“Great time in San Antonio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

I exchanged my timeshare for a week at the Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch and had a wonderful time. The staff is always so friendly, the grounds are immaculate and the service is second to none. There were 6 adults in our group and one day we were rained out on the lazy river. We made our way to the camp Armadillo, which is the kids camp, to get out of the rain. Rosanna Segura was the Associate in charge that day and she let us wait out the rain by making us popcorn and play board games. We had a great time with her and the rest of the staff.

Keep up the great work and we will see you next year!

Great family hotel comparable to Lost Pines in Bastrop but half the price. 2 bedrooms have fully equipped kitchen, living area (complete with unusable sleeper sofa - even my 6 yr old refused to sleep on it). Loved the lazy river, pool and kids game area, nightly movies. Will definitely take advantage of the BBQ pit next time (which we were told the staff will light for you) and forgo JB's which closes at 9pm when we were there (really?). Be warned they stick to the 48" height restrictions on the slides diligently. This was a major disappointment to my 47" 6yr old whose birthday we we were celebrating during our stay. The concierge do sell time share but they are not aggressive. If youre not interested be upfront and don't take the bait,

We recently stayed for a week and of all things we enjoyed the toilet seat was one of them. I called the hotel when we got home and talked with Mr. Don Shows in the engineering department. Not only did he give me the name and model # ,he actually took time to look up the supplier name and phone number. I am blown away by Mr. Shows customer service.

We had a very relaxing few days at Wild Oak Ranch. We never had to leave the property. They have a small store called the Icehouse and we got breakfast sandwiches there that were very delicious and prices were very reasonable. I was looking at a coffee cup there and was joking with the staff, Paul and Michael about the price, that I did not end up purchasing. Later that evening Paul and Michael sent a cup to my room as a gift(Thanks guys)! I was pleasingly surprised. The only problem we had was the outside lights did not come on in time for sundown. I spoke with the staff and this was easily corrected. We would definitely stay here again. Very pleased with the friendliness of the staff!

Read a lot of the reviews on here before booking. We just got back and would definitely go again but would do things a bit differently knowing what we do now. We stayed in a two bedroom, two bath unit on the ground floor.

The bad (you will find these same comments echoed throughout tripadvisor) -
1 - The sleeper sofa is unuseable - the floor is a better option. The mattress is the worst I have seen. Make sure you have enough beds for everyone in your party.
2 - Be sure to book a room that is not a lock-out or shares any sort of entry with your unit. Ours shared an entry way with a big family in the next unit. They were in and out all night and the noise from the slamming doors (two) was awful.
3 - It is a hike to the amenities and the paths are not well marked. Bring the stroller if you are not in great shape for carrying your kids up hill. Bring the map with you.
4 - JB's is awful and overpriced. Avoid it. Bring your own food or drive out to eat.
5 - The "concierges" are all sales people. Avoid them. If they approch you - just politely tell them there is no way you are prepaying your vacation for the next 20 years by buying a timeshare.
6 - The units need a little work. Our dishwasher was not properly secured and tipped out of the cabinet easily. Could hurt a little one so check everything before you unpack to be sure it is safe. The blinds in one room did not close all the way.
7 - Tips are forced at bars - not optional.

The good and great -
1 - The amenities are great especially for little ones. My two year old loved it. The play room was just right for her. The outdoor movie and free s'mores (you only have to pay for the fancy ones) were a big hit for everyone. The pool has a sloped entry so she was in heaven. The lazy river was enjoyed by all including by in-laws who are in their late 70's. You could easily stay here 3 or 4 days with young ones and not leave (except to eat if you want to go out).
2 - Having a bedroom for the baby to sleep in while we could be in the living room was awesome. I love staying at these types of places for that reason.
3 - A very small washer and dryer was in our unit. Was nice to be able to pack light and wash as we went.
4 - Kitchen was well stocked. Be sure to bring plastic cups and dishes for kids though - everything is glass.
5 - Most staff (except for at JB's) was very friendly.
6 - Location is right by SeaWorld. A 5 minute drive. HEB, Kohls etc. are all within 10 minutes drive. Everything around there is a chain so don't expect anything else (it is the 'burbs after all).

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with shared entries.

We stayed with friends for a nice quite weekend off season (first after labor day) and the hotel was great, rooms were spacious, comfortable, beds great as were the bathrooms.
the lazy river and the pools were lots and fun and the hotel was almost empty so we had a great time, movies at night on the lawn, smores.

i just wish they wouldn't nickle and dime you, we paid quite a lot for the room and then they charged and extra 2 dollars for the smores and 3 for a tattoo for the girls in the activity room.... come on..... we just paid $500 for the weekend...

we ate at the restaurants at the nearby hyatt resort as they don't have a decent restaurant on the property.

all in all a great stay and great place.

The property and the service were superb. My family and I very much enjoyed the pools and slides, plus all of the activities they had going on during the labor day weekend. The rooms were very nice and spacious. We had a 1 bdrm unit on the ground floor. The bed wasn't especially comfortable though, so if they're looking to improve, that's where they could put some efforts in. I loved the proximity to Sea World and the free shuttle. We had planned to use the shuttle to go to the sister property, Hill Country, but we were enjoying our property so much we never felt the need to go over. It's very out of the way so if you want to visit restaurants, you will have to drive. There's wild life to be seen all over. We saw raccoons and cottontail rabbits at various times. We definitely recommend this place and plan to come back. I will say that it got very crowded during the holiday weekend and the next time we go we plan to do it during a less busy time to avoid the crowds at the pools.
