“Go on Saturdays for soup”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We've been going to El Mirador on Saturdays for almost thirty years. They only serve the Mexican soups at noon on Saturdays and often we call ahead and reserve our order as they sometime run out. Our favorite is the Azeteca. During the week, El Mirador is often the hang out for local politicians for bfreakfast. Many a deal has been struck within these walls. (If they could only talk)

“Consistently good food and service for over 20 years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

I have been going to El Mirador for decades and it is the ONE Mexican restaurant I take out-of-town guests to. My daughter and son-in-law live in Bellingham, WA and El Mirador is a MUST everytime they are in San Antonio.

“Don't waste your money!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

I decided to try this place based on other reviews. As a frequent visitor to San Antonio I've learned to not expect a whole lot from Tex-mex restaurants. This one was one of the most disappointing. Stale chips and then an attitude when asked to replace them. Food was overpriced and sub-standard. Go to Rosario's just down the street...that place is definitely worth it!

“Breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

The Sunday omelet bar is outstanding. Be hungry! The omelets are huge though the chef will try to reduce the size if you ask. And try having some of the potatoes be cooked in with your omelet. During the week ask for the spinach omelet for breakfast--smaller but very filling. Or, and somewhat of a surprise, have the pancakes which are among the best and not small. Friends swear by the barbacoa taco but I love the Josie which with or without bacon is deliciously unique--the cheese is melting and the pico de gallo gives it a zing--and the flour tortilla is lightly grilled to achieve the melted cheese. Last weekend a friend asked for an avocado taco with onions and tomatoes--he raved about it. Service varies but the waiters are friendly. The last three people visiting from out of town who I sent here loved it--one really liked that the waiters would take the time to explain what was in different tacos and plates. Great location near King William and on the edge of downtown.
