“great location, aged rooms and amenities. reception staff not helpful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

The location is great, the staff was great, but had the worst time checking in. Some of the room doors/key cards does not open properly. Staff said to pull on door and put keycard in to work. Had to go back and forth to the reception at least 3-4 times to get the keycard matter resolved. The code was wrong for one of the key and the other room just wouldnt open even after changing the keycode. Reception not helpful in getting the key resolved, they said nothing was wrong and to pull on the door, pulling on the door does not work if your electronic locks do not work properly. Ended up changing rooms entirely because they didn't or wouldnt send someone to check it out.

This hotel which is located along the very busy Riverwalk was nice in the fact that once within the hotel it does not share the incredibly crowded feel that some of the larger properties in the city have. With that being said, aside from the cleanliness and calm feel there is not much special about this property.

The service was decent, although a few of my requests for extra silverware with my room service or an extra pillow were not honored. The room was dark and in a sense had a dungeon like feel. Dark hallways add to this as well. The room service food offered was less than desirable.

Overall for an Omni that advertises its four diamond feel I was not impressed by anything. It got the job done as a place to stay. That's about it.

I stay in San Antonio at least twice a year and based on my visit. I would not return to the Omni unless I found a great deal.

While we are pleased to hear you found the cleanliness and calm reprieve of our property to be pluses, we are very disappointed to learn of the service issues you experienced and sincerely apologize for this. This is certainly not indicative of the level of service we typically provide and your feedback has been forwarded to our management team to review what occurred and addresses any breakdowns in communication. We do hope this experience does not deter you from considering the Omni La Mansion del Rio Hotel for any future stays in our area.

Got a room for the night so we could tour around San Antonio Riverwalk. Very nice hotel, had lots of fun and relaxing time walking around the riverwalk. We even took the boat ride tour, very informative. Our room was pretty good sized and the bed was very comfortable. I had opened up the snack/liquor cabinet, just too look and see what they had, the next day they charged us for chips and water. What, I just looked, we had brought our own water and snacks, who the heck can afford the room stuff. Needless to say my husband had to fight with them a little bit but they did reverse it. So what ever you do don't open that cabinet!

I have loved this property for most of my life. It started back in the 1800's as St. Mary's University (no I am not THAT old) and around the time of Hemisfair was remodeled into La Mansion Del Rio. Years later it is an Omni, It has always been gracious and classic and lovely. It is still beautiful and comfortable and convenient but the rooms do need freshening. The service is friendly, the food at the coffee bar and restaurant still very good. A comforting Spanish colonial ambiance, the rooms aren't bad and the beds are comfy and the bathrooms adequate - just needs a tad of freshening up. I will return and will recommend it. Very handy to the Majestic Theatre, the River Walk, and most of the downtown attractions.

The location right on the Riverwalk was excellent. You could walk out the back door and have shops and restaurants at your finger tips. Had a room on the inside courtyard, so even thought it was spring break--noise was not an issue. The Hotel was a converted girls school done in the traditional Tex-Spanish Style so it was kind of neat. With an inner courtyard with a small pool. While the rooms were smallish and the furnishings a bit tired, the bed was comfortable. The meeting facilities were a bit confusing because of the layout of the hotel. You needed to go up a floor to go down or to find a ballroom you had to go up and then across a rooftop. Interesting hotel.

Thank you for your review. We are glad your stay overall was pleasant and that your time on the Riverwalk was enjoyable. We regret you found the accommodations a bit dated and the layout confusing. Since our property is a designated historical site, we do have a unique layout which is quite different than most hotels. We always hope it enhances our guest's experience as opposed to detract from it and we do hope to welcome you back when your travels bring you to San Antonio again.

We just got back from a four night stay in San Antonio. The first two nights we stayed out by SeaWorld and then went to the Omni La Mansion del Rio.

The location is PERFECT for those wanting to explore the Riverwalk. The rooms are older rooms which are furbished in a very elegant modern decor. The staff was OUTSTANDING from the first encounter until the end of our visit. Every staff member we met along the way was very courteous and made us feel like valued guests.

My only complaint would be that we were with our two children, and while we had a beautiful room, with plenty of space, the beds are two double beds, when there would be plenty of room for two queen beds, as most hotel rooms have. Sharing double beds, for us, was very tight. We all struggled to sleep because we had just stayed in another resort with bigger beds, and when you have two people in a bed, a Queen size works much better than a double.

Other than the bed size for a family, this was perfect. My husband and I would definitely come back and book a King Suite without hesitation...we wouldn't consider another resort because we really enjoyed this one! We could walk right outside and be at everything in a matter of seconds.

Room Tip: If noise bothers you, ask for a courtyard room. If you prefer a great view and don't mind heari...

It's was the second time I had stayed at this property. My fiancé and I stayed for my birthday weekend in August. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a river view on the top floor because my fiancé conducted business with Omni and we were delighted with the room. The property is a bit dated but we had a great time relaxing at the property.

Room Tip: River view share a balcony with neighboring unit.
