“Wonderful restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

The location is a little strange, but once you get inside the enclosure it is quite lovely eating outside under the umbrellas. We were there in nice weather and the evening was perfect. The food was delicious and the service very attentive. I think it was my favorite dinner in Friday Harbor and we were there 4 nights.

“Hidden spot, enjoyed meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014 via mobile

This place has the food scene wrapped up in Friday Harbor. Other than Coho which was better for a romantic dinner, this place has the best food and vibe. Meal was very good not fantastic but had a nice variety of options. Our service was very good as well. Live music ended a little early for a Saturday night which detracted a tad from the ambiance but this little town shuts down early... I will say that I ordered the Indian inspired entree as an app to share and was not impressed with it. Way to mild to call it Indian.

“Great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

We had a great meal here. Service was friendly and helpful. Our waitress cheerfully helped us navigate non-diary options on the menu, suggesting variations as necessary. Fun cocktail list. Super happy with our meals. Also loved that our waitress thoughtfully loaned us a "Where's Waldo" book to keep our 4.5 year old son entertained, something I wouldn't have expected from such a nice restaurant. Highly recommend.

“Wonderful flavors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

This hard-to-find restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a warehouse parking lot and you''d never know it was there without a review like this or a tip from a local. While there is no view, the grounds are pleasant with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating amongst a garden-type setting. Reservations are recommended as the seating is limited and the restaurant popular - at least on the Wednesday night our family of four was there. We all ordered the soup prior to our dinner - a sweet corn soup which was a delicious mix of fresh sweet corn, coconut milk and various seasonings in a light tomato cream base. It came promptly when ordered and was piping hot. Our family of four all love scallops and that's what everyone got, to our servers amusement. Scallops are a dish many restaurants scrimp on due to their high cost, which is frustrating, but not this restaurant. Our plates came loaded with 5 or 6 medium sized scallops, lightly and perfectly seared, with a well seasoned lightly gingered beurre blanc sauce. They were accompanied by fried rice cakes and mix of various fresh vegetables. The cakes were the perfect accompaniment to the scallops. It was a delicious repast and one of the better meals we have ever had. While not hungry are such a feast, we had heard the coconut cream pie was divine and it did not disappoint. Not overly sweet, with a crispy coconut crust, topped with slivers of dark chocolate, more crispy coconut and whipped cream - it was heavenly. Overall the evening was a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant is, if seated inside, on the tight side and the volume level gets loud, but not overly so. The prices are on the high end, but given that everything on SJ island runs high, for the quality of the food you get, it is worth it.

“One of the best restaurants!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Living up to its name, the Backdoor Kitchen is indeed at the back of the street. It's a gem! I had their soup of the day, ahi tuna and vegetarian platter. All were divine! The staff was awesome. We were the last to leave the restaurant but the staff remained pretty nice about it. Would totally recommend this to everyone. Make sure to reserve a table though, especially on weekends.
