This review is for the Drury hotel on the corner of Congress and St. Mary streets. The hotel is in an old re-purposed building that used to be the Alamo National Bank. They have done a great conversion. The lobby is truly spectacular with the original gold leaf ceiling trim and a huge stained glass window. The staff is uniformly friendly...every person you pass says hello.
I would recommend trying to get a room in the San Fernando section. It is in a separate building but you don't have to go outside to get there.
My only complaint is the "free breakfast and happy hour" food. We stayed three nights. After trying the breakfast and happy hour food...we passed even though it was included in the price of the room. What they serve seemed to us to be more typical of prison food than anything else.
However, that being said, we still loved the hotel and staff and would return. It's a shame they don't try as harder to serve better food by shrinking the number of items in exchange for better quality.
