“Amazing view and Amenities!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

The Friday Harbor Suite spoiled us with a view of the harbor and the smell below of baking granola. We rented mopeds and toured the lavender gardens, and whale watching point. The next morning we took a boat from Roche Harbor and were lucky enough to witness two orca pods with a naturalist on-board who patiently answered all questions and explained behaviors of the killer whales. Topped off the day with a delicious dinner downtown and a stroll back to our suite where we lounged in our private hot tub on the back deck and slept like babies in our cal-king bed after watching TV on the big-screen and enjoying the ambiance of our fireplace. Our breakfast was delivered the next morning and we marveled that the staff cooks and serves up to 60 guests daily with all fresh and delicious foods. Teresa and Erin, we will see you both again for another island getaway. Mike & Kim M

We based our class reunion at Tucker House Inn and Harrison Suites, and it was a wonderful setting. I must compliment Erin especially for making sure that breakfast was just right. We were originally slated to have breakfast delivered to our room at 9:30, which was too late for us. Besides, we wanted to dine with our friends. Erin solved it all!

The homemade granola is delicious with lots of nuts, which a friend and I fought over every morning. We had a mixed group of vegetarians, gluten free and omnivores, and Erin and the kitchen staff made sure that we were all accommodated.

And, who ever heard of dessert for breakfast?! The slivers of pie were just perfect, letting us have a sampling, but not over-stuffing us, especially after the main course.

Fresh homemade cookies in the room in the afternoon was a special touch.

Great place to spend some lovely time on Friday Harbor. Kudos to all the staff especially Erin and Teresa. Harly the resident kitty has quite the personality! Cookies are yummy as well as the breakfasts. For those who are Gluten Free no worries!

We will certainly return.

Great location, right in the thick of things in Friday Harbor. Made catching the ferry back (with a car) super easy, and I was happy to have the car on the island to explore. Our family of 5 stayed for 3 nights in the downstairs suite called Victoria's Flower Garden. It was spacious, with two good sized bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living space with a pull-out sofa, and a kitchen with a sun-room/eating space. Plenty of room for the family to not drive each other crazy. Check-in was easy (we arrived during their normal window), fresh cookies delivered daily while we were out, breakfasts delivered to our suite daily were delicious and had plenty of food. I liked being able to cook dinners there, and we made use of the kitchen. It was well stocked with essential plates, silverware, pots, pans & cooking utensils. There was loose-leaf tea with appropriate pouches; they even had fresh milk and orange juice in the fridge, and a Brita pitcher for filtered water.
We were on an extended road trip, so one of the things I appreciated most was the ability to do laundry. Guests all have access to the laundry machines and the Inn provides detergent and dryer sheets. In our suite, the laundry room was basically attached, through one locked door. Super convenient.
If you're visiting San Juan Island, whales are best seen on the west side (a 10 - 15 min drive), or by kayak or whale watching boats. They've got a network in place so everyone out whale watching knows where the whales are. We saw Orca the very first day there from one of the parking areas on the west side, and then again on a super 1/2 day kayak trip with Discovery Sea Kayaks. Awesome place to visit for whale watching.

Room Tip: We had 2 adults and 3 teens in this suite and had plenty of room for everyone to have their own spac...

This place was decent, but I felt it could have been better for the price. I called ahead about a week or so ahead to see if I could change one of the dates and the woman on the phone was a bit rude. Also, bear in mind that you will be accessing the island by a ferry that runs on a schedule. So if you miss the last ferry due to unforeseen circumstances, then you have paid for a day for nothing since they do not have free cancellation. Not that this is so very unusual, but you'd kind of expect a bit more flexibility considering the relative difficulty getting to the hotel (the ferry terminal is 2 hours from the Seattle Tacoma airport). The room was cute and clean, LOVED the jacuzzi bathtub, and the free rental loaner bikes. However, breakfast was a tad like an uncomfortable thanksgiving dinner with in-laws since you're seated at a table (very much like your grandmother's dining room table) with strangers with whom it would be awkward not to make small talk with. I'm not much of a morning person, so it was a little uncomfortable. Breakfast leaves absolutely no choice for options if you don't happen to like what's being served. That sounds picky, but my husband hates eggs and a quiche was literally the only thing served, besides yogurt and granola. Also, there's more noise from traffic than you'd expect, since the object of our trip was to having a peaceful, scenic getaway. There's some kind of truck loading zone or something directly across from the hotel and it was a bit noisy. Overall, I'd say that while the place is cute, you can find better options for the price.

Mary,

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to write about your stay. Summer is a busy time in the San Juans and accommodations are at a premium. Unfortunately, there is very little excess inventory for last minute changes.

Our concierge works with all of our guests to offer transportation options to and from San Juan Island. In addition to the Washington State ferry which is a 2 hour drive from the Seattle Airport, there is a daily foot passenger ferry from downtown Seattle and multiple flights via Kenmore Air. We make these transportation bookings on behalf of our guests to ease the logistics of getting here. In 10 years, two couples missed the ferry – one read the ferry schedule incorrectly and the other had multiple delays with their inbound flight.

The Tucker House offers a variety of accommodations – guest rooms, suites and cottages. We offer breakfast room service for guests staying in our suites and cottages. It sounds like you would have been more comfortable with that lodging option. Next time, please request a suite or cottage so you can enjoy your coffee and breakfast in your bathrobe in the comfort of your cottage.

We wish we knew of your husband’s preferences for breakfast. We ask all of our guests when making their reservation. This way, we will accommodate all of our guests with a satiating start to their day. If you forgot to tell us, we wish you would have let our breakfast team know that morning. Our Chef is quite creative and could have whipped up something up more to his liking.

The Tucker House is tucked in a residential neighborhood steps from the historic downtown and the ferry landing, a convenient base for island exploration. Traffic on the island is quiet minimal compared to the mainland. There isn’t even a traffic light in the entire county which encompasses 172 islands that are part of the San Juan Island archipelago! So unfortunately, I don’t know of the loading zone you are referring to.

We do hope to have the pleasure of hosting you another time when your travels bring you back to the Islands and our Inns’ always open door.

With kind regards,

am

Stayed for two nights with our young son and Lizzie's Cottage was perfect for us. Nice welcome at check-in with cookie and breakfast deliveries thereafter but otherwise very private and cozy. Beautiful grounds/outdoor seating areas with wonderful location within easy walking distance of the entire harbor area. Loved the snacks in the room and fridge stocked with milk and oj; especially appreciated the recycling, refillable bath containers, etc. To offer a totally honest review, main negatives were: 1) Smelly garbage disposal even after running it. We assumed chronic issue due to air freshener on edge of sink and two air purifiers right there so we just kept the sink plug in place to block the odor. Also 2) Informed them I was vegetarian ahead of my stay, however my breakfasts were not vegetarian. Didn't mention it first day because I thought it might be a simple oversight and there was other food. When I got more meat the second day I realized I should have said something but we were checking out so I let it go. Certainly not going to take a star off for this as I take responsibility for not reconfirming dietary preference. Anyway, I will say that I thought it was sweet that they offered a simpler variation of the breakfasts for our son and the granola and fruit was good. Loved it anyway and wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

Room Tip: Lizzie's Cottage very private with breakfasts delivered.

Jill,

Thank you for staying with us. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. I do apologize about your breakfast. It was clearly an oversight as I do see you down for a vegetarian breakfast. Unfortunately, it didn't make it to the kitchen team. Next time please let us know immediately so we can make it right. Breakfast is quite a lovely start to your day and should not be missed.

We keep air fresheners in kitchens and baths in all our units for the convenience of our guests. We will certainly look into what is causing the odor you describe.

We appreciate your honest feedback as it allows us to continually improve our service. We look forward to your return visit.

Fondly,

Anna Maria

What a great B&B! We only stayed one night but it was a very pleasant experience. We arrived around noon, but check-in isn't until 4pm. You can leave your bags and they deliver them to your room when it is available. The innkeeper showed us to our room - Dove in the Window, explained how everything worked, breakfast times, etc. and then we were on our own. There is coffee, water and popcorn available in the main house. The house and our room were very well appointed, clean, and well kept. Breakfast in the morning was very good, and the serving team are very engaging and helpful. We had forgotten how fun it was to sit and eat breakfast with other travelers and learn where they are from. We had 4 other couples from all over the country. The only minor complaint was that our room as at the end of the property and overlooked the local park and a street. With the window open, there was some noise from kids playing basketball in the park, and early morning trucks. Overall, not a major issue. We would highly recommend the Tucker House.

Room Tip: Dove in the Window has some external street noise with the window open, but was a really great room...
