Where to start. We were seated outside and immediately it was clear that they could use some good front of house management. We were seated without menus and it took well over five minutes for anyone to come over and greet us. Finally we overheard a waiter asking a man in a suit who had our table. Immediately we got water and an apology. It took a while to order because it still took about five minutes for our waiter to come to us. They weren't that busy so we didn't understand the delay.
We ordered the appetizer tray--SO NOT WORTH IT. It costs $24 and comes with ten various apps. The "crab cake" looked like a tater tot and it had a tater tot taste to go with it. The shrimp was rubbery. The stuffed mushroom was only blanched and stuffed with goat cheese. This was like something you'd get out of your grocery store freezer case or a high school-level culinary class. The only bright spot was the bacon wrapped quail.
My petite filet was $36. It was of substantial size, but not worth the price... maybe more toward mid-$20s. My husband had the prime rib--I have never seen prime rib like that. It was three different sections--untrimmed and not expertly cut as you would expect that that price point.
Service lagged the entire meal. If my husband had not told the waiter we were in a hurry, I am certain we would have waited for a long time to get the check. We repeatedly listened the staff talk about other customer issues with someone who appeared to be a manager, out in the open. The lady at the table next to us finally had to yell for someone to get her credit card back to her--she had waited well over 10 minutes. The ambiance, of what could be a very lovely experience on the river, was ruined by a table with three kids running around it and yelling. No one on the staff was phased and it took my husband saying something before the manager "shot them a look".
The Little Rhein needs an overall in the front of the house management--staff is undisciplined and immature (at best). And menu needs an overhaul, too. Maybe its been the same since the 1960s? This restaurant has so much potential (location and romance-potential is amazing!)... but the service ruins it all.
