“Hotel Contessa: The most consistently WONDERFUL place to stay in downtown San Antonio”

From the minute we arrive in the Valet Parking area, we are always greeted as though we are part of a family. Actually, my family doesn't greet me as spontaneously as these folks do ...but I digress. Upon registering the family inclusion continues, with check-in being exceptionally smooth.
The front desk staff is ALWAYS amazingly accommodating and the concierge is VERY knowledgeable about "goings on" around town and always knows the best places to suggest for entertainment, shopping or "just being a tourist."
The waitstaff in the Cork Bar and Las Rambulas are among the most efficient and courteous I have ever seen (and Texas is KNOWN for its generous hospitality). The food is prepared to perfection and the bar tenders REALLY KNOW what they are doing, able to prepare even the most exotic drinks you can imagine.
The rooms are exceedingly comfortable and livable ... spacious, clean, sanitized and inviting. If you are fortunate to have a lower floor (3rd or 4th floor) River View Room, the sights and sounds are exciting and beautiful. But, of course, it is set up for ultimate, intimate privacy.
Finally, some of the most inviting, comfortable and soothing aspects of The Hotel are the Spa, Swimming Pool, Hot Tub and Exercise facilities. Clean, modern, up-to-date equipment for exercise and "Spic and Span" cleanliness of the entire area are hallmarks of this hotel.
If we sound like travel agents or part owners of the facility WE ARE NOT! But we'd be proud to be. When we say that this is our Downtown San Antonio Home, we mean it. We have stayed at MANY of the boutique hotels in the downtown area. Although many of them are nice, THIS ONE STANDS HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THE REST. It will remain our downtown San Antonio home for years to come. Come on down! You'll be impressed!

Room Tip: Rooms on the River View side on the 3rd or 4th floor are best for a special view of the exciting act...

The hotel met all of our expectations and exceeded others. It is not the cheapest place to stay on the river walk, however I do not mind paying a little more for excellent service. From the moment we pulled up in front until we left, the staff was always working to ensure our stay was perfect. They were friendly and always interacted with our children which made them feel special. The restaurant is a little expensive compared to other options that are available, but the food was delicious and well worth the price. The rooms were large and easily accomadated our family of 5, which included a baby in a pack n play. We would definitely look at staying here again in the future, and have already recommended it to others. Eddie G was amazing and a model for all other employees.

I made reservations two months advance for this business trip for a week in San Antonio Texas. The hotel offered a group rate at a certain price. Upon arrival at the hotel the valet parking cost $30.00, and our luggage was promptly taken out of our SUV and whisked away. We had both our laptops taken away from my person without asking us. At the front desk I was quoted another rate for the difference of three hundred dollars rather than what was agreed upon.
Once at the front desk we were told our room was not ready yet and was suggested to, “Take a walk on the river walk.” The desk clerk took both our mobile numbers and will call either one of once the room was ready.

Since we were flying for a while and was not in the mood to walk we sat in the beautiful restaurant at the level of the river walk. We waited for one and a half hours without a phone call from the front desk of the hotel. It this times my husband when to check on the room. The clerk at the desk was now a different person who said, “Your room was always ready.” We went up to the room which was clean, without any extra amenity. We had a view of another building. We were getting settled into the room, for approximately half an hour and we did not get our luggage delivered to our room. We called down the front desk and they said they could not find our luggage. We went to the front desk and to make an inquiry in person and were met with a bad attitude from the clerk. We then ask to speak to a manager. The manager came out his office with a bad attitude until I told him I wanted to check out and leave the hotel. Suddenly his attitude changed and the tone of his voice went from arrogant, to soft and sweet almost a tone of sorry.

He asked, “Do you want another room with a view?” I said, “No, thank you the damage is already done and I am very disappointed in the hotel.” Then the Manager had the audacity to say, “If the money is a problem I can offer you a free night stay in our hotel, and comp breakfast.” If I had my luggage I would have stormed out of the hotel, but at this point it was still lost. It took another fifteen minutes before the valet staff could find our luggage.
Once we got our luggage, we took off and never looked back.

Room Tip: Do not pick rooms facing the commons area towards the river walk side, during "Fiesta" or...

We heard Bonihans was THE steak place, we headed out to walk there and as we're waiting at the crosswalk, Aaron R came running out to tell us the earliest available reservation was 3 hours later! He walked us back into the hotel & showed us a Map with several other options. He was very kind and helpful. We also had a great experience with Leasy at the bar, she was pleasant and made sure we were comfortable and had whatever we needed. The hotel is a great location on the river walk, close to great restaurants but away from the really busy area. I will definitely stay there when I return to SA!

We are an over-sixty, retired couple who enjoy our travel, both domestic and international. The Contessa has very "livable" suite with separate living room, great for private area or for having friends up for a drink or visit. Comfy bed and pillows. (Ask for a blanket upon check-in if you are accustomed to one, cuz we didn't have one in the room that we could find). Great amenities, very affordable happy hour, great Bfast (got the egg white omelet-and nice fruit bowl-yum!)... From the valet to the registration desk, thru the wait staff at the club/restaurant, the service was just superb... And... The lovely rooftop pool, hot tub, and comfy and smart-looking furniture/decor was just icing on the cake!

Stayed at Contessa for two days conducting business in San Antonio. Hotel is located in the hearth of the city in the wonderful Riwerwalk area with a huge variety of restaurants, pubs, bars and shopping opportunities. Friendly staff, huge rooms or suites with all facilities. Vallet parking, free Wifi. I will for sure stay at Contessa during my next visit to San Antonio. Reasonable prices as well.

My hubby & I just spent 2 nights at the Hotel Contessa, we have stayed there many times before but decided to bring our pup this time. Wow they really ARE pet friendly! They even have a "Pet Room Service" Menu. We ordered twice for her. Presentation was awesome. She got her own tray with a WOOF placemat. A bowl for her BOTTLED water, (Us humans got tap water in a glass.)and a rose in a vase. First night... Fido's Favorite Chicken, second Barkers Beef Tenderloin. Both were a hit.

Our human food was as always terrific, room clean, staff friendly. We will be back. Love it!

Considering the fact that pets are members of our families, we’re very glad that you and your four-legged family member all received the royal treatment at the Hotel Contessa. Yes, our pet room service menu caters to dogs and cats and the personalized Woof placement is just a little something special, along with a full doggie menu.
