This place is extremely overpriced. The waiters and waitresses go too far calling people names and are extremely idiotic. My husband and I came here for an Army hail and farewell, so we did not pick this place. Just for two of us our bill was $75, way too much money for a dirty place that did not even have our reservation correct. It's annoying and we will NEVER go back. SAVE YOUR MONEY.

“Fun night at Dick's!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

My boyfriend and I were in San Antonio for his birthday. We went all over the riverwalk and stopped in here. We had such a great time! Drinks were good, food was good, and the service was as expected...Dick's, but in a super fun way!!!

“"Animal House" (the movie) Collides with a Rival Fraternity”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Dick's Last Resort was an example of where the movie "Animal House" collided with a boisterous, rival fraternity during a hazing: ribald behavior was sanctioned, if not encouraged. The long, picnic-style tables were shared by strangers. While this restaurant had a convivial, noisy, if not chaotic atmosphere, vulgarity ruled. It was de rigueur for waiters to mistreat their customers - whether it be in the form of carelessly tossing silverware from a distance onto the table, or by concocting hats (resembling a chef's toque) with butcher paper (on which insulting epithets - often of a sexual nature - were inscribed by bold markers). Quite frankly, this behavior tired quickly. Photo opportunities were a constant, as customers unabashedly modeled their newly fashioned hats. This was NOT a venue for young children. There were tables outdoors overlooking the River Walk (Paseo del Rio), but those customers missed the live entertainment inside.

Portion control was non-existent. The menu items included the standard pub-grub burgers, fish and chips, and lots of greasy, artery-clogging, waist-enhancing items that filled serving buckets. Other options, in part, included ribs and chicken ("ribs 'n chicky"), crab cakes, 12 oz. ribeye, and crab legs. My salmon fillet was actually a welcome alternative.

The treat of the evening was the performance by Surprise Package - a band that was a regular at Dick's. Three of the four members were influenced by the Woodstock era and had a wide repertoire that (partially) included rock, blues, jazz, and Latino. The basso lead singer belted out tunes that spanned several decades while impressively performing the tenor sax, and accompanied by the lead guitarrist who effortlessly and adeptly performed, along with the low-profile bass player who kept pace with his counterparts and filled the room with resonance. The drummer tempered his style to each song. This was an ensemble that had just the right chemistry. In short, the band cooked up a storm and crowned the evening with an outstanding performance.

“Never Again !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

We eat at Dicks every time we are in the San Antonio area so when the waiter came up and asked if we had ever been to Dick before, I said yes, and it was no surprise as he replied “good then you know we don’t care about you”. After all its Dicks. You know when you go to Dicks you are going to get overpriced drinks, mediocre food and humorous antics by the staff. But after wasting an hour and half at Dicks I found out it’s not an act, they really don’t care about you! They just want your money as their sign says.

Our party arrived right as the lunch menu had switched over to dinner. It was still relatively early and we weren't quite ready for dinner. So we opted to order a round of drinks and appetizers. The drinks were served quickly and we sat back enjoying the shenanigans of the staff while waiting for our food. After about half an hour I noticed that people who had come in after us were being served their appetizers yet we were waiting. After about an hour these people, who were sitting next to us, had been served their dinner and were leaving yet we hadn't even seen a morsel of food for us. Our waiter could tell that were starting to wonder what was going on so in passing he made what we thought was a joke saying “we will be served when we are served”. Everyone laughed, ha ha, assuming that our food was on its way. Well it was no joke.

After another 15 or so minutes I asked the waiter about the food. He tried to shrug it off. I had to tell him literally I’m serious where is the food! He disappeared only to reappear in another fifteen minutes and sheepishly asked what we had ordered because the kitchen had lost our ticket.

At that point just bring us the check. He quickly returned with the $60 check for 5 drinks, and said “sorry dude”. I have never in my life had a server come back out and ask what we had ordered. I do realize items happen, but, the waiter should have caught this far before the hour and half.

Given the situation I expected a bit more than “sorry dude”. It would have been nice to offer one of the rip off drinks they serve for free, like the $10 fruit drink in the flashy glass that my granddaughter had or some other little token of apology. Needless to say I will no longer visit Dicks when in San Antonio.

The one good thing that did come from this negative experience was that we ended up eating at Rudy’s Country Store and Barbecue. It was fantastic, better price for drinks and food as well. The topper, service was great. So thanks Dick’s Last Resort for sending you’re customers somewhere else!
