“Perfect Romantic Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2010

Love Encantado!!!
Went to Santa Fe on recommendation of friends, and found a great deal on Encantado for the 4th of July, my anniversary. From the start we loved it. Great rooms with a terrific bathroom and patio.
The service is impeccable. Upon our arrival from Albequerque, while checking in my husband mentioned needing a latte. Upon receiving our room key, a server from the neighboring bar brought us out 2 lattes.
We chose to hike and go into town a few times through the long weekend, and were pleasantly surprised to be offered a late model Mercedes to drive around in while we were there. Again, service is impeccable.
I would definitely recommend this hotel: beautiful property, impeccable service, and great location away from center of town.

We just got married at Encantado Resort. It was absolutely perfect. The staff at Encantado are incredible, especially their catering manager Felicia. She is the consummate professional and insured that absolutely everything went well. Most of our family and friends stayed at Encantado and everyone loved it. I can't say enough good things about it. This was our third stay there and we never would have chosen to get married there if our first experience wasn't fantastic. Beautiful setting, great food, wonderful casitas, and superb staff.

Had the pleasure of spending 4 nights at this lovely place. We arrived and were told that we had been upgraded to a Summit Suite which was very nice - with both an indoor and outdoor fireplace (with loads of wood provided), extra deep soaking tub, wet bar (ice provided every afternoon) and lots of extras.

The location is a bit out of town - but dont let that stop you since the bell men will drive you into town for dinner (or anytime) and then pick you up (a great service if you enjoy a few drinks with dinner). It was kind of nice leaving the tourist 'scene' in town behind. Also - make sure to borrow one of the Mercedes convertibles and cruise some mountain roads (yeah, we were living like rock stars). A great change from driving our junky rental car.
If time allows, make sure you eat at least one night in the restaurant - the executive chef is excellent and creative - we really enjoyed the 4 course menu and specialty cocktails.

We have stayed at some very fine hotels in our travels - and I must say the service was really extraordinary - without every being snooty. Every staff member we met was helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable - From the chamber maids to the bartender.

Don't miss this place - its pretty special

this is the most amazing hotel chain. the room was huge with private patio and an adobe fireplace. the bathroom had heated floors and a more than adequate closet. the hotel offers free car service in their new fleet of mercedes and even let us have the e-class convertible for the entire day to travel to Taos! the service was amazing, everyone was so helpful and was a great addition to our trip, without them we wouldn't have visited a few of the places we think were unmissable!

We had a wonderful three days here. Everything was perfection except the little ding extra charge of $20.00 that I found on my credit card a week later. I haven't had time or inclination to call to complain but I was disappointed that they didn't email me.

My sister-in-law and I just spent 4 wonderful nights at this resort. Our casita was beautiful & large, complementary non-alcoholic beverages, cookies at night, turndown service, etc. Going during the "shoulder season" had many advantages including breakfasts each morning. Before the trip, we were contacted by the concierge who made all dinner reservations, planned for our complementary airport shuttle to & from Santa Fe Airport and reserved our nightly ride to and from our dinners in town each night. In addition, we reserved in advance a Mercedes convertable for a day - yes, also complements of Encantado! After our arrival, we received a call that the Mercedes was available for each of our full days & we reserved it for all three days! For those who enjoy visiting all the museums and the incredible gallery hopping and shopping, one can spend days right in Santa Fe. However, Santa Fe is a very small city so for us, if we did not have the Mercedes, we would have rented a car for the wonderful day trips including the balloon flight with Rainbow Ryders out of Albuquerque, and trips to Taos Pueblo, and Bandelier Nat'l Monument. In the evening, we watched the beautiful sunset from the patio with the fire pit burning. The spa treatments were excellent, the massage therapists were skilled & knowledgeable. Dining in Santa Fe is fabulous - Geronimo's our favorite. Mostly, we enjoyed conversing with the Native Americans outside the Palace of Governors and at Taos Pueblo about their crafts, their culture, homes & their kids ( students, lawyers, etc.). Without exception, we were treated graciously by all at the resort and in New Mexico. Great trip!

We were excited to stay at Encantado, having to come to Santa Fe a few days earlier than anticipated due to a botched booking in Moab by a rental house owner. They did set us up for a perfect stay; the reservations clerk was very personable and went over all options that were available, plus gave us some travel tips about what to see. On check-in we were kindly upgraded to a Summit Suite, one of the top suites in the hotel, as a generous gesture for our anniversary.

This suite is jaw-droppingly beautiful and very large - indoor and outdoor fireplaces, king bed in the huge bedroom and a luxe bathroom almost as large as the bedroom. There are nice views of the sunset over the property, and we did not experience having to look over the parking lot due to some clever landscaping and a few rustic wooden fences.

The restaurant has wonderful food and very welcome after spending several days eating fairly bad food in the Navajo reservation. Try to have breakfast included in your room rate as a generous breakfast for two can run upwards of $60.00 Room service is prompt, fresh, and hot and the burger is a must-try, with the truffle fries - local organic beef, handmade patty and house-made pretzel bun. Fabulous. The concierge service is very good, booking us Balloon Fiesta tickets and dinner reservations accurately and promptly. Staff overall are very friendly and down-to-earth.

So ... you are wondering what the "but" is? We found Encantado very luxe but just missing the mark of a 5-diamond establishment at this time. To be realistic, we were paying around $900.00 a night and we expected service and our stay to be pretty much perfect - as our experience with flawless previous stays at Four Seasons and other five star hotels for half the price.

I wanted to try the huge, luxurious soaker tub in our suite. This was made difficult as we returned one day to find housekeeping had pulled the drain straight out of the tub. We eventually managed to stuff the drain and it's various metal parts into the tub. After my bath, it would not drain properly and had to be pulled out again in it's entirety. We suspect it was broken and housekeeping had failed to notify anyone. The drain plug was broken in one of our double sinks in the bathroom and would not drain; again broken by housekeeping as it was working perfectly that morning. We were assured at dinner everything was to be fixed, but came home that evening and nothing had been done.

As another reviewer reported, it can be difficult to start a fire - the resort only has large logs split in half, with very little small pieces. You can only get a fire going by throwing in quite a few blocks of chemical fire starter and hoping for the best. When my husband asked for more split wood we were told sheepishly by one of the staff "We don't have an axe".

Room slippers are strangely sized to fit size 14 men's feet. No women's sizes. I couldn't even wear them as I would have risked falling on my face flopping around in them.

Other small things cropped up during our stay, which I won't go into. These may seem fairly trivial, but at the room rate we were paying and for it's reputation we expected better from Encantado. We spoke with Hans, who respresented the management and he was fantastic, acknowledging that there were legitimate concerns, and he would bring them up in a management meeting. We were compensated very nicely for our trouble, but it's not about the things or money - we just wanted a pampered, relaxing stay and these little things that seemed to crop up detracted from that.

Encantado is a beautiful resort and has the potential to be amazing. We would stay here again, and hopefully in the near future it can pull itself together and be the incredible property it can be.
