“Serving Great, traditional pizza for over forty years locally”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014 via mobile

For over forty years, Capparelli's has been serving some of the best pizza in town; Everything on the menu is old-school Italian food cooked to perfection! Don't get in a hurry... average wait time for a pizza is about 40 minutes; however, it is worth the wait. In a hurry? Call the chain pizza places.... want a perfect pizza?? Gotta go to Capparelli's. Excellent waitstaff, clean dining room; owners are hands-on to ensure that every customer leaves satisfied. Enjoy!

“Not terrible, but not real Italian either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

This place is a real staple of the Monte Vista neighborhood, so I doubt my review will affect anyone's decision to eat here.

I was born in Brooklyn, NY and have traveled to Italy, so I know real Italian food. Capparelli's isn't it.

The food is not terrible, but there are many dishes that are aggressively mediocre. For example, the Chicken Marsala is good, but the side order of spaghetti--well, the sauce on that is bitter and without dimension, as though taken directly from a can. The cannoli are another disappointment. You'd expect an Italian restaurant to know that cannoli are filled *all the way through* with cream. What I got at Capparelli's was a mostly empty pastry tube with cream only on the ends, disguising the empty insides. In Brooklyn, no self-respecting Italian restaurant would be caught dead doing something like that. Perhaps my standards are unrealistically high for San Antonio, which doesn't really know what true Italian food is.

In summary, Capparelli's is nothing great, but probably will continue to thrive because it has a captive audience, as it is one of the few Monte Vista restaurants that doesn't make you feel like you're eating in the third world.

“Good choice for lunch (and probably for dinner, too)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

My visit was at lunch time. Busy, but quiet enough for a civilized conversation. Service was welcoming and efficient. Lunch menu includes traditional Italian pasta dishes, a daily special, and luncheon combos consisting of a salad, iced tea, and a large, hot Parmigiana sandwich, either eggplant or chicken. Prices are about what you'd expect in San Antonio for a nice, but not extravagant, restaurant, Lunch menu prices run from about $9 for the combos to $12-$14 for pasta/meat dishes, all of which include a salad; a bit more for the daily specials. Salads are fresh, chilled, and attractively presented. The restaurant is in the Monte Vista neighborhood, a mile or so north of downtown. Popular place at lunch time, but street parking nearby is pretty readily available.

“Short walk from my brother's home. Nice atmosphere and good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

Had a nice dinner her on two occasions when visiting my brother an his family. Good tasting food and wine, excellent service on both occasions, neighborhood feel, and live music and half price wine by the bottle on Wednesday nights. What more could you ask for?
