A long time favorite of ours, Cappyccino's is an Alamo Heights bistro with a very well stocked bar and great food, plus outstanding ambiance. Long and narrow, with a bar on one side and booths along the other, and tables at each end, it features photographic art from local photographers, which changes every month or so.
The Shrimp and Spinach Quesadilla appetizer is fantastic--it is enough for a main course if you are eating light. Always ask to sample the soup of the day -- these are always creative and interesting sounding combinations, such as celery root and tomatoes, and usually make a gastronomically satisfying complement to a burger or sandwich selection. The Mediterranean Ham & Cheese is another favorite. So are the gourmet pizzas. These and various other selections are cooked in a wood fired oven, which adds a great flavor. Accompany the food with a Cranberry Lemonade if you are the designated driver, otherwise there are enough wine, beer and mixed drank selections to find almost anything you like and several you might want to explore.
If you are inclined toward more formal dining, you can go right next door to Cappy's and select from patio seating or a moderately upscale inside dining area on two levels. The food is equally good.
