“Best in Santa Fe, but very remote”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

We spent a weekend in Santa Fe for a couples trip without kids. Encantado offers everything you expect from Auberge, and the formula works. The restaurant was very good and staff members were courteous and professional at all times. We stayed in a suite with a separate living room and outdoor patio with fireplace. The only negative, which is significant, is the location because this resort is very remote. Normally, that would not bother me so much, however the ease of relying on the resort shuttle was oversold in many ways. I won't be back unless we rent a car. Bottom line.

Stayed for 5 nights the first week of January. Timing was perfect for us as we love avoiding crowds and apparently everyone left this part of New Mexico the morning of the 1st. At least felt that way. The resort was deserted. We stayed in one of the casitas with an adjoining room but no one above us. Room was perfect. Wood burning fireplace which we used every night. Large bathroom with big soaking tub. When we checked in Sunday night we had no hot water. Apparently a blown fuse. Someone came by in 10 minutes and took care of it. No further problems at all. Always delivered plenty of wood and firestarter. Didn't eat on site but wife used the spa one morning. Was the only one there and was treated royally.

Because the resort was so deserted, we had use of one of the Mercedes on two separate days. Drove to Bandelier National Monument and Los Alamos one day-well worth the trip, with excellent museums in Los Alamos. Another day used the car to drive to Harry's Roadside Diner. Also well worth the visit. On a day we didn't have the car, we wanted to get to Museum Hill. Took the shuttle into town and then caught the M bus which goes directly to the site. Easy to get there and back. Ate in the Museum cafe with great views and very good food.

Geronimo's was excellent for dinner on Canyon road. Hike there from town and the shuttle picked us up right outside the restaurant. Visited most of the museums in town; especially liked the O'Keefe Museum as well as the Museum of Art and the New Mexico History Museum.

Managed a great rate of $300/night at the resort, close to half the usual rate. All in all, would return again for sure. Was nice actually to be outside of town with easy access in via shuttle. Hiked the trail around the resort into the mountains one morning which was also well worth it.

Room Tip: Only heard that trying to avoid rooms with someone above you is best.

Hands Down, best resort in Santa Fe! The ambiance of being out there looking at the cliffs that were inhabited 16,000 years ago, hearing the coyotes call out in the night and have a wonderful fire going in your casita. Even though a little out of town, their experience is so wonderful that if my business takes me back to Santa Fe, it is an automatic yes to staying here. They took care of me lending me for two days a E550 convertible to take me around Santa Fe. With their Shuttle into town and their special meeting point at town, they have thought of everything. Rooms and the restaurant is exquisite and pet friendly to boot! One of the best in the west. Nothing negative with this property.

Room Tip: Casita's are the bomb!

Service, accomodations and food are excellent. The restaurant is exceptional and I'm usually a sceptic of hotel restaurants. The concierge staff was knowledgeable, accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this resort to my most discerning friends and I plan to return.

This is a really nice resort to get a way for a relaxing weekend. We really enjoyed how relaxing it was. The rooms are very nice. The on site restaurant was our best meal in santa fe by far. They have loaner vehicles and shuttles available, but they do book up early.

There are a lot of good things to like about this property--beautiful location, excellent rooms, luxurious bathrooms, and spas, and energetic service. Plus, the Mercedes vehicle program is excellent, especially the free transportation into town.

But, there are some things that could be improved upon which are generally associated with the restaurant, Terra's breakfast service. It was pretty poor the majority of mornings we visited (week before Christmas). Nearly every morning, we'd wait at least 5 minutes to be seated since there was no hostess at the stand. Then, the waitress we received nearly every morning of our stay was very absentminded and would disappear for huge stretches of time despite the fact that we were her only table. For the cost of the hotel and the restaurant, Terra's breakfast service could be much better. There seemed to be a little lack of polish with a few of the Terra employees.

In contrast, Terra's bar/lounge service at night was stellar. Food was good and service was attentive.

We made use of the spa one day and were impressed with the facility and therapists.

The female concierge at the hotel was out-of-this-world. She was so well organized, helpful, and attentive. We've stayed at excellent hotels in large cities, and those concierges have nothing on her. She's a major asset to the hotel and went out of her way to get to know us.

As for the much discussed "parking lot view" problem with the room layout, we agreed that the rooms could have been laid out in a more effective manner. But, since we were there during a slow period it wasn't a problem for us.

If you're only going to stay in Santa Fe for a few days, I would probably stay in town at the Inn of the Anasazi, a very nice Rosewood hotel off of the Plaza which we had drinks at one night and dinner at another night. But, if you plan on staying more than three days and want to enjoy the surrounding area, then Encantado is a good choice. It would be especially fabulous in the summer during the Opera House season.
