Neighborhood: Downtown
Description: Built as an addition to the original hotel and later remodeled by San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room.Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime brunch and traditional entrees such as prime rib au jus and lamb shank with linguini. Don't miss the popular Sunday brunch buffet, which tastes even better at a table in the garden courtyard.

“Wonderful Service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011 via mobile

We dined here mid-afternoon, looking for something light, as we had dinner reservations at a nearby steak house & did not want to spoil ourselves before hand. We were the only people there, so service was awesome- When we had issue with one of our plates, we pointed it out to our server. He promptly came back & compted our entire meal... We were not asking for ANYTHING, just thought that they might want to know that something was a bit "off" before dinner service started. Overall, wonderful management, wonderful service- next time that we are in SA, we will def be back!!!

“Mediocre Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2010

We dined here on Sunday for brunch. We had just arrived in San Antonio and wanted to get right into the local atmosphere. The hotel and restaurant are very nice looking. Unfortunately I would not return for the food. The buffet had many selections but was rather expensive. I ordered off the menu but was disappointed by the same selections I could have had at home. I was expecting a more local/regional menu.

“Best Brunch in San Antonio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2010

Looking for a quiet charming breakfast? Try the Menger Hotels Colonial Room. The brekafast buffet is a good deal which includes your coffee at least it did when my wife and I ate there. Rosa was our waitress was friendly and kept our coffee cups full. Sunday brunch is a little more expensive and the roast beef is to die for. You do need reservations for Sunday brunch. Best deal in San Antonio.

“You have to get the mango ice cream”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2010

Was in San Antonio for a convention so it was convenient to the convention center. If nothing else take a break and get the mango ice cream (about $6) and coffee. This is very filling. It is definately worth the experience. Also the fried green tomatoes were wonderful. Had sauce on them that was lightly spiced. Enjoyed the dining room experience. Pleasant wait staff. Food was served quickly. The a la carte breakfast was excellent. Breakfast buffet during the week was the same you would get anywhere. I am told Sunday is exceptional but was not there to try it. Lunch buffet was very nice. Did not eat dinner there but it was on the expensive side. They did have a prime rib special one night that I was told was wonderful but had a previous engagement so could not try it. Excellent place to take a break and regroup. Check out the cigar store close by and walk around the Menger and look at the history. It is a wonderful experience.
