“Wonderful in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Trumpeter Inn (Chamomile room) during a 5 day trip to the San Juan Islands. Shaun really goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable and welcome - including little touches like cookies, snacks, coffee and tea that are always available in the kitchen. The Trumpeter Inn felt the most like a "home away from home" compared with all of the other B&B's at which we stayed. Bed was wonderfully comfortable, bathroom was clean with often-desired upgrades like granite counter and rainshower head in the spacious shower. Joey and Jenny are a great welcoming committee and are ready to share some puppy love with you if you are missing your 4 legged friends while on vacation. The goats and alpacas were also really fun to visit. This was one of 3 different B&B's that we experienced on our trip and it was by far our favorite. We cannot wait to go back if/when we are in the area again.

Beautiful and very clean. Shaun is commended for her dedication to making your stay a treat. Breakfasts excel. Added attraction of pygmy goats and alpaca is fun. Hope to return. Bedding Was the best ever encountered

Hello Shaun! We completed our flying trip successfully and now we are all back to our daily life in each countries.
I would have to say that the trumper inn is the best B&B I have ever stayed including numbers of UK ones.
On our arrival, Shaun gave us a lift from the airport, where we landed in a small airplane, also when we bumped into her on our way back from the town centre after dinner. The inn is located in a walkable distance from the town but still nice to be offered a lift.
Since it was my first visit to the USA, I can't really compare to other countryside scenery but the setting of the inn is exactly what I was picturing in mind as a pretty farm land with American flag etc.
I was also particularly looking forward to seeing the animals. 2 handsome dogs, 5 friendly dwarf goats and 5 super cute alpacas! Shaun kindly let us feed them! That was an awesome experience!
As for the interior, they are all tastefully decorated. We stayed in Savory and Bay Laurel one night each and I was very much impressed with the quality of beddings and all the amenity goods at the bathroom. The lounge is also very comfy and selection of DVDs are available so no time to get bored.
Breakfast is served at 9am, which is very nice timing for non-early bird like us. I liked the style that we don't know what we would get served until the last moment and the food is very original, tasty and looks very pretty, which is very important for girls. I think Shaun should publish a cooking book! We had a lovely chat with other guests at the breakfast table. Shaun bakes different types of cookies every day, and they are available at the kitchen for 24 hours! I really enjoyed rasberry with white choco chip cookies.
I did look into every single accomodation in the entire san juan islands on internet and after a few days of intensive research, I chose Trumper Inn, which was a super right decision. I am confident to tell anyone that Trumper Inn is the best, most fashionable, most competetively priced and most dreamy inn in the islands!

Thank you Shaun for such a fabulous stay on August 26, 2012! We had one night to get away (without our beautiful daughters) on our Harley. You, your fantastic B&B and Bay Laurel room, with a gorgeous view of the grounds and surrounding landscape over delivered.

You thought of everything, right down to plastic ware to use by the hot tub and robes and slippers in our room (which were fabulous in the morning while we sipped our fresh brewed coffee just after 6:30am from our private upstairs deck)!

The award-winning cookies and treats were such a welcome surprise when we finally rolled in after getting "lost" on our way. The complimentary drinks and snacks were perfect for the late night munchies as we watched a DVD, in our room, on the portable player you provided. Finally, your banana pecan waffles, bacon and fruit parfait were such a heavenly way to begin our day (the day we saw WHALES)! And I don't even like bananas! :)

Your alpacas were sweet and your charming canine companions Joey and...oh, shoot, I've forgotten her name...well, they were adorable and such fun to romp with in the early morning mist before breakfast.

We could not give a higher recommendation. You helped create a truly magical weekend for my husband and I.

Thank you, The Kennedys

Room Tip: The Bay Laurel is worth the extra cost to be upstairs and with a private deck. Very quiet as well.

We stayed 3 nights in the Sage room upstairs. It was a decent size with two big windows overlooking the meadows. The bathroom had a great tiled shower, and the bed was extremely comfortable. If you want your room cleaned and towels changed, you just need to check off the items on a sheet of paper which is left in your room. The whole house was immaculate. As others have mentioned, Shaun is a wonderful host who was very helpful with island suggestions, made excellent breakfasts, provided delicious cookies each day, and made us feel very welcome. Wi-Fi througout the house, DVDs, TV, computer & printer available in the common room downstairs. The house was nicely decorated and, as another poster mentioned, was not cluttered with knickknacks. We had the room next to the kitchen but there was no noise in the morning before breakfast. Breakfast is served at 9:00, but coffee is available at 6:30. If you can't make it for breakfast, Shaun will pack you a breakfast to go. She makes everything look effortless, but you can tell a lot of work goes into making this Inn top notch. I honestly cannot think of a negative thing to say about it.

The Trumpeter Inn had an opening that just fit our last minute plans to visit Friday Harbor. We got to stay only one night but it was worth it - and we'll go back. Our room was modest but very comfortable and furnished just right: reading lights next to both sides of the comfortable bed, completely modern private bath, robe and towels for the hot tub, and so on. And yet to my taste as an architect, the place was not drowning in out-of-the-catalog Victorian tchotkes. It was a pleasant Northwest experience - even including the alpacas. The Inn is a couple of miles from town, a little farther than we wanted to walk; but our hostess graciously shuttled us to the art opening we were attending. A quiet place in the country not far from town - great combination.

Room Tip: This is a popular inn. If you want a larger room, book early

If the ever present smell of septic is not a bother then the location is lovely. No water view but not missed. No flex with 9am breakfast time and if not there promptly it is warmed over. Better be neat room not straightened unless requested.Price high but this Friday Harbor

Thank you for taking time to write a review of the Trumpeter Inn. In regards to having no flexibility with our 9 a.m. breakfast service. I take great pride in the quality of ingredients, presentation and flavors of our breakfast meals. I chose to do a plated service versus a buffet or continental for those reasons. I also pride myself on being ready promptly at 9 because our guests have schedules as well. Whether it be trying to catch a ferry or kayaking or whale watch excursions or just getting out to explore our beautiful island. Your choice was to go for a walk before breakfast. With regards to "better be neat". As you stated in your review, all we ask is that you let us know how we can best take care of you. The majority of our guests prefer their privacy and we respect that. We also know that this is your vacation and it's nice to have someone clean up after you, which we are very happy to do. As far as price goes, this is a destination resort area. Our rates are very competitive. You may want to come back in the shoulder season when our rates drop and the weather is still beautiful most of the time.
Last but not least, the septic smell. I am addressing that with the septic designer today. This will definitely be fixed. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
