“Very nice, but could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

I agree that I would give this 3.5 stars if possible. There were many nice aspects, but also annoyances. The exterior of the hotel buildings are quite ugly, but the interiors had nice modern furnishings. For 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids), the room felt quite small. They did do a nice job of doing a lot with the little space, including high table with bar stools.
What doesn't work at all is the bathroom and close storage area, plus a kitchenette- very crowded. The most annoying was the lack of towel racks. There was one towel ring 2 feet from the ground next to the sink, and one rack over the toilet. No hooks behind the door or any other racks.
Our room (101) arguably had the worst view of the motel, with a concrete ramp and large propane tank.
The grounds are well maintained with pretty landscaping. The pool and sauna were quite lovely. The outdoor coffee bar was in a comfortable, relaxing area, though the service of the coffee bar was slow and disorganized.
Overall, it was a very nice stay. I would give it a higher rating if it was about $50 less (we paid ~ $260 including taxes and extra charges), but for the price would expect a little nicer room/amenities.

I would give a 3.5 if I could because of the price. When I pay $230+ a night, I have certain expectations for a room. The small set up of the room wasn’t what I had expected. The hanging bar for clothes was in the kitchen area, there wasn’t a closet with one, and the old TV reminded of the TV I had in a college. That being said, the pool area was very nice, you can walk to anything in downtown Friday Harbor from the hotel, and the room was clean and well kept.

It was great. We walked off the boat at the marina, walked through town for something between 5 - 10 mins and we were at the front desk. The view wasn't anything fancy (our room looked out into a field and the postal service), but we had a really nice deck, a great room, and close to everything down town. The bed was very hard! But there was a soft blanket in the closet and once I put that on the bed it was great. My partner liked the hardness of the bed, but this is one of the things we differ on.

The staff were fantastic! They were all upbeat, friendly, and informative. They also have bikes that you can use to ride around town/the island. We took the bikes out of town on a little loop and turned back quickly as there were no bike lanes and we didn't have helmets and it was starting to feel a bit unsafe. However it's perfect for a quick fun little tour and getting around town (granted walking around town is easy enough to do as well).

Normally I have allergic reactions the minute I step inside a hotel room due to the cleaning products used. Here I had no problems and it was one of the best maintained and cleanest rooms I've stayed in.

One of the things we didn't take advantage of and I hope to on the next visit was the spa. They had what sounded like some really great massages and I can't wait to go back and try them. Too many other things dragged us away from the hotel on this trip. This also was also the case with the pool. The pool looked great, they had a good sized pool, a jacuzzi, and sauna.

They do have a little cafe at the hotel as well. The coffee is pretty good, but the breakfast items are all frozen/cold. There is however a little refrigerator and microwave in the rooms so we just got stuff for breakfast and lunch and made it ourselves.

It was a wonderful quick little vacation and I hope that this was the first of many!

Room Tip: The rooms on the floor level had larger decks than those on the top floor.

Green Features: It seemed that they are serious about this but they don't advertise it at all. For instance, instead of little bottles of shampoo and soap, they had dispensers in the shower. Definitely saves on waste.

We recently stayed at the Earthbox for three nights and I am so glad that I chose it as the place to stay. First of all, the weather forecast for the time we were going to be there was unfortunately heavy rain most of the time. I was so unhappy about this, but said to myself "Well, at least we will have an indoor pool to use". I have two girls ages 10 and 13. The pool is high on their list of things to do when we go on vacation. The weather turned out to be better than expected. There was rain, but it was not all day. Usually, it was just in the morning. When the sun came out, the bikes turned out to be very useful. We went on a couple of family bike rides which were nice. I also appreciated the spaciousness of the room. We were in a "sun" room on the second floor. It had a cathedral ceiling and a nice relaxed design. This place suited us very nicely. I doubt I would have been happier anywhere else.

Room Tip: Second floor "sun" room so you get the cathedral ceiling and quiet.

The remodel of an old motel was well done, the people were great, in fact everything was very nice, except for the size of the room. At $224 (with taxes and dog) it was overpriced. Since we had a dog we were limited as to where we could find a place in this resort town. They have loaner bicycles, which we didn't try. I feel that overall it is a good place if you don't need much space and can afford to spend some $.

We booked at the last minute, so we weren't surprised we had to change rooms midway thru our stay.... but ultimately it was the best thing that could happen.
Night one we were in the sky place room. It was nice enough; it was one of the few rooms available in town with air conditioning on one of Washington's rare 85-degree days. The issue was the noise. It sounded like the guests in the room next door were moving furniture half the night. We should have known it was coming when, alongside the soap and shower cap they provide ear plugs.
The second night was in the earth room, no ac just a box fan. Still, the room was quieter even though it was close to the pool .
Overall we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is just a block from the downtown shopping/dining area and the staff - especially Tory - was extremely helpful. He worked until nearly 10pm to book a ziplining tour for the next day which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The pool was also a welcome - and rare - sight. Earthbox has one of the only pools in Friday Harbor.

Room Tip: The earth rooms are single level rooms and, while they do not have a/c - they also don't have pe...

Friendly, helpful front desk recommended wonderful places to eat & other very helpful tips. When i noticed a billing error, it was fixed without hesitation. (Words cannot express how wonderful Tory is) Room was a bit smaller than normal but very clean. Hot water for shower with no warm up wait time, strong hair dryers, beautiful landscaping. We will certainly come back.
