“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2008

We stayed at the hotel plaza real for a week between Christmas and New Year's. We were very pleased with the room and the service we received. The location is great. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to visit, except skiing of course. The front desk manager was really helpful. Although I did not like the cold temps. we had a great time and had some great food. There were a couple of annoyances but you'd get that anywhere. The first is that you have to pay for parking ($13 I think) and there are not enough spots in the garage so you may have to block someone in and then leave your keys at the front desk. The ceilings are pretty thin and we could hear our upstairs neighbors, they were quite rowdy. The housekeeper did not close the door hard enough after cleaning the room so our room was left unlocked all day.....twice. Other than those things it was great. They had Aveda hair products and lotion which was a nice surprise. It is also a very quaint homey place. We would definitely stay there again if we were in Santa Fe.

I booked this hotel several months in advance. After reading some of the reveiws, I called Donald, the Front Mgr with some concerns like the trash pickup at 4:00 a.m. and the wore out carpet & drape rooms, etc. and asked if he could please put us in a room where I would not hear the trash pickup, etc.. So when I checked in on May 21, 2008, I asked for Donald and he said he received my message and that everything I requested was taken care of. We had a great room, no trash pickup noise at all and the inside of the room was nice and clean. The staff was very friendly and informative especially regarding where to go and eat in Santa Fe. You must try the Burrito Co. restaurant next to the hotel for breakfast... good breakfast burritos.. :-)
Thanks again Donald for everything, we really enjoyed our stay at the Plaza Real...

I have stayed here two years in a row and love this place. Once you step thru the courtyard you are in a little slice of eden. The rooms are very clean and nice. The staff could be a little more friendly but overall this is well worth the money. You can park your car and walk to everything downtown has to offer. I will be back for sure.

First...the location is great. Right in the plaza and easy to walk to everything. Second....the Executive Housekeeper, Francisco, is very nice and is such a professional. We also had the General Manager check us out...again...a very nice person.

The rest is all negative. The young dark haired women who checked us in....rude and could care less about her job. She was a horrible initial experience to this hotel.

Secondly....we contacted the hotel directly yet our reservations were entirely wrong (we had two rooms booked). The dates and number of nights were incorrect and again...the front desk lady....was rude, could care less about the mistake and treated us like we were bothering her for being concerned about it. We never once raised our voices, got upset or asked for a manager...we simply asked her to help us and she absolutely didn't want to be bothered.

The room....we stayed in the Presidential Suite (which Francisco politely showed to us). Initial reaction is a large spacious suite on the corner of the building. After an afternoon there.....you notice the worn furniture, frayed hanging curtains, faded worn carpeting and the beat up wood work and cabinetry. Certainly not a $350 per night suite....which is what we paid. The housekeeping is fine...it was clean....but the entire property is worn, dated and needs a total overhaul.

If you are going to Santa Fe, I would recommend looking into the Anasazi Inn...which is right next door to the Plaza Real. Locals told us it's a beautiful property with superb accommodations. Also....look into the Hotel La Fonda....it looked gorgeous and just as good a location.

This was our first trip to Santa Fe and it definitely had an effect on our over all vacation....it's not fun to drop $350 a night and be dissapointed with the room.

We live in Breckenridge Colorado and know what tourists expect when they pay resort pricing....and this property does not deliver.

  • Liked — The location on the Plaza
  • Disliked — The property is worn out and needs repairs and updating

Thank you for your response!

Again as we spoke earlier in the week, I again apologize about your situation. We are currently going through many upgrades through the property that will take place during the year. As I mentioned before, we will be in contact as we complete each one of these upgrades, which are some of the issues that you came across. As I mentioned before, I invite you back to join us as we have completed these projects so you can get a real Santa Fe experience here at the Hotel Plaza Real!

Thank you!

On the plus side - the location is great, everything we wanted was within walking distance; the room was quiet and dark; Bed was comfortable with nice linens; enjoyed the entertainment in the bar.

On the negative side - the curtains were falling off their hooks (problem was pointed out in earlier reviews and not corrected) and the sitting room was a bit shabby.

It would be nice if they offered a continental breakfast, but there are bakeries within walking distance.

Staff was not always overly helpful. When we checked in, we (two women) declined help with our luggage but they didn't mention that our "100" level room was actually up a flight of stairs.

The hotel was an excellant location for the square. The room was very comfy and quiet. Loved the atmosphere. Had free WIFI too. The italian restaurant down the street Osteria was great. Would definately stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel with my mother and sister. We had reserved a room with 2 double beds, but when we checked in they did not have any double rooms left so they gave us a room with a King and a sofa bed. They also waived the parking fee, which was nice but did not really compensate for a lumpy bed. The facility itself is lovely and the location couldn't be better, within steps of the plaza. Our room had a fireplace and refrig. My one complaint, which I voiced when I checked out, was the noise from the trash trucks every morning. Our side of the hotel faced a street with a couple of dumpsters that were emptied each morning--two mornings at 6am and one at 4am. The noise woke us up each time. Not just the sound of the truck, but loud banging that went on for 15-30 minutes. Seems like they could have done it later in the day! There is no restaurant on site but there are pleny within walking distance. If you stay ask for a room on the south side of the hotel, which should be quieter since it doesn't face a street.

Thank you for choosing us as your home away from home while you travel. It is unfortunate for us to here of your situation. We sincerely apologize about not being able to meet your room requests. Secondly, the trash pick up. We will get in contact with the city of Santa Fe to see what we may be able to do in regards to a later trash pick up, as it seems that it is a slight disturbance to our guests that our trying to get away from some peace and quiet. Again, we at the Hotel Plaza Real apologize about the 2 mishaps during your stay.
