“True Santa Fe Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2011

We stayed here recently and absolutely loved this place. It has the quirky charm and uniqueness that has been lost with the commercial chains. Our room was in a block decorated with wrought iron furniture, stenciling, Mexican tiles, and plants. The room was huge by modern hotel standards. The ceiling was done in wood in the Santa Fe pueblo style and the bedroom also had a small leather couch, table and chair as well as a console down one side of the room. The bathroom was huge with a deep old-fashioned tub, vintage tiles on the floor and a large dressing area outside the bathroom. There were actually three separate rooms within the room. A fridge was provided as well. The pool is in its own walled courtyard and was heated and lit at night. It was the old style; huge and 8 ft. deep. The spa was pleasant as well, not over-chorinated as are some. A delicious breakfast is served in your choice of a skylit room with plants, a beautiful dining area with a fireplace, or an outdoor vine-covered patio. The property is beautifully landscaped and dotted with shady alcoves, tables, fountains, benches, and beautiful mature trees. If you want granite, stainless and modern, this is not for you. I value this much more. It actually gave me the feeling I was in an exotic location, not the USA. The staff was very friendly and gave me great tips on where to find a gift I was looking for. It was also convenient to get to most of the tourist attractions in Santa Fe. I adored it and will most certainly be back!

Wonderful "Route 66" style motel. Beautiful, well-manicured grounds, extra friendly staff. Large rooms. Only small criticism is that the air conditioning didn't seem to keep up, but there's nothing better than sleeping with an open window. This is a great place to stay and well worth the price, especially for a Santa Fe property. We'll be back.

For us El Rey Inn was a hit. We stayed here for two nights to explore Sante Fe. This hotel is situated along a rather busy street towards the city center, that is why we didn't expect such a jewel. What a surprise, cause straight behind te reception starts a whole new world, full of tasteful decorations, flowers, elegant trees and sparkling fountains. The bungelows/motelrooms are intimit, cosy and clean. The staff is nice, the breakfast stylish and very complet. Everything was in great shape.
Our only bad luck was that the (nice looking) pool was closed (beginning of may) because of a coming inspection or something like that. Exept for this lack of using the pool our stay at the El Rey Inn was close to perfect, and that for a very reasonable price.

we reserved four rooms here for a family reunion and baby shower. if you don't need to stay on the downtown square in santa fe, this is the place to stay. the rooms include refrigerator and coffee pot and microwave; some of the rooms have private outdoor patios.
all rooms are very near one of the multiple park-like outdoor sitting areas scattered around the property. smoking is permitted in those small parks but not in the rooms. the whole ambience is very comfortable and welcoming; the owners appear to manage the place themselves and they are genuinely nice folks: they assisted us with the out-of-town planning for the reunion (we were all coming in from different states), plus let us use the breakfast area for the baby shower. i inadvertently "stole" one of their bench pillows in packing up to leave; when i called to confess and say i'd mail it back, they were very nice about it all. these folks have a property to be proud of; it is great for families and doesn't cost a huge amount.

Room Tip: tell the owners your criteria; they will match

I stayed at the El Rey Inn for the first time a few weeks ago. The room was large. The feel of the property was wonderful. Everyone was very friendly. I certainly would recommend staying here to my friends - and will be back in the summer when the flowers are all in bloom.

I come to Santa Fe at least once a year. Love the city and the arts.
I have admired the El Rey Inn as we drive by, so decided to finally book.
It was cold in Santa Fe, so I didn't get to enjoy the grounds of the hotel as I'd hoped.
Since I booked thru hotels.com, we were put into a very small room. Now, I love funky and I love a challenge more than most, but next time, I will go for a bigger room.
The breakfast experience is the best. The lady and gentleman who preside are a couple of gems. I adore them.
Front desk could use a little "Hospitality 101" training.
I look forward to giving the El Rey Inn another chance this coming summer.

the rooms feel like you are in a sardine can
very cramped
jusr barely enough room to walk around the bed
it seems that in an effort to decorate the rooms and make them feel very santa feish that they forgot to leave room the guest

the hot breakfast was nice and the service was very good
it was a little on the pricy side considering the accomadations

the allure of the motel and the route 66 style are just that an allure

this would be a great one nighter but for the price there are more
afforadable and spacious rooms for rent

and the wifi dosent really work unless you are in the lobby sitting on it
