“Good base of operations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011

The room we had was clean and basic. Had all that we needed with large bathroom, good sound proofing, TV, microwave and frig. Nothing fancy or scenic and no special amenities, but friendly people, outdoor spot to sit to eat or read, and in walking distance of ferry and many places to eat and explore. Since we came to the island to be out and about, it was fine for the price. And the price was better than other places on the island.

We stayed here one night to prepare for our 3 day sea kayak adventure with Seaquest. The room was small and adequate. Great walking distance to eateries. The proprietors even allowed us to park our car in the parking lot for the days we were gone.

I was scared to write this review until I got far far away. Totally weird and bizarre place. Basically little dark boxes that fill up a few double wides. I thought i'd "treat" myself to a stay indoors versus camping b/c I happen to hit a week of horrible rain and just wanted to stay dry. Honestly, would have preferred camping in the rain. Creepy staff (not very nice in person, and just odd on the phone), and didn't think it was clean at all. expensive for what it is, but probably the cheapest place on the island. spent money out avoiding this place, so should have just stayed either outdoors in the rain, or spent more on a real motel/hotel/bb. Seriously... do not stay here. It's creepy.

Room Tip: do not stay here. creepy, dark, not private, not clean

If you want a charming B& B, this isn't it---this is NOT a criticism. We spent two nights in Friday Harbor, mid-June, 2011. We were out of the room before eight AM and came back after 10 PM We wanted an inexpensive place to sleep and this met or exceeded that expectation. The 2009 review is still accurate--rooms are small, serviceable and clean, with a microwave and small fridge. I wouldn't call either the exterior or the room itself charming --- the rooms are in a series of small wooden buildings that look a lot like former barracks, with no real "grounds" to speak of. What I would call it is a conveniently located place to sleep that was about one third to one quarter the price of every B &B we contacted. If cute pillows and a gourmet breakfast are what you're looking for--fine, spend the extra $100-$150/ night someplace else. If you're going to spend all your waking hours doing other things on the islands, this is not a bad option.

If you're into 70's decor, ie: wood panelling, and cramped spaces, then this is the place for you. To call it an inn would be like calling a Motel 6, Versailles. The only good thing I can say is that it was inexpensive.

This was, by far, the scariest place we have ever stayed. The room was tiny, with barely enough room for our bags. The floor to ceiling wood paneling was scary. The bathroom was in two rooms - one with a shower and a sink, the other was a closet and a toilet.

The room was clean and quiet, and I guess the price was right.

I was very glad to only be staying one night!

You won't stay here for the view, the ambiance, or the elegance. You will stay here for the convenience, the price, and the functional nature of the rooms.

Don't expect these to look like traditional lodging. They are essentially doublewide dormatories in buidlings that look like mobile classrooms. We were in building 4, right next to the office. There's also no breakfast of any kind.

Your room will be sheet paneled with two double beds that almost allow the two bathroom doors to open. Be content to squeeze in. Both bads have headboards that protect you from the two AC units built into the wall behind each bed. Don't get too worried though, these AC units aren't going to freeze anyone.

Bathrooms are stool and shower and are only slightly bigger than a closet. Bathroom fans sound like airplane engines.

Outside in seperate foyers are two sinks and two closets. Floors are done with very old and worn carpeting, but it is clean.

Additional service in the room is a cable television, a credenza with a microwave, small fridge, and coffee maker.

The office is open 1-8 pm during busy season and there to help you register and fix problems. They are very good at that and the staff is friendly and honest. We lost an ipod and they got it back to us.

The unit is about 6-8 blocks from the incoming ferries and so very easy to get to. The biggest benefit to the location however, is the grocery market right next door. Great veggies, but only open till 6 pm Get in there early.

The hotel was packed when we got there and quiet as can be. We didn't hear a noise. For our use, it was a great deal.
