We took our grandkids here for a Friday late lunch.
This place is a little rundown appearing and located on busy Broadway right across from the Witte Museum.
It was Spring Break and all the local attractions were slammed. Crowds were everywhere,
and we made our first visit to Picante Grill
They had a special on empanadas that day. One beef and one chicken empanada
along with salad, rice and beans for $6.95.
These were superb examples of that delicious Mexican stuffed pastry, and the best we have had in town. They were big, filled with tasty meat, and the crust was outstanding.
Their chips come in two varieties, the regular and the crispy corn.
The queso here is also special. It's made from a mild sweet white cheese and has an amazing flavor.
The stuffed poblano pepper is a specialty of the house. It comes with a creamy sauce and is filled with a yummy picadillo with raisins and nuts. They use a tasty seasoning in the meat.
Fernando our server was excellent.
The place is dark and looks a bit wornout, but the food and service is amazing.
