“Great Family Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

My family had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here for 4 nights in June. Perfect for families with kids. Nice, but casual and not too fancy. We stayed in a suite with a balcony in the newer section. Room looked good and it was big, quiet and comfortable with a nice view. Kids liked the bigger indoor pool more than the small rooftop pool. Breakfast buffet was convenient, fresh and good quality - scrambled eggs, pancakes, bagels, sausage. We only made it to the cocktail and snack hour once, but it was fun and a nice perk. Self-serve popcorn and fountain drinks were available in the evenings, but the only bar is during the happy hour. Location was good and easy walking distance to the Buckhorn Saloon, Alamo plaza, Riverwalk, convention center. I wasn't sure about the valet parking, but it is was actually very convenient and the valets were quick and helpful with directions. All of the staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. We felt very welcome. It was a good value for the price. I look forward to another stay!

Room Tip: The spa tub and balcony tempted me to choose the suite, but we used neither in the hot weather. It w...

I chose this location because of the availability of valet parking and convenience to the Riverwalk. Those are two of the positives. The room was comfortably furnished and quiet . Blackout curtains were effective. Price was acceptable for location. The the lovely art deco theme has been maintained in the lobby area. Breakfast was served on real plates with real cutlery. Now for the not so good news: bathroom had a used towel hanging on door hook, a damp used bar of soap was left in the tub soap holder and the TV didn't work. There is a manager's reception starting at 5:30 at which free drinks and food are served. It appeared that many guests were making their evening meals of the offerings. The reception area is large, but still very crowded and noisy. At breakfast time there was inadequate seating available even with many guests taking their food to go. The real problem began after breakfast when it seemed that the entire 360 rooms of guests were trying to get on elevators. The long wait trying to get from second floor to 18th after breakfast was nothing compared to the 25 minute wait to get from 18th to the lobby. We finally grabbed one going up and rode it up and then down to the lobby, stopping at every floor. One couple said they had waited 40 minutes to get an elevator car. If you are traveling with a family and want a convenient river location and your kids are happy with quick convenience type foods, this is probably a decent choice for budget minded parents. However, I would suggest getting a very early start on the breakfast rodeo and demanding a lower floor that you can walk the stairs to and from your room. The bathroom housekeeping and TV issues no doubt would have been addressed had we voiced those complaints, but we had been working very hard physically all day and just needed a shower and a nap rather than a shifting of rooms at that time.

Room Tip: Request a lower floor so that you can take stairs and aren't stuck waiting endlessly for elevato...

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. It seems as though we did not live up to our standards for cleanliness and I have shared your concerns with our housekeeping staff and managers. Be assured this is not the norm here at the Drury Plaza. I apologize that the elevators were slow and we will work with our elevator service company to ensure that our elevator systems are working at full capacity to handle our busy summer crowds. Summer is here and we have a lot of happy, hungry family members dining with us for our complimentary hot breakfast and our complimentary 5:30 Kickback. We have a variety of room types and hope that should you return, you are able to experience our larger suites (some even have a jacuzzi!) that would offer you more space than our standard rooms. Thanks again for staying with us and we hope to see you in the future!

Great location (You can walk to all the attractions and back door exit takes you to the Riverwalk.), friendly staff, comfortable rooms, free breakfast buffet in the morning and drinks and snacks in the afternoon. Don't forget to check out the San Fernando Cathedral, which we could see from our room) and its gift shop/museum. Loved the Mexico Manhattan restaurant near the hotel. The rooms are priced fairly, but San Antonio's hotel tax and the daily parking fee really add to the bill.

Room Tip: A view of the San Fernando Cathedral is great. It's lit up in the evening.

I have been to this hotel several times and I always enjoy it. The kick off at 5:30 everyday to 7 pm is great to get some food if you don't feel like spending a lot of money on food and also the 3 drinks you get is great because then there is less alcohol you need to buy at other restaurants. The jacuzzi on the top deck is awesome and the pool is as well.

Room Tip: Get the 2 Room Jacuzzi and Terrace Suite with 1 King Bed Non-Smoking

We love staying at the Drury Plaza on the Riverwalk! You can't hardly beat the price. due to the kick back and the breakfast! It is very conviently located on the Riverwalk. We didn't have to drive anywhere but the zoo. We've stayed here now for the past 3 years and always look forward to seeing our favorite bartender, Annette! She is so friendly and makes the best bloody marys! It's always a pleasure to see her smiling face! All of the staff at the Drury are very friendly. Hector was also always around and making sure everything was to our satisfaction. The kids love the pool on the roof! It's a little small for the size of the hotel but it works out fine. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay on the Riverwalk!!!

Room Tip: Stay as high as you can to avoid the road noise.

Wonderful place to stay!! On the riverwalk and just a short walk to the Alamo! Love the 5 o'clock kick back!! Breakfast was great! Staff was amazingly helpful! The pool on the roof was fabulous....the only drawback was that it closed at 10:00. Would have loved a midnight swim!

Though this Hotel is right on the Riverwalk the hotel doesn't have any place to sit and enjoy it like the other hotels along the Riverwalk do. You either have to stand outside or sit on the edge of a planter. I brought this to the attention of the Hotel Manager on check out, but, he said the seating would get stolen???

The hotel itself was nice. The included kick start evening food and drinks as well as the hot breakfast was good for the budget.

Thank you very much for letting us know of your past experience with us. I appreciate your honest feedback to help us become better. We are very proud of our historic hotel and put a great amount of care and attention into it, and we are presently looking at some ways we could add a sitting area on the riverwalk level.

I appreciate the positive comments regarding our staff as we strive to give outstanding customer service. We hope to have the opportunity to exceed your expectations in the future! Thank you again for choosing Drury Hotels.
