“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

We rented two suites and one penthouse for our wedding last month and had a wonderful experience. All of the rooms were very nice. One suite had a great view, the other had a private patio. The penthouse was exceptional and having a bath and a half came in handy as we got ready for the wedding. We also gathered there for breakfast and at the end of the day.

The staff was great. They went above and beyond to acquaint us with the rooms and their features.

We also enjoyed the location and being able to walk to restaurants and stores.

Highly recommend the paid parking.

We hope to return in the future.

Room Tip: Penthouse 7 is very large and has an extra half bath.

Stayed the night of July 10, 2014 in penthouse 6. Super place with all the most modern desires.
One caution: be careful of the steep steps to the rooftop deck, so not advised to share a bottle of wine up there. Great staff.

Hello meese2000,

We appreciate your stay and the time you’ve taken to share your experience with us! Good call on the steps to the rooftop decks – they’re more like ship ladders just right for morning coffee and sunrises!

We recently got married at the Island Inn. We had a supreme weekend there with 32 of our closest friends and family renting all but two of the rooms at the INN. We used the roof top decks on three of the Penthouses for the actual ceremony and the Viewshare space for the meals. We were treated to superb views including a double rainbow over the harbor. More important was the truly excellent service and support we got from the staff at the INN. They consistently went above and beyond helping to ensure every detail was looked after.

Over the past year we stayed at the INN a few different times to prepare for the big event. Each time we were treated to this same level of superb service even though we only rented a single room. We typically would bring our dog and stay in Penthouse 4. We loved the kitchens and their high quality components and utensils, the steam shower, and, of course, the central location.

Would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a get away convenient small town or anyone seeking an amazing place to get married.

Room Tip: Penthouses are well worth the price!

Four of us shared a wonderful penthouse. Great view, well appointed and a private roof top terrace. Most impressive was the staff. Every person we encountered was more than helpful and friendly. Only downside is the toms involve lots of steps, but the view is worth every one of them. If you want personal service and great surroundings, that is the place.

We spent 3 nights in Penthouse 5 and it was spectacular! The views were great and it felt very private and relaxing, despite the fact that you are right in the middle of town. It would have been nice to have a dresser to put our clothes in and some measuring cups in the kitchen would be good, but, otherwise it was great.

A few tips - avoid Roche Harbor Road when cycling (bad road surface and lots of cars), go to San Juan mid-week when it is quieter and less busy (but be prepared that many businesses are closed Monday and Tuesday), and go to the seafood market at the marina and buy provisions for dinner - cook in and avoid the restaurants.

The staff was always available and accommodating. The Euro rooms did not have views, but had access to a view room with tables, sofas, chairs and a fireplace. Also, outside the Euro View Room there is a patio where my sister and I drank wine, had snacks and watched the boat traffic and people down at the harbor. Very close to shopping and restaurants. The room was very modern and clean; there was coffee, juice, milk, fruit and granola. Had to pay for parking, but it was well worth it! Negatives: there were people using the stairs through the middle of hotel complex to pass through to the street/restaurants/hotel above us - fortunately not a lot - and there was not much room around the bathroom sink for hair care products and equipment or makeup - a shelf for that would have been good.

Room Tip: Penthouse rooms have a view; "Sweets" share a common hall and have a freezer for access to...

Green Features: They are VERY enviro friendly, right down to soaps and shampoos.

We stayed in one of the three Euro rooms for 3 nights. The architecture and design of the hotel is quite unique and very interesting, but wasn't exactly what we expected. The room itself is pretty small - a bed, a chair, and some benches/tables to put your luggage on, with very little unused floor space. No drawers to store anything in and no closet - just an open coat rack. The bathroom is equally unusual. It's the full width of the room with frosted glass doors/walls. The left half is a huge open shower and the right half the sink and commode. It's also raised up about 6-8", so definitely be careful in the middle of the night.

The Euro rooms share a HUGE, very nice common room - fireplace, couch, tables, etc., with a great view of the harbor, but it felt somewhat wasted - we would have preferred to have had more space in our bedroom.

As other reviews have said, be prepared for the stairs. The Euro rooms are only one flight up, but the suites/penthouses can be up several flights (and there's no elevator).

They charge extra for inside parking which I'd definitely recommend. Particularly during the high season, I'd doubt that you could readily find off-site parking.

Hello PhillyTraveler49,

Thanks so much for visiting and taking a spin with us off the coast of ordinary!

We appreciate your visit and the time you’ve taken to share your room review. We’re saddened to hear that your room wasn’t what you had expected. We’re not quite sure where the disconnect might have been during the booking process as your description of the Euro you stayed in matches ours nicely!

On our homepage, we describe the Euros as “Small sleeping rooms attached to a living room.” We also have a detail webpage for every accommodation we’ve got complete with a full photo-gallery and 360-tours of each room. We describe Euro 2 as “240 ft² Coffee Flavored Coffee. Queen room with streamlined design and compact sensibility for guests 16 and older. Flat screen TV, private Euro washroom and a super-big shower.” We also noted that you booked online, which is great as our booking engine lets you book a specific room, not just a generic room type.

We’d sure love to welcome you back if you’d like to try a different room type. Feel free to call or write so we can help guide you to the right spot – our Sweets are “As close to 'normal' hotel rooms as we'll get” and our Penthouses are “Big and nicely appointed with kitchens and plenty of elbow room.”

All the best,

The Island Inn ‘Interesting’ Ambassadors
