“Great 1st kayaking experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Took my 1st kayaking adventure with Outdoor Odysseys, July 23, 2013. Pre planning questions were promptly answered by owner Tom & business mgr Peter. Our guide that day on the Eagles & Orcas trip was Ellie and she was terrific. Ellie was observant, conscientious and concerned about our safety as well as enjoyment. She was adept at reading the water and led us on a conservative route to & from Deadman's Bay, pointing out an eagle, seal pups, sea stars, kelp beds, and the currents. Just as I was questioning why another company's kayakers were out further in the churning water, one of their kayaks flipped over. Quick thinking Ellie went into rescue mode, directing our group to gather together & wait in the safety of the kelp beds, while she (and I as we shared the kayak) set out to help. Ellie gave direction to the other group's kayakers to head in to Small Pox Bay while their guide worked to right the over turned kayak. I'm so impressed by Ellie and Outdoor Odyssey. lunch was a delicious & nutritious humus, cheese, veggie stuffed pita & fruit for me, but I noticed that consideration was made for a gluten free guest. Be sure to bring your own bottled water as directed in the information provided by the company.

“Loved our Guide, Nikken!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Our guide, Nikken, made the 4-day trip memorable for so many reasons: 1. Her recommendations to do a bio-luminescence paddle after 10 pm in Reid Harbor- it was magical. 2. Her tip to watch the sunset from Turn Point and sending wine and chocolates to compliment the vista while she stayed behind preparing a peach crisp for a midnight snack upon our return 3.her pointing out the umbilical cord on the baby harbor seal 4. her sleeping only five hours each night to get up in time to have coffee and breakfast ready for us, 5. her focus on our group and our needs/expectations and willingness to deviate from the published program to allow us to help determine each day's planned events 6. her skill with the dutch over - the delicious meals and the wonderful fruits and fresh vegetables. Our guide was outstanding. We also lucked in to having a wonderful, cohesive group from three different areas of North America. Tom, the owner, and Pete , his right hand man were very helpful in the planning process. Both returned phone calls promptly and covered all the necessary pre-trip information thoroughly. They have a real gem in their guide.

“Amazing Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Thanks to Kaitlin and Irene for an amazing 2 day whale adventure July 20-21. We had 11 in our group including two teen age boys. All of the equipment was great and they made sure that everyone felt comfortable with the equipment and techniques before we left the launch area. We had great paddling conditions including some rollers which made it fun. On Saturday afternoon we watched 18 whales from the lighthouse! We also had fantastic food that was prepared by Kaitlin and Irene. They even brought cookies for those of us who need them for breakfast. Even if we had not had the amazing whale sighting this was a great time!

“Orcas and Eagles trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

This trip was amazing!! Our guide Kaitlin was professional, encouraging, knowledgeable and fun to hang out with for the day. We didn't get to see any Orcas(apparently, we didn't call them good enough!).. But we did see eagles and seals and other wildlife. Kaitlin was great to educate us to our surroundings. I felt so safe with her and her guidance even though the water was a tad rough on our returning trip. The food was amazing! We DEFINITELY WILL do this again! Even my 13 year old and 16 year old loved it! Thanks Kaitlin and Outdoor Odyssey for the best day of our vacation!!!

“Great Guide....old outdated kayak..disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Maybe our expectations are off, but from looking at competitors equipment for the same one day kayak trip, we think not. The main difference is that other companies we observed used newer, faster, easier to get into and out of fiberglass kayaks. I think they would be much easier on ones back. Outdoor Odyssey used old design polypropolene hulls that were dirty, had gravel in the interior of the boat due to lack of maintenance, As they advertise they are the only company that provides lunch, remember you pay for it and from what we were served, I say skip it. Some bread, peanut butter and jelly, assorted veggies, hummus spread, chips and cookies really don't amount to much.

The only reason we are giving a 3 instead of a 2 is based on the knowledge of the guide explaining about the limited wildlife and history of this part of the island.

Overall we would consider this companies trip a poor value for the time and money.
