“Getting Ready For Prime Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Four Seasons has recently taken over the management of this property from Auberge. Hopefully plans to improve the property will be shortly forthcoming. I was sorely disappointed with the Vista Casita room expecting a scenic view of the New Mexico desert. Instead I overlooked both the employee and guest parking lots and a service road and maintenance building. I was also expecting the property to provide a true Southwestern feel beyond the building exteriors. Instead Auberge has decorated the interior of the guest rooms, lobby, restaurant etc. with a modern theme that I feel detracts from the historical significance and ambiance of staying at a New Mexico resort. While disappointed with certain aspects of the rooms and decor I cannot say enough good things about the staff of Encantado. Extremely personable and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that offers a unobstructed view of the surrounding area. Ground level rooms will not...

This was a definite disappointment compared to other Four Seasons resorts (we have stayed at and loved about 10 different FS properties in the past.) The service was definitely NOT up to par and that is the main reason we like to stay at Four Seasons properties. One night, no turndown service. Another morning, no newspaper service. Unlike all the other properties, no L'Occitane bath products. At onsite Terra restaurant, we sat outside for about 15 minutes after being seated at sunset. The hostess had said someone would be out to turn on lights and heat lamps. No one ever came. We moved ourselves inside to the dining room. The other party of 3 outside moved inside as well within 5 minutes of our move. Continued to wait. 35 minutes after arriving at our reserved time, we finally received our drinks. Tap was broken(?!) so we could not get Santa Fe Brewing Co. draft of choice. Our son's meal came out about 15 minutes before ours-usually waitstaff is sharp enough to ask if you'd like the kids' meals held til the adults eat (our preference). I could go on but I think you get the picture...In summary, we usually love the Four Seasons resorts but this one has some catching up to do.

We had never been to Santa Fe before and we were looking forward to a wonderful experience. We assumed that we would receive the same high quality Four Seasons service we have always received. We were very wrong. Unfortunately, despite paying $450.00 per night, we received a first floor room with another room directly above us. The noise coming from the upstairs room was unbearable. Everytime someone walked upstairs, we heard it. Either the guest(s) above us weighed over 400 lbs, or the construction quality of this property is very poor. When we mentioned this to the front desk, we were told that the hotel was full and there were no other rooms available. We were told we could move to a room where we would only have someone above us for two of our three nights, but the front desk agent couldn't guarantee that the room above that room wouldn't be rented on our third night. I couldn't believe it. No apology, no rate adjustment, no offer of any kind, nothing. We left the front desk with the impression that this was our problem and we'll just have to deal with it. The foot traffic noise above us continued for the entire time we were there. The second problem we encountered was with housekeeping. When we returned to the hotel around 6 p.m. on Sunday, we discovered our room wasn't cleaned and phoned housekeeping. Again, no apology for the oversight. We were told that turn down service will be there shortly and we can get fresh towels from the attendant at that time. This wasn't convenient for us and was very frustrating considering we left the hotel around 10:00 a.m. that day giving them plenty of time to service the room. We travel extensively and understand that problems come up from time to time. No hotel can be perfect all the time. However, how these problems are handled is what truly defines an exceptional property from an average or below average property. The Four Seasons completely mishandled our situation and left us with a very bad impression. We will never recommend this property, nor will we ever stay there again when we're in Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Don't get a first floor room if there is another room above you.

this was not my number one choice , but I can say that the rooms were clean, very attractive, and close to all the attractions, We traveled with a large group, and enjoyed the location of the hotel a lot.

Stayed 4 nights last week, and have to say the resort rates it's 5 stars.
First of all, it is such an easy drive into the center of Santa Fe. This was a concern of mine as we had several events in town in the evenings. Let me say the 10 minutes drive is worth it's weight in gold, for the serenity, beauty, and class of the place. So nice to get away from the crowds, the place is so quiet. It was mostly booked up while we were there but we hardly ever saw anyone, and never heard a peep. And if you prefer not to drive they will bring you into town in one of their Mercedes, or even loan you one, no cost.
We booked the sunset casita, an upstairs room. Spacious, very well appointed, superb bed and linens, wonderful deck, all very private. The bathroom was huge, one of the best showers and tubs of anyplace I've stayed in, the towels were super thick and soft as they should be in this level of hotel. Big desk with lots of convenience outlets for all the chargers, etc, with two chairs. And two comfortable easy chairs to look out at the views when it is too cool for the deck.
All the staff, and there were many, were very polite and quick to respond.
The restaurant, Terra, was extremely well designed and eloquent. The food was delicious and plated beautifully. It was a welcome, restful dinner after a long drive in from Sedona.
The grounds are planted with a great amount of attention to detail. The paths around the property are well laid out. There are a couple of trails around the outer edges of the property for a brisk morning stroll.
I really cannot recall any missteps mentioned by others during our stay, and will definitly choose it again when back in SantaFe.

This 4seasons is not up to speed yet. The pros: It is beautiful, the restaurant and bar are wonderful. the spa is very nice. The cons: It is out of town a bit so we rented a car. No one told us that we could have used the hotel car car every day so we were $600 out. The service is not of the quality of a usual four seasons which we stay in often. Basically you are on your own. This is NOT a super service four seasons.
You should know that there is a lot of walking to your room, if you have physical problems you should know that ahead of time.
They advertise free wifi but 1/2 way through the week they shut us off and told us to buy a package. The lighting in the room is terrible.
GPS does not work that well and you will be lucky if you get a phone signal here.
I imagine they will get their act together eventually as they ere just taken over recently. I would do your homework before you stay here.

I stayed at the Four Seasons Encantado for a long (4-night) weekend at the end of September/beginning of October and can't recommend it highly enough. The room (a 2nd floor casita) was beautiful and very spacious. The room itself was large (great bed!) with 2 comfortable chairs at the end of the bed (a nice place to read), a nice table (positioned well to watch tv), and even a fireplace (which I did not use). The had plenty of closet space (with complimentary full-size umbrellas). The bathroom was huge--with a very deep bathtub (again, I did not use), a large rainforest shower (very nice), two sinks, and the toilet is a separate little closet/room. (It looked at first like there was no door on the bathroom, but there's a sliding door built into the wall between the closet and foyer). There was plenty of light for reading. There was a great balcony with a lounger, a large table, and large comfortable chairs. Views were great. No problems with noise from outside or other rooms.

The hotel is outside of Santa Fe so a car is really necessary, but I found it a great location from which to explore New Mexico--15 minutes to Santa Fe, 1 1/2 hours to Albuquerque, 2 hours to Taos. (Warning, if you use a GPS to get there from the ALQ airport, the location ends up in the middle of nowhere--just keep on going down the road and the entrance is down the road (a ways) on the right--nicely lit up at night.)

The room service food was excellent (the Terra burger was the best I've ever had and the Frito Pie was great). Delivery was prompt (about 1/2 hour).

The only downsides: quite a walk to the various cabins/rooms from the lobby and the tv didn't have any services options (could not check out from room or check bill; could not even order movies (although there is a DVD player with free DVDs at the front desk)). Pretty minor complaints; I would definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are nice, but do require climbing a lot of stairs.
