“Relaxing and Pampering Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

We went here for my birthday.
The arrival was great-warm greeting at the front desk and the bellman were friendly and helpful when we arrived from a 12 journey of flying from the East Coast.

Check in was quick and easy and we were in our room within 10 minutes of arriving at the resort.

Our room was 5 start rustic/deluxe with many southwestern motifs. Warm woods and a kiva fireplace really made the room feel welcoming.

The rooms are quite large and the bathrooms are a great size with a separate shower and a deep soaking tub which was splendid!

All meals in the Terra Restaurant were delicious. I would recommend the eggs Benedict with crab meat and the pancakes for breakfast. A side of sausage was gigantic and enough for 2 easily.

We had their signature burger in the lounge one night and they were also delicious-try them if you have the chance.

The spa is great and the offer a steam room and whirlpool even in the winter months. Tom was a great masseur and he does a great job relaxing you.

My only complaint about the resort was the lackluster housekeeping staff. They never replaced any of the used glasses or dishes in the room. We had to call and ask for replacement plates, flatware and glasses as they weren't replaced by housekeeping. We also has to ask for firewood that was used the night before as they never brought any replacements once we used our allotment.

Overall a fabulous stay and I would highly recommend a visit here.

Room Tip: Book a room on the second floor for the great views of the landscape. Casita #42 was in the back of...

Thank you for choosing Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado as the destination to celebrate your birthday! I am so glad that we were able to pamper and take care of you for this special occasion. In reading your detailed descriptions of our tasteful dishes, I will be sure to try them as soon as possible! What’s a vacation if you can’t enjoy all of the cuisine that is offered? Especially, if they are made by our talented Executive Chef Andrew Cooper! Although I’ve enjoyed reading your review, I am disappointed to see that your stay was not flawless. I will speak with our Director of Housekeeping personally so this issue does not occur in the future. I hope this has not tarnished your view of Rancho Encantado. Please think of us for your next special occasion or perhaps even for an escape from the East Coast!

Sincerely,

Four Seasons service with a smile. The rooms (Casitas) are spacious with your own Kiva. The private courtyards are large and have a fireplace ready to light. The heated bathroom floors are more wonderful and functional than I would have imagined and now want to remodel my home bath with heated floors. Theresa the "experience" expert was not only knowledgeable of the area but completely delightful and very interested in recommending the activities that best fit the family and our varying personalities! Mario - our bellman - was not only courteous but helpful and again was genuinely interested that their guests have an exemplary experience. It felt as if Rancho Encantado was their own baby and they sincerely wanted guests to enjoy their stay!

Your title says it all with its capitalizations! I cannot thank you enough for your enthusiasm in sharing your impressions on Trip Advisor regarding your recent visit. It’s always a pleasure to read such gracious compliments about our staff. I am so proud to see that Theresa and Mario contributed in making your visit exceptional. I will share your kind words them and the rest of the team. In regards to your comment about our heated bathroom floors, they are a must have for the winter season! But why go through the trouble of remodeling your bathroom? When you can visit us as often as you can to enjoy it! Once again, we appreciate your kind words and review – we hope to see you back soon!

Sincerely,

This was my first visit. It was six days ago. Very nice hotel, they even had a pasta-making class that we took. The room was very nice, it even had its own private yard. But, the pullout beds are very uncomfortable. Staff was helpful. Also, it is located in its own private area, in the mountains.

Room Tip: 63, 64 or 65 are nice.

Dear Lord H:

Thank you for reviewing us on Trip Advisor about your recent stay! We are delighted to hear that your first visit to our little gem in the “mountains” was enjoyable and you even got to get a cooking-class in during your vacation! It’s always fun to cook, but it’s even better when it’s hands on. I am so sorry to hear that our sofa sleeper was uncomfortable – we will look into this immediately as we like to think of our resort as your home away from home. We thank you for your compliments and feedback. Hope to have the opportunity to personally welcome back the next time your travel takes you back to Santa Fe.

Sincerely,

We stayed here right after it opened in 2008 as an Auberge resort. As loyal customers of Four Seasons, we are disappointed that few changes have been made, and in some cases, the resort has more shortcomings. The tragic design of the resort notwithstanding, (every room has a great view of the parking lot and other common buildings) this resort is somewhat lacking. To be fair, this property has many fine attributes, but it just is not up to Four Seasons standards and not worth the price.

We checked in very early and dropped off our luggage. We informed the staff at the check in desk we would be back later in the day. When we returned, the luggage had already been transferred to our room which was great. However, the official check in was rather amateurish as we were not informed about any of the resort amenities or any other information. The staff is polite but not necessarily warm, welcoming and friendly. It is a rather young and not particularly seasoned staff in general. To be fair, some of the staff was very eager to please and very accommodating, but that was the exception rather than the norm. I did ask that a birthday cake be presented to my partner the first night we ate in the restaurant, and sure enough, my request was fulfilled.

Our suite was completely unchanged from our first visit six years ago. They are very spacious and comfortable. We did have a few issues with deferred maintenance as the shower head was so calcified that the water flow was severely compromised and the heated floors in the bathroom did not work. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows seemed very flat and cheap. A fire concierge is still available to start the fire, and that it is still a nice feature.

The restaurant is still excellent. The service and food quality are probably the best features. The shuttle service to Santa Fe still operates and is very convenient. However, there is no longer a nice lounge where you are dropped off and picked up in Santa Fe. That was a nice feature when operated by Auberge. Also, all of the drinks in the suites and rooms were complimentary until the Four Seasons assumed management. The landscaping has grown in nicely and the Four Seasons did build nice paths on the property. And a partial privacy wall has been added to the patio areas so that it blocks the view to the parking lots which still dominate the grounds.

As I said in my initial review, this “resort” has the feel of an upscale apartment complex or nice corporate housing. In fact, the “corporate” Four Seasons ethos is prevalent throughout the property. The resort has little charm, warmth and character. It feels, looks and is run like a Four Seasons business hotel. This is a fine property if you are not looking for a great deal of amenities. The pool is tiny, the gym is very basic and the spa is almost invisible. We were not even asked if we had any interest in a spa treatment. There is no management presence whatsoever. Even after 3 days at an almost empty resort, none of the staff bothered to learn our names.

If you need a nice suite or room for a few days, don’t mind the steep price and expect little in the way of service or amenities, this is the place for you.

Very good for the value compare to other 5 start around the world. A very nice choice for a family vacation. Love the remote location but still close to town and good skiing. Rooms are very nice and confortable with real fire places, much nicer than the common areas. We had no issues with the fire place or the views (no views from our casita , a tasteful fence porch). Beautiful fabrics and furnishings. Terrific turn down service. Ice bucket at 4:00 pm on the bar of the room without requesting it is a WOW... A plate of fruits was missing along with fresh flowers.

Yes there is a noise issue but for a family with kids , a dog and coming from apartment living in NYC was not a big deal. You will hear steps from the above if you use the lower floor casita. It did not bother us at all. Love , love the cement floors and would prefer to hear the noise than a carpet.

Highly recommended we had a good time!

Room Tip: Get a room close to the pool.

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a road trip across New Mexico. The resort is about a 15 minute drive from downtown Santa Fe, but we couldn't have been happier with the beautiful location. It was quiet with lovely scenic views, and we really liked the private hiking trail--Camino Encantado. On our first night at the resort, we had dinner plans downtown and were very grateful for the complimentary SUV service to the restaurant and back. Our driver was super flexible with our pick-up time which was awesome! Thank you! Even though we had a car, we were able to have a couple of cocktails knowing that we wouldn't have to navigate through an unknown town at night. Another one of our nights there, we had planned on drinks at the bar followed by dinner at Terra, but the vibe at the bar (with great sunset views and a fire pit on the patio) was so relaxing that we ended up staying for dinner, which was delicious. Highly recommend the blue corn trout fish and chips! Also loved our room. The fireplaces (one indoor, one outdoor) definitely got a lot of use and the soaking tub was amazing. All of the staff members we encountered were very warm and welcoming. Likewise, the other guests all seemed chilled-out and happy! Overall, such a relaxing place, can't wait to return in the summer to use what looked like a great pool area!
