“Five stars except for the free food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

This review is for the Drury hotel on the corner of Congress and St. Mary streets. The hotel is in an old re-purposed building that used to be the Alamo National Bank. They have done a great conversion. The lobby is truly spectacular with the original gold leaf ceiling trim and a huge stained glass window. The staff is uniformly friendly...every person you pass says hello.

I would recommend trying to get a room in the San Fernando section. It is in a separate building but you don't have to go outside to get there.

My only complaint is the "free breakfast and happy hour" food. We stayed three nights. After trying the breakfast and happy hour food...we passed even though it was included in the price of the room. What they serve seemed to us to be more typical of prison food than anything else.

However, that being said, we still loved the hotel and staff and would return. It's a shame they don't try as harder to serve better food by shrinking the number of items in exchange for better quality.

Room Tip: The San Fernando section was the last renovation. Rooms are large and most have wonderful views.

Location of this historic hotel is great! On the Riverwalk. Very close to everything. We had a jacuzzi suite which was very large, clean, and a great price. All the extra's are great. Full breakfast, Kickback, indoor and outdoor pools, two spa tubs on th top floor with great views. This is a really good hotel to bring kids to. The only thing they didn't have was a nice Bar to have a drink after a night out. They may have one in the near future. We walked to the Bella Restaurant which was wonderful loved Ralph the piano player. For my birthday dinner we went to Bohanan's , only a few blocks from the hotel.

Room Tip: The spa rooms are very quite, one on each floor. The view is ok, looks down to an out door patio of...

We took a long weekend family trip to San Antonio and had no idea where to stay. After reading reviews, we chose the Drury Plaza Hotel on the Riverwalk due to breakfast and afternoon cocktail hour included in our room rate, and it's location. The hotel exceeded my expectations for the price we paid. Our room was great and had a great view, and the rooftop pool was awesome. The views at night were incredible. The breakfast buffet was better than I anticipated it would be, and afternoon cocktail hour was a great afternoon snack after a day full of site-seeing. I would definitely recommend this hotel to families or couples traveling to San Antonio.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary .. First off walking in we were greeted with a happy anniversary!! Service was great!! Everyone was so nice didn't matter where we were in the hotel if a employee saw us they would stop and greet us ! Room was great had a city view of the cathedral and a huge jacuzzi ! The valet guys were Great as well ..happy hour at the hotel was great too we would always start out our night with our free drinks .. Location was fantastic all we had to do was walk out the door and we were on the riverwalk a turn away from all the restaurants ... The only bad thing the whole weekend was we got back to the hotel and ordered pizza from one of the menus that are advertised in the rooms called pizza express they were HORRIBLE !!! Do NOT order from them!! They got are order wrong and then tried blaming us for it after they admitted it was their mistake !! Other than that we will be staying here every time we go to SA!

The Drury Plaza is about 15 minute walk from the convention center along the street level. It might take a bit longer by the riverwalk. My room (14th floor of the Alamo tower) was very clean with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The hot breakfast (scrambled eggs, pancakes, oatmeal) were wonderful each morning and the staff were very courteous and friendly. I didn't use all the perks (free wi-fi, free hour of phone calls, pool, fitness center), but I will try next time I travel to San Antonio.

This was our second time staying at this hotel. It is the Old Alamo Bank building, and they have lots of touches throughout, such as the original vault, old photos, etc to keep that theme going. The Lobby is stunning, with Gold accents and it really takes you back to another time. When we arrived, we waited about 20 minutes for our room to be ready. The hotel had another room available, but the front desk mentioned that a 9th floor room was almost ready, and that they have larger balconies, so we waited. I am so glad we did, the room was really nice and the balcony was HUGE. Our room actually had wrap around balcony, I think the only one the hotel offers, and we had views of the Riverwalk and the church across the street. It had chairs so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the sights each night of our stay. We also used the indoor pool and the rooftop pool. Who would have thought we would be swimming in January, but there we were! The rooftop pool was really fun, great city views with 2 hot tubs. It is fairly small, but we were never crowded although I would imagine in the summer it gets cramped. We also took advantage of the complimentary breakfast offered each morning. It is fairly standard, eggs, sausage, biscuits, muffins, cereal, etc., but free and makes it easy to get something to eat quickly and be on your way. I felt everywhere we encountered staff, such as front desk, parking, and housekeeping, everyone was very nice and accommodating. The hotel is in a great location, we were able to walk to many destinations on our trip, such as riverwalk and the Alamo within blocks. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Request 9th Floor in San Fernado Tower to have a GREAT balcony!

Great room, so quiet, free full breakfast and happy hour with food and drinks, Riverwalk, roof top pool and hot tubs, good rate. The only downside for us was that our room had no view. But I suppose that was because we used Priceline to book it and had a really good rate.
