“Couldn't get much better than this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2011

Our stay at the Plaza Real was nothing but a positive experience. I only wish we could have stayed longer than the one night we had planned in our roadtrip schedule. Along our trip, we had stayed at about 6 other hotels and motels across the southwest and this was by far the best value for the location and the quality of the rooms.
Our stay started off on the right foot from the beginning when I was given a rate over the phone of $89, which is comparable to the rate I paid at the Quality Inn in Durango the night before. When we arrived at the hotel, I realized that the Plaza Real could have gotten away with charging twice as much it was so beautiful! The stay only got better when they upgraded our room for free and for no apparent reason to the Junior Suite.
Next, the room... Wow! They're in the process of refurbishing the rooms and the hotel overall, as some other reviewers noted, and our room was one of those already finished. The carpet was new, the lighting was perfect, and the bed was FABULOUS. The only downside to the rooms was that there was no mini fridge and no hair dryer, both things that have been provided at every other hotel along our trip. We were only staying one night, so this really didn't affect the quality of our stay much, but management, if you're reading this, put these amenities in the room as there's plenty of room for them.
The location of the hotel was perfect - about 10 steps away from the main plaza and thus within walking distance to just about everything.
Overall, I felt like I was staying in a luxury, boutique hotel on our motel budget. Santa Fe is a rather expensive city, but I felt like we got such a great deal staying here. To me it seems like most of the negative reviews on trip advisor were written before the hotels remodeling. I would definitely recommend this place to readers here on TA and to anyone who asked. I hope to come back soon when remodeling is done and the restaurant is open.

What a treat! Very old buildings with up-to-date amenities. Beautiful little suite for 3 with king bed in bdrm & sofa bed in front room. Upon request a staff member built a fire in the fireplace with pinon wood. Smelled heavenly. All staff very friendly & polite. Located just off the square in old town. Easy walking to museums, shops and restaurants. Never got in the car from check-in to check-out. No need as everything was right there. It was off season & we could tell they were busy redoing some rooms. (No mess or inconvenience but as our room had so much character we were curious & peeked into some open rooms.) Anxious to go again. Best place in Santa Fe!

We had never been to Santa Fe and decided to visit for a night. We chose the Hotel Plaza Real because of the proximity to the old town square, the amenities and the fact that they accepted dogs. We loved the room. The bed was amazing. Mike and Rachel at the front desk were welcoming and had lots of suggestions for meals, drinks and sightseeing. The hotel is only a block from the square and walking distance to great restaurants, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum and lots of local sights. They were in the midst of renovating/upgrading the hotel and as a result the restaurant & bar were closed. They had furniture outside while they replaced carpets - a minor inconvenience. We loved the place and will come back!

Every time my wife and I visit Santa Fe, we stayed in a national chain hotel. This time I wanted to stay in a hotel within walking distance to the Plaza and specifically non-chain. I've walked by this property numerous times on past visits, but never gave it a second thought. My first experience with Hotel Plaza Real started with a phone call for reservations. The staff, notably Jordan, was extremely pleasant and helpful. When I pulled up, I was both worried and happy. Happy that it was only about a 1/2 block from the Plaza and worried seeing the construction work going on in the front. Once inside, however, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed! After lugging our luggage to the very far end of the property, we got to our room, which was was dated (to be fair, the whole property was being remodeled and this room had not received the remodeling) but clean and tastefully decorated. The construction crew stopped work at about 4:00pm on Friday and did not work the weekend. This made for very quiet and peaceful stay. I parked my car in their underground parking and walked to all shops and restaurants around the Plaza. So, here's the tip that will make your stay pleasant and stress-free. Hotel Plaza Real, Pasqual's for breakfast, Tia Sophias for Lunch and The Shed for Supper. All in walking distance from each other.

Room Tip: Call the property directly.

My husband and I were looking for a clean, comfortable room for a weekend getaway. We found that the Hotel Plaza Real has nothing to recommend it except the location just off of the historic plaza. The room was quiet, but shabby, very poorly lit and needed a good spring cleaning. The furniture was bunged up and the chair cushions were torn. We have stayed and enjoyed our time much more the Inn at Loretto and the St. Francis, which were both clean, comfortable and a bit more costly. Once you are paying "Santa Fe prices", however, you should look for something better than this hotel.

Dear localreviewer86, thank you for your honest review. It is with great regret from Management and Staff, that you did not enjoy your stay with us at Hotel Plaza Real. Please know we take you comments very seriously, which is why you may have notice during your stay that we are currently undergoing renovations. One of many changes that will take place is the updating of every guest room, while keeping with our distinct cultural décor.

We had a nice room in a somewhat older hotel. Our room had two private balconies and a fireplace along with the usual amenities. The room was comfortable and well maintained. Hotel staff were courteous and very helpful. There was some renovation work taking place on the lower floor - it did not affect our stay. The location is perfect for a visit to Santa Fe - walking distance to local attractions and easy access to highways.

We have stayed several places in Santa Fe, but this was one of our more relaxing stays. The rooms were very comfortable, and the little touches were like home. The staff was very accommodating, we went with friends and gathered in the lobby and the staff made a fire for us. The hotel was very clean, parking was easy, and only a block to the square. We will definately be back!!!
