My second visit to Lakedale was worth the return tip. I again brought a group for a kayak-camping trip over which I book-ended 2 nights at this resort. We stayed in the very comfortable tent-cabins on the lake. The cabins are large, clean, and very comfortable. Besides a plush bed, each cabin has a table and chairs for sitting and reading or eating, a comfortable couch, night stand and tables to place alarm clocks or other necessities, several hooks to hang your electric lantern (provided) and/or your jacket, two lounge chairs outside the tent around the fire ring, and of course, logs, matches and paper to start your campfire. The added touch on this particular trip was an insulated collapsible bag in which we found two hot water bottles to warm up the bed on the cool night. There are regular campgrounds, bath house/restrooms (cleaned multiple times a day), a camp store with all the things you might have forgot to bring and activities for the kids should the fishing, swimming or kayaking the lakes not be enough. The provided breakfast includes fruit, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, juice, coffee, baked goods and a pancake-making machine. Overall the location is pleasant, generally quiet, and a short drive from Friday harbor or Roche Harbor. Our drive into town is about 10 minutes through farm land, past a vineyard, and often offering views of local deer (and a resident llama). My only complaint was the noise one night from a group of students in the campground that didn't settle down until after 10 pm, and the lantern which died the second night. (But we had our group's collection of lanterns and headlamps for our kayak-camping trip, so it was a non-issue for us that night.) My wife is ready to come back for a longer stay to see more of the islands, staying at Lakedale. Not a bad idea . . .

Room Tip: I have made two groups trips over 4 years, staying in the tent cabins. My guests and I all agree the...

The weather was perfect for a Labor Day weekend wedding. The Lodge, the cabins, the glamping the camping were all amazing. The camp store had enough for supplies but bring your own food if you like to snack. Breakfast only provided for Lodge guests. Groceries are a must if you are staying in cabins. Beautiful kitchens. Friday Harbor was so close and so quaint. Great shopping and restaurants. The Ferry was a great experience. Roche Harbor is beautiful too and a short drive from Lakedale also. Perfect family trip for young and old.

Room Tip: The Lodge was perfect, the rooms spacious and beautiful. ask for one that looks onto the Lake. Compl...

After booking 2 nights camping plans changed and I had to cancel before 48 hrs deadline for refund. I was only charged $ 15 to cancel. Then we actually made it to the campground and booked a pond side site for only $55. Fire wood was a bargain at $ 8 per bundle and I could not resist having a shower @ $2 per/5 min. While I was waiting for family there were 2 wonderful picnic tables, outside the bathhouse to sit on that overlook the septic field. If the bathrooms were busy I could stop by the conveniently located portable outhouses. We were pleasantly surprised with how clean the bathroom was, this is probably because there is notice that the bathrooms close for cleaning for 2 hours daily! WI- Fi near store was handy to figure out best way to get off island the next day. The campsite was clean but very well used.....I would not book here again especially if the place was busy.

Room Tip: If you cannot afford the $300 hotel rooms save your money and day trip to San Jaun Island!

Finally we went camping to this beautiful resort. After an hour on the ferry we drove less than 5 miles to get to Lakedale. The staff member was so nice and friendly and she gave us all the information we could need. Our camping spot was perfect, right next to the lake. The terrain seems to be compacted because it was raining when we got there but we didn't have any problems with puddles of water We were close to the bathrooms which were very clean but kind of crowded at the end of the day. They offer a lot of activities for all ages (crafts, face painting, t shirts tie dye, boat rentals, giant chess, ping pong, fishing, etc. ) The little store in the resort is very well stocked. You can find almost everything you need. We got some firewood and it was delivered to our camp site.
They also offer log cabins and canvas cabins.
The fee is not low but it is worth it.
Going back next year :))))

We stayed at Lakedale in early August. Their advertised "high end camping" is quite something: the only high end aspect about it is the price! For almost $50/night, you get just a regular drive in campsite, pay for your shower and get really, really poor service in terms of the teenagers who seem to check you in (we were foolish enough to expect that for that price they will try to go out of their way to make our stay nice: they barely meet the minimum requirements for service).
The lakes are really more like high end ponds and our campsite was lake side (but quite far from the one and only nice beach) and we were lulled to sleep each night by the sounds of the highway. Yep, the highway goes right along the "lake".

The showers also eat up your tokens as the mechanism is quite old, the facilities very ordinary and not clean. There was very little help from the store's "camping front desk" attendant, who after some time, ended up giving me my token back, but not even an apology for the inconvenience caused by their faulty equipment.
I cannot comment on the canvas tents or the lodge, they seemed nice enough, but the "high end" camping they advertise on their website is a joke. This would be an ok place if it was half the price but what they charged and what they provided left us a bitter and kind of spoiled our stay on the island.
I certainly am not going back there and would not recommend it to any of our friends. It's really just an extremely overpriced, regular campsite close to the highway with poor facilities and even worse service.

Hello DCG Canada,

Thank you for staying at Lakedale Resort! We appreciate your comments. We can only believe that the “high end camping” reference your making relates to our beautifully designed Canvas Cabins which are much different from our campground. Lakedale is known for having one of the most friendly helpful staffs on the island and we apologize for any inconvenience they may of caused you. We have taken your comments back to our team for evaluation and have reviewed our web site to insure that were not providing any false advertising. We truly hope that you will give us another chance to witness why so many guests return year after year to Lakedale Resort !

Sincerely,
Karl Bruno

We rented a Lakeside camp site for $52 a night and was very unsatisfied when we got to the site to see where we would be pitching the tent. This site had no grass and was just half inch thick dust - dry soil type! This was a pain with 2 young kids. We went back to reception to ask if we could move to a different site but was told nothing was available that wasn't in a similar condition.
We also found the previous tenants hadn't bothered to pick up a lots of dog poop that had obviously accumulated over time.
We ended up staying for 2 nights and even that was too much. We couldn't wait to get out of there.
The bathrooms were dirty and inadequate for the number of people who stay there. They charge $2 for 5 minuted and you have to purchase tokens from the general store.
The general store is very expensive with a very limited choice of items for purchase.
The boat rentals are very expensive and the boats are in poor condition.
No Wi-Fi or cell service at the site!!!
Expensive firewood service.
We woke up on the second morning to find they had coated the site roads with a foul smelling substance that sticks to your car when you drive over it. Apparently, the substance is sprayed on the roads to keep the dust down? I went to the general store to enquire what was this stuff they had put on the roads without telling anyone what to expect. The young kid told me "it's only sap, it will wash off easily." When we got home, we found out it doesn't wash off easily. Actually the foul smell is still evident and we had to leave the vehicle outside the garage.
I honestly can't believe this place is so popular!
If you're going to stay here, I would go and check out the place first if that's feasible. It may not be what you're expecting!

Hello Mario PP,

Thank you for staying at Lakedale campground ! We appreciate your comments and will review them with our team as were always making improvements based on guest feedback. The product we use on the roads is absolutely harmless. It is biodegradable, environmentally safe and washes off ANYTHING easily with soap and water. This is one of the amazing improvements we have made to make everyone’s stay dust free ! We hope that you will try us again in the future so we can prove to you that there are many reasons why Lakedale Resort is so popular!
Sincerely,
Karl Bruno

When split between five people, the expensive campsite fee becomes manageable - although a bit crammed with three tents between five cyclists. We didn't mind, but if you're travelling alone or in a smaller group, search for accommodations elsewhere! Watch for costly showers and firewood - but enjoy the complimentary S'mores package, we sure did!

The location is prime - halfway between Friday and Roche Harbours, it was a short bike ride to either of the two marinas, which were worth checking out.

The service was excellent, with firewood delivered to campsite via golf cart. We rented a fishing rod, which ended up with the line snagged in a tree.. We had to break the line to get it out, but not to worry! A very kind employee brought more hooks for us to tie on, and another rod for us to use for the rest of the evening. What a guy! We were definitely impressed.

To put a very sour note on the ending of our trip, the camp road had been tarred the morning of our departure. We didn't realize the damage it had done until we hit the main road, but needless to say wet tar and bicycles, shoes and/or clothing do NOT mix! We encountered another gentleman who had the same problem, and had had his very expensive shoes RUINED by the wet tar. We had a pair of shorts sprayed, a rain jacket, two pairs of shoes, and all of our bikes coated with the stuff. P.S. - it stains, I have yet to get the mark off of my canvas shoes. If you have to tar a high traffic dirt road, why not do it at 12AM, when no one is going to suffer from it? Morning isn't the greatest time...

Friendly family resort, lots of bikers (motor) and drive-in campers. Not ideal, but there were a few pluses as aforementioned. Be careful not to destroy your personal belongings on their terribly timed tarred roads!

Hello Keenan N !

We so appreciate you choosing Lakedale Resort and Thanks for all the kind words about our staff !
All of your comments will be taken into consideration as were always trying to improve our resort. The "tar" that you are referring to is a completely environmentally safe, biodegradable product that washes off ANTHING with soap and water. We hope that you will find that you can remove any related residue easily. Again we thank you for choosing Lakedale Resort and hope to see you again in the future.

Sincerely,
Karl Bruno
