I traveled with a friend on this trip. Two females traveling alone. The first room we were placed into had a broken lock and the door looked like it had been kicked in. Not exactly the reception I was expecting. The next room had some cleanliness issues, but as a older hotel I can deal with some of the less than steller rooms for a good price. What I can't deal with is a hotel that doesn't have enough towels and wash clothes to make sure that there is a set for each occupant in the room. On the plus side, if you don't mind a walk the riverwalk is about a mile and the walk is easy. The SAMA is along that walk and there is a bike rental station and a bus stop so catching a bus for the sightseeing very easy.

The facility and rooms were clean. The room decor was somewhat dated, but the rooms and bathrooms were clean. Our room adjoined another room, with a single door separating the two rooms. The occupants of the other room were very noisy-we put towels across the bottom opening in an attempt to lessen the noise. The facility is right next to the freeway--problematic for light sleepers. It is close to downtown San Antonio and Riverwalk. Staff was very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for room that does not adjoin another room. All rooms appear to be equidistant from the freeway...

Our stay at the Super 8 was very good. The room was clean and we had everything we needed. The most impressive part of our stay was the staff. All staff, day and evening, were extremely helpful when we asked for directions and local activities. We had a special request and the staff went above and beyond to assist us. THANK YOU! Overall, it was one of the nicer Super 8's we have visited. The only negative was that the stool in the bathroom moved around and needed fixed.

Room Tip: When you drive up, the area looks a little run down but it proved to be a good place to stay.

Scary upon arrival... no cars visible in the lot, numerous rooms with their doors standing wide open... looked almost like preparing for demolition or something.. Once I got in the room (118) it seemed clean, no mold, had a reasonably nice mini fridge... the clock radio was set to the wrong time (in fact, it couldn't be set at all and the volume control seemed broken too) but the office eventually managed to find me one that worked from another room somewhere. One would think the housekeeping staff would notice that the time wasn't set right (and couldn't be) and correct that. Was cool that the wireless Internet was free, but one night of my stay it went down about 1am and apparently didn't get working again until sometime (much) later that morning. Travelling on business, the Internet connection reliability is really important for me. The first night I was there, one of the shampoo packets that had been left there apparently had been torn open by the previous occupant of the room. The showerhead offers more than the usual number of water spray variations. And the place doesn't seem to be anywhere near the "real" main part of the Riverwalk. Not a great place, but it does have free Internet (when it works), and free self-parking, and the price is cheap enough that I guess the downsides aren't so critical.
