“Snug Harbor Marina Resort - quiet laid back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

This was our first trip to Snug Harbor. There were four of us. We stayed in one of the new 2-bedroom cabins on the hill. It was extremely comfortable for four. Living room, dining area, deck with a Weber grill and picnic table, comfortable beds, nice shower, full kitchen. There is a large Armoire in each of the bedrooms. The gas fireplace was nice especially on a chilly evening. The view out the picture windows of the harbor is great. We utilized their firepit, with plentiful firewood provided, to roast smores. There is a horseshoe pit. They have a couple of complimentary one person ocean kayaks and a canoe, with paddles and pfd's. We did a guided kayak tour one day but did not get the chance to go to Lime Kiln Park to see whales because of a small craft advisory, which was too bad but couldn't be helped.

Snug Harbor is secluded but not so far away from everything. Perfect!

The cabins are in a very nice place, in the end of a road. The view is fantastic. From there you can go everywhere in the the island, including Roche Harbor which is the nicest place in the island for eating in my opinion.
Yet it may be that its the only place where the dogs are allowed. Hence there are a LOT of those, and some people may not be at ease with that. Indeed this involves some barking, but also some dejections on your front yard...
But the major issue for this place is that the cabins are very very small. We were 5 and this was far too small. The 2 rooms are almost the size of their beds.

Thank you for your review on Snug Harbor. We are in the process of installing two Dog Pick Up Stations at the resort to make it easier for visitors and guests to clean up after their dogs.

This was our first trip to Snug Harbor and I am disappointed that we waited so long to explore this beautiful, scenic corner of San Juan Island. The resort is tucked into Mitchell Bay in a quiet, secluded, peaceful cove that feels like you are a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the world. There is an unending supply of scenery and nature to look at including deer that come within 4 feet of you, teeny crabs when the tide goes out and playful orca whales just outside the cove and down the coast.

The cabins are a bit dated and cramped (3 of us were very crowded in the two bedroom) but they are in the process of building brand new, gorgeous (and apparently "green") cabins on the hill overlooking the bay. I recommend these cabins if they are available.

The staff is friendly and helpful and the resort is so laid back and relaxed that you end up interacting and talking with all the other guests as if you had known them for years. There is a fire pit in front of the cabins that draws all the guests out in the evenings to share smores together around the coals. The kayaks and sea creatures kept my 10 year old son busy for hours and the resort is dog friendly which is a bonus for dog owners.

There aren't many amenities so plan to bring all your groceries and cocktails (although there is a teeny store with the essentials - milk, beer, marshmallows). The closest restaurants are in Roche (5 minues) or Friday Harbor (15 minutes). If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing, perfect vacation then Snug Harbor is the place.

Room Tip: The comfort of the beds in the older cabins leaves a bit to be desired. I would recommend the new c...

This was our third trip to Snug Harbor in the last 4 years, and first since they upgraded to 3 new cabins. We stayed in the only 1 bdrm cabin and were the second couple to stay there. It is brand new and very comfortable with a full kitchen, fireplace, wireless internet, outdoor BBQ (Webber) and a wonderful tile shower with a stone floor. The view from the front windows is awesome out over Mitchell Bay. We kept our 20' runabout in the marina, and visited Roche Harbor often (it is less than 10 minutes away by boat)
Eric, the owner and Ken, the manager are very friendly and helpful. For our money the place can't be beat....we highly recommend it!

We just spent 3 days at the Snug Harbor Marina in our boat, and had a very relaxing time there. The new management is friendly and efficient and seem eager to help and answer questions, the staff is friendly enough, and the facilities are clean and cared for. The landscaping is nice(especially since there are deer to contend with eating it), and new additions and projects are obviously underway ( new cabins). The store has snacks and clothing and things you might have forgotten, as well as local art and souvenirs.Although we stayed in our boat, it looks like a fun place to stay in a cabin right on the water...I want to return during the winter months! We talked with the kayak tour guide who is based out of Snug Harbor, and he was friendly and informative as well. I would recommend this resort..it was a quiet weekend (aside from the thunder and lightning storm!) and the whole place had a friendly 'cozy' feeling to it. Try it !

Room Tip: We didn't stay in any of the rooms, as we were on our boat this weekend, but the rooms are reall...

Just stayed there for a bachelor party. We Rented a campsite and a cabin. It was plenty space for 10 guys to hang out during the day. The place was clean? Management was good, and the location was great

We stayed in the small room - it was perfect for a couple. It has a futon so you could have a child with you, but it would be crowded with three. It had a cute electric fireplace which kept us warm- and I don't do cold well! The bathroom is really small but works fine. We had tv which was a complaint before- but who needs it! The setting is beautiful. We saw bald eagles from our little porch area. There are harbor seals right in the bay and geese outside on the grass.
Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. I didn't bring a blow dryer, but they loaned me one from the office- you just have to ask. There is not maid service- you have to be able to take care of yourself, but they are willing to give you towels or whatever else you may need. Also the new coffee shop is great- good hot chocolate and have the oatmeal for breakfast. It is a good location to see everything on the island and be away from the main town.
A really great get away when you don't want to be in the middle of things but would rather be in the middle of peace and quiet.

Room Tip: If you have more than two people-even if they are kids I would go for the larger units. The small un...
