I have to move quite a bit for work. I have lived in NY city, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Europe and I am currently l am living in Hong Kong. Will be moving to San Antonio in a few months and was there to check out the environment to make sure my family and I would be happy living here.
Well, one of my criteria on whether we can live in a particular place is whether they have decent pizza.
As I had heard that this was the best SA had to offer--I had to visit for lunch one day. Well, the restaurant prides itself on its homemade cheese as much as its pizza, so I had to try some.
They have a right to be proud--their homemade cheeses rival those made in the heart of little italy in NYC. Except in a super expensive ($400+/2) Italian restaurant in HK--I had not had cheese like this in a long time. I really was so happy to be there, the weather was just perfect and I was sitting outside.
The pizza arrived a few minutes behind the cheese, would have liked more time to devour the cheese--but get it while it is fresh.
The pizza dough was perfect, charred in all the right spots to contrast the unblemished areas. The toppings and ingredients were all of high quality. My tiny complaint was that the red tomato sauce was a bit sweet for my taste, dont get me wrong--it was delicious, but I prefer a bit more heat and less sweet.
I have frequented many Napoletana Pizza places in USA and in Napoli--so I understand the philopsphy of the max 60-90 second cook time over the 800-900 degree ovens. LOve it
I have even been to the supposedly the best pizza in America in Phoenix, Pizza Bianco--bianco is better than this, but not much and the staff here are really excited by their products and they should be.''
So the verdict, based on the pizza, we can move here
