We went to San Antonio with two separate purposes... My husband for a conference and me to tour about the area. This was the assigned conference hotel so we didn't review prior to arrival.
Check in was smooth, they offered an upgrade to a view room of the city for an extra $20/night but we declined as it had two double beds and we preferred the King. There's a Starbucks just off the lobby for your morning fix.
We stayed in room 2401. The room was clean and simple, king bed, desk, Average bathroom, Coffee service tray and safe are in room. There is no fridge. The usual suspects for bathroom amenities were citrus scented. I didn't find a recycling bin in the room. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were very small and flat or stuffed and fat.. not my personal preference.
Internet and parking were available for a fee...ours was included in the conference rate. No issues with wifi connectivity in our room.
Be prepared for a noisy stay on that side of the building... vehicle traffic, lots of emergency vehicles on runs past the hotel and because we were near the service elevators all the social interactions of the cleaning staff seem to occur there.
We spent some time at "The Bar" in the hotel. Service was slow but steady and we tried the kettle chips & dip as an appie.. we enjoyed them enough to get a second order. Bar prices are average...about $8 a drink for spirits, $10 for wine (6oz Malbec) ...less for Beer.
We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant one morning and it was not to my personal taste, I ordered over easy which is still slimy, I'm certain just the difference from what I'm used to at home. I heard someone ordering over medium which I'm sure would have improved things. It wasn't inexpensive.. about $40 for coffee & OJ x 2, 2 eggs & Toast and a bowl of oatmeal.
The location was fantastic... the hotel had a staircase out to the Riverwalk, across the street from the Rivercenter mall, 10-15 minute walk to the Alamo which is where all the trolleys and tour bus seem to congregate. I used the Red / Green Trolley hop on & off pass. They were great and used them to visit two of the Missions in the area which were beautiful.
Rooms with low numbers ie: 2401, 2402 etc are close to the service elevator.. ask for a room away fr...
