“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

My daughter and I spent three wonderful nights here August 8 - 11. We loved the inn, the hospitality, and the animals. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious, and the property lends itself to basking in the sun. I enjoyed the hammock on several days. Shaun was great about making dinner suggestions and reservations for us and helping us plan day hikes, whale watching and kayaking tours. Her recommendations were spot on. I agree a car is necessary but you need that anyway if you want to explore the island fully. We will be back. A wonderful place to stay.

We were really pleased with our stay at the Trumpeter Inn. Our Bay Laurel room was bright and airy and the private balcony made it really special. The Inn is located a least a mile off the road and is surrounded by beautiful farm land; it is a short drive to Friday Harbor. Shaun and her staff made our stay exceptional. We felt very welcomed and very comfortable. The kitchen is accessible to all her guests and is well stocked with homemade cookies, treats, juice and water.

There are chairs and benches around the property to sit and enjoy the outdoors. The miniature goats and alpacas in the field added to the fun. My husband was intrigued by Shaun's bird feeders! You will be fortunate to stay here.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful decorated. We especially liked the Bay Laurel room because it is large...

The inn is about 1.5 miles from the center of Friday Harbor and as we had a car that was not an issue. We liked the quiet, pastoral surroundings with views of the Olympic mountains across the adjacent fields. The rooms and public spaces are spotlessly clean. Everything appears new and fresh and Shaun and her staff were welcoming and helpful. The décor is simple and attractive without the kitsch often found at B&B's.The beds were very comfortable. The breakfasts were ample, creative and delicious as were the cookies baked fresh daily. Our only criticism/suggestion is one which we have found applies to B&B's in general. It appears that a breakfast that is rich in sugar, fats and calories is almost a competitive standard. This seems at odds with the trend to healthier eating habits. While simpler options may be available on request this choice is often not made visible and one is reluctant to ask for "special treatment". We really enjoyed our stay and would return on another visit to San Juan Island. It is our impression that The Inn will only be open in July and August in the future.

Room Tip: Our room, Rosemary, on the front of the house and the one above it had their own porch. On a future...

If you like a quiet and a scenic location combined by top notch service, great food and helpful staff then this is the place to stay. Minutes from Friday Harbor, yet out in the country. Family run business and it is hands on management. Will be anxios to get Shaun's cookie recipe cookbook. Guareenteed you will LOVE IT.

Room Tip: First or second floor with a balcony deck that overlooks the property.

Magnificent location, but out of town. excellent hospitality including pickup from the ferry and dropping us off in town. Excellent breakfast. Amazing hot tub! You need to have a car or if your willing to bike the hills of San Juan Island..

My wife and I loved our stay at the inn. It felt like we were visiting family. The rooms are all excellent, we got to see them all. We had the Yarrow room the smallest room, but it was enough space for my wife and I. The cookies were great and we were given a small bag to take some for the road. It was like we were family staying in the guest room. The breakfast was awesome, but limited in choice it was like a fine dining resterant where the chef knows best; Shaun and staff did.

Stayed here for 1 night for our anniversary. The house is very nice and well kept. The rooms were extremely comfortable and cozy. The trip was somewhat an unexpected expense as we just came back from Mexico so we opted for the cheapest room available. The room was still very nice and it was all the space we needed as we were only there for one night. We did peek into the larger rooms with the private balcony and will definitely book those rooms for next time.

The cookies upon arrival were excellent and I appreciated the free little extras Shaun provided. The chocolate dipped strawberries in our room was a very nice touch. The complimentary drinks in the mini fridge was well received by my partner.

Breakfast was tasty. The only negative thing I can say is that we would have preferred to have breakfast at a separate table and not have to dine with the other guests in a common table. This is not really a complaint, however, as there are many people who would enjoy dining with the other guests and get to meet new people. My partner is more of a private person and would have preferred to have our own table. I didn't mind either way. Other than that small bit, I would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone.
