The St. Anthony's is an Old property with lots of character. The registration staff was AWESOME - took care of every need! Location is terrific - 2 blocks off the Riverwalk. The rooms are HUGE; the food was very good. Had no problem with wireless internet service in rooms and business center. We had a GREAT workshop!

The St. Anthony Riverwalk hotel dates back to 1909. It is filled with history and a long list of many famous persons who have stayed at the hotel over the years. Unfortunately, its best days are in the past.

The hotel looks good from the outside and the lobby / lounge / meeting room areas are simply elegant. They look as good today as they must have when the hotel first opened in 1909. But the rooms leave a LOT to be desired.

The service level we received during our stay was fine, although our contact with employees was very minimal. The check-in and check-out was fast and very professional. They do offer parking about one block away but the cost is quite high at $20.00 per day for self-service parking. Valet parking is also available but at an even higher rate.

The rooms were micro in size. We had a room with one queen size bed and it all but filled the entire room. There was a dresser at the end of the bed with about 12 inches of walk space between the bed and the dresser. There was also a chair in the room but it was locked in between the outside wall and the bed with no lighting, making any reading while sitting there impossible after dark. There was also a small desk in the room but again with no lighting and no electrical connections which once again made it all but useless. The only electrical connection in the room was behind the bed.

The bathroom was the smallest I have ever encountered in a hotel. I honestly don't believe that anyone over about 6'2" and/or 220 lbs. could sit on the commode. It was positioned right against the small sink. A male using the commode would need to position himself sideways in order to use the commode.

The bathroom had a combination tub / shower. The tub was extremely small and I doubt many could fit in it for a bath. The shower worked ok but the shower curtain wasn't large enough to enclose the entire way around the tub so the floor flooded when you took a shower.

The air conditioning worked ok as far as cooling was concerned but the thermostat was very old which made any kind of precise temperature control impossible. There was one bedside lamp and an overhead light in the room. This made it impossible to read after dark except when lying on the bed nearest the table lamp.

In summary, this hotel doesn't reflect what I think about when I think of a Wyndham hotel. I have always thought of Wyndham as being first class in every way. The St. Anthony Riverwalk can only be thought of in that way when in the first floor lobby area. You can do MUCH better, and at a lower cost, at many other hotels in downtown San Antonio.

The St Anthony is a short two-block walk to the Riverwalk and the Alamo, which makes it convenient for tourist. The interior and rooms are early 1900 period style. There is a grand hall with several chandeliers and period furniture and statues. My room also had period furniture, but with flat screen TV’s. I was in a suite with a roomy living area and high post bed in the bedroom. The enjoyed the period style and the rooms and common areas were clean, but also showing some wear and tear. There is a pool, two bars, restaurant, business center, free wi-fi and conference area. There is self-parking across the street and also valet parking, both for an extra fee. There is a public park across the street and street parking is free from 6pm to 8am. Driving access to the hotel from the major freeways is convenient. I was fortunate to catch special offseason price, which made my stay economical.

Pros: Great charm and old style elegance. Warm and friendly staff! Mystique of the place being haunted! Comfortable bed!

Cons: Crappy water pressure in both sink and shower! Forget bringing the computer as the wireless sucks! Lack of good eating on premises! Needs modernized! Very noisy can hear sounds from inside and out! Not right on the Riverwalk!

Would have preferred a more modern hotel on the Riverwalk.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere!
