexistent everywhere.

Room Tip: Get on the ground floor.

Hello Melanie WW,

I am glad to hear that you liked the location of our property. With so many shops, museums and restaurants in the downtown area it is very convenient to be downtown. In regards to the WIFI issue, we admit to not having the best service during your stay. We have since then investigated and identified the problem and corrected the issue. We understand how frustrating it can be when the internet is unavailable in times of need. If you do visit Santa Fe again we hope that you will consider giving us another chance to demonstrate that we care about our guests and their feedback. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your concerns, because your concerns are our concerns.

the chimayo hotel is two short blocks from the plaza and offers comfortable rooms. it also has a bar and a dining area. while the property is old, a little tattered, and lightless, it proved to be a good base of operations for all the attractions of santa fe, including canyon road. this area is a must see with over 200 galleries; so much talent in such a small area. as to the hotel, we liked it well enough to book a room for the holidays.

Room Tip: try for a room on the second level; one of these should have more light. those on the ground floor...

Dear Micheal C.

We are glad that you enjoyed your here in Santa Fe. It is true that there are many talented artists here in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico. Here at the Hotel Chimayo we have commissioned over 80 artists to assist us with our renovation. They were the people responsible for making the furniture, decor, and design of the hotel. All of these artists are mostly from the town of Chimayo and we are proud to say that these artists have helped us to create one of the most authentic hotels in Santa Fe. We are glad that you have chose to stay with us again. We are looking forward to your arrival and will ensure that you receive a second floor room like you requested.

I discovered this hotel thanks to Priceline! It's located minutes away from the Plaza and offers many excellent amenities that include a bar and restaurant. What I really enjoyed was the quiet offered by my room #222. The room was a little strange though with a staircase to a door on the floor below...providing you with exit options!? The only negative, quite minor, was the lack of a screen on the south facing window. Otherwise it was great! The front desk staff were very helpful and provided me with vegetarian dinner options. I look forward to returning to this charming hotel!

Room Tip: Try for third rooms that are located on corners or furthest to the East!

Dear Geolorenzo,

As a seasoned traveler, it pleases me that Hotel Chimayo was able to impress you and deliver a relaxing stay. Our knowledgable staff thrives on being able to recommend local cuisine and I am thrilled they found you vegetarian options. In regards to the staircase in your room, that particular room can connect with the room below in case you have a family that needs two beds. It is handy when groups are traveling together and want to go from room to room with ease. Rest assured, the door at the bottom is double locked and no one can enter your room without permission.
Please give us a call the next time you come to Santa Fe. We love having return guests!

The Hotel Chimayo is a jewel. It is quaint and in an amazing location on the
Plaza. It has a nice bar and a cute restaurant. If you dine there the prices
are average but make sure you ask for James to wait on you. He is the
best waiter ever. My husband I relaxed in the evening on the patio each room
has a little bistro table facing the courtyard. The beds are super comfortable, the room has a mini refrigerator and free wi fi that works everywhere in the room.

Room Tip: request 2nd floor
