“Nice resort, good property, but not all the bells and whistles I expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2010

Stayed at this property for three nights with my wife and two kids (4 and 7). Booked directly through the Hyatt web site at a decent rate for the type of room we were looking for.
Booked a 2 bedroom unit. This property is located by sixflags and seaworld so great location if you are going to those. About a 20-30 minute drive to the river walk, Alamo etc.

Check in was quick and easy. were asked once to attend a property "orientation session" and we declined. No perks offered to go through the time share and we had no intention of buying. Never bothered again after we initially declined.

Our unit was great and on the third floor. Room had one bedroom with two double beds with separate full bathroom (shower and tub). Master suite had nice King with huge bathroom, Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, enclosed toilet and two sinks. Kitchen was well equipped with all the utensil you would need, a nice dining room table as well. Living room had huge 50 inch flat screen, surround sound for movies and a couch, and two chairs....very nice. until also had a small washer/dryer that was nice as well.

Property itself is nice. Pool is indoor/outdoor with two water slides (must be 48 Inches tall). Pool was heated and comfortable as were the numerous hot tubs throughout the property. They have a nice lazy river, but since it was not "peak time" they were not heating it. Felt a little ripped off that we were paying to stay at the resort but they said it was not cost effective for them to heat the lazy river...soooo, since it was not heated it was pretty cold. on top of that it was not a great week of Texas weather, so lots of clouds and rain while we were there.
The staff was pretty non existent as well..I would assume for the same reasons as before. It was mid week and I'm guessing not more than 20 units were occupied (just a guess). Never once was asked if I wanted a beverage by a server and had to walk to the small restaurant to get anything. They also do not allow you to bring your own beverages to the pool area. I would guess that when this place is stuffed they have more folks and all the beverage huts are open (they have one by the lazy river and one by the pool). Towels are checked out with a card...don't lose your cards or you will be charged 20 bucks for the lost card/towel.
They have a kids club that was open, although our kids only did one small project with them. The property does have a small store (very expensive) to buy things you may need. We drove to a local grocery store and ate all our meals in our unit. Saved some $$$'s that way.
Nice golf course that sits between the two Hyatt properties (other is across the street) but did not play it. Also the SPA at the other Hyatt is available to guests at the Ranch as well.

I enjoyed our stay very much, and it was nice to have the resort to ourselves...just would have liked to see the typical Hyatt Service even if their occupancy was down. That was the only disappointing part of our stay.

The Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch seemed to get a lot of good reviews on TripAdvisor so we booked it at a good rate and from the Hyatt website description we expected a great experience.

Bad stay starting at check in.....staff was rude, unaccommodating, had to get a manager to help us check in because the staff could not make any extra efforts. We had requested two doubles but were told that the studio's and one bdrm's only have one bed and a pull out - they said this was a "vacation club resort" (which it is) and that none of them have double beds except for the 2 bedrooms. WHY??? This is a "family" type resort, you would think they would have more rooms with doubles. We requested a certain building too and they also gave us a hard time about that.

Throughout our stay if you ask the staff any questions you will get a different answer from each person you ask - no one seems to know what is going on, if you can find someone that is.

All pool bars were closed throughout our stay. No pool attendants around either. Even when we went to get towels at the towel hut by the pool there was a sign saying to leave your towel cards and take the towels you need. We did finally see someone at 7 pm who came around to ask if we wanted drinks, but no one was around before that.

One very tiny, casual restaurant - not impressive.

Resort is very confusing to get around in, very spread out - they could use more directional signs.

Furniture in the room was all dinged up and footboard on the bed was all crooked or messed up.

All in all we were extremely disappointed and will not be back. We usually stay at Hilton or Starwood properties so we'll go back to those in the future.

Loved the lazy river. The kids loved the pool and slides. The adults enjoyed the secluded hot tubs. Very nice, clean and comfortable rooms. Quiet area but very close to Sea World and Six Flags.

Just back from a 7 day stay at this wonderful resort. Having never stayed at a Hyatt Vacation Club Resort before, I didn't know what to expect. My family left the resort very happy with some nice memories.

This was my first time to the Hill Country of Texas and I was a little underwelmed by the scenery outside the Hyatt. Within the Hyatt, the grounds were beautiful with lots of plants, flowers and nice looking buildings. The pool areas were very nice with lots of room to enjoy yourself. The main pool was heated while the river pool was a little cold. Parking was easy, right outside your building and all staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly.

The 1 bedroom Suite (3rd floor) we had was amazing. The furniture was lovely and the kitchen was beautiful. The bathroom was unbelievable for the amount of money paid for this room.

Food was good at the resort but we ate most meals away from the hotel. There is a huge selection of restaurants within a 5 to 10 minute drive.

We golfed at the Hyatt Hill Country next door and at LaCanterra (15 minutes) and found both courses to be fun and scenic. Sea World is 5 minutes away and Six Flags about 15 minutes with no traffic.

If you are looking for a very spacious room with plenty of resort amenities at a very reasonable price the Hyatt Wild Oak is the place.

We just returned from a week at Hyatt's Wild Oak Ranch and had a fantastic time. We had a couple of cold days and one rainy day, but the other 5 days were in the mid 70's and very nice.

The first two days we were there we were lucky enough to find the lazy river heated! After that they turned off the heat, but you could still float around and kept warm enough. When you get too cold you can just jump in the hot tub which is in the center of the river. We found the river to be our favorite area to relax, as it is so pretty and fairly quiet. They also have music playing (all around the resort) so it was perfect.

The main pool was nicely heated and also a lot of fun. Don't miss the sauna and steam room which are in the inside pool area near the hot tub. There's also a huge hot tub near the restaurant which is a bit more quiet and really pretty at night.

The fire pit pavilion was fantastic. One huge fire pit is surrounded by four other smaller ones and pretty gardens. When we were there, Saturday and Tuesday they had free smores.

The BBQ area was really nice, especially since it was charcoal, not gas. Just call the front desk about 15 mins prior to cooking and they will light it for you.

Another great feature was the media room, which had a big screen tv and two complimentary internet computers (with printers). One night we brought down a movie, popcorn and hot chocolate and had a great time.

Service was excellent. Every employee was smiling and quick to give a greeting when they passed. The only service that was a pretty slow was pool service, but the servers were so friendly it made up for it.

All in all, we had a fantastic time and would return. We only left the property two of the days and never got bored. Beautiful place.

Stayed here first week of March, and was quite impressed. From what I can tell, it's like a somewhat less-ritzy version of the more well-known Hyatt Hill Country across the road....but you get a 2-room suite with full kitchen and a heated indoor-outdoor pool with slides for a better price. And a lazy river! (although it's not heated).

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. And unlike a lot of vacation-owner properties, they didn't give me a high-pressure pitch to buy.....just asked if I'd like to take a tour, and when I said 'no', that was the end of it.

I paid only $179 a night, plus 20% off that price with Hyatt gift checks you can buy at Costco ($79 for $100 gift checks). An incredible deal considering what this place offers! But keep in mind I was there just before the big Spring Break crowd...so I'm sure the price is higher through the summer.

There's a playground, and they have some sort of family activity each evening (Making s'mores over the outdoor firepits, horeshoes, bingo, badmitton, etc.). And their 'kids camp' is supposed to be nice, although we didn't use that. My kid loved the heated indoor-outdoor pool, and the 2 big waterslides. The pool is basically 3 feet deep all the way, so it's great for smaller kids. The lazy river is fantastic, and comes complete with a sandy beach area. First come-first serve cabanas provide shade, and several even have very comfy hammocks. A small nature trail provided another diversion...we walked it each morning and saw rabbits and squirrels. There's a nice fitness room, several hot tubs, fire pits, a media room with computers and internet, a game room, pool table, ping pong table, and a DVD library. And of course, Sea World is a 5 minute drive.

The on-property restaurant was only open during lunch while we were there, so I can't speak about the food or the bar service (yeah, I sure missed the bar service). But the 'general store' that's on site features a few ready-made sandwiches and salads, and they'll do if you're starving. Most nights, we ate at restaurants up the road.

All in all, I was really impressed with the quality and value, and would recommend this place very highly! Especially if you can go during a time when you get a good $ deal.
