“A Romantic Get Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

My husband and I stayed three nights, just to get away. We are from San Antonio, but the Valencia made us feel that we were on a true vacation. The decor and the staff were great. Our view was awesome. I did not like the fact that the spa was located outside of the hotel.

The Valencia is a wonderful hotel. The beds are SO comfortable, the hotel is quiet and the staff are amazing. If you can, book a courtyard room on the 3rd floor. We really enjoyed sitting there in the morning with a cup of coffee. Breakfast at Citrus is a must - the breakfast quesadillas being my suggestion. The bar also makes a wonderful bloody mary for those who enjoy a little too much nightlife. The hotel is very centrally located so we were able to walk easily to places like Howl at the Moon and the Historic Market Center.

Room Tip: 3rd floor courtyard rooms are a must!

My wife & I live in Austin & travel to San Antonio for weekend getaways 3-4 times a year. We always stal at La Valencia. We like the contemporary furnishings & decor. It's low lighting, candles & fire pit patio set the mood we're looking for. Staff have always been attentive & proactive. Highly recommend

I stayed here March 23-26 in 2012 and let me say that this is a very nice hotel. The location is perfect right in the middle of everything and within a 5 minute walking distance from my favorite steakhouse there (Bohanon's). The atmosphere of the place is dark but it didn't bother me. The service is first class and if you need a microwave and refrigerator in the room then you can call them beforehand and when you check in it will be ready to go in the room. As for the room itself I don't have any complaints other than I don't think it was worth the price I paid. The price of the room for me was more about location so I couldn't complain in that sense. The rooms are little old and has some serious miles and it's not as pristine and perfect like I would have hoped or expected. But nonetheless it is NOT bad room either. The restaurants at the hotel were average at best as the food was mediocre and it was overpriced. All in all I would recommend this place as you're in a great location and there aren't any issues with the hotel itself.

Room Tip: The location of this hotel is excellent and in the middle of all the action.

The Valencia is a charning upscale boutique hotel. The only negatives I have ever felt at the this hotel is that they don't have a pool (not too big a deal), and I can see dust on the beautiful black door rims and furniture in my room sometimes (glad its not my job to clean it).
The positives at this hotel erase the negatives. Even the least expensive rooms are larger than normal hotel rooms. The bed linens are soft Egyptian cotton, the towels are cozy, the bath products smell heavenly and "sexy" for lack of any other word. The TV is flat screen with lots to watch. The room is an oasis. Dark real wood shutters, the lighting is subtle and interesting. There is a HUGE stand up mirror near a soft leather chair and ottoman. They place faux mink throws on the ends of the beds (looks nice). There is a courtesy snack tray, and a mini bar all stocked with normal expensive items, but still I love it! There's lots of seating and space to work or put on makeup, etc. You'll love it. And....hold your breath....you never hear other people in the rooms next to you, unless you have a courtyard room and they happen to be sitting outside on their tranquil patio when you are. The courtyard rooms are more $$, but the best in my opinion. If you go here, you should at least eat one meal in the restaurant "Citrus". It's the cherry on top of the cake!

Room Tip: Choose a courtyard room. They are much bigger and have a full table and chairs, with a balcony that...

The lobby lights are too deeply recessed & appointments swallow light rather than reflecting it. Same in the room, I was there for a weekend and I felt like it was the middle of the night the whole time. I upgraded to a room on the courtyard, if you do that be sure you specify that you do NOT was a room on the ground floor because you have NO privacy & will have to keep the shutters closed the whole time, makes the room cave-like. But you really can't open the shutters in any of the courtyard rooms because there aren't any sheer curtains so your neighbors across the way can definitely see in. I think it could be beautiful, if there wasn't such a pervading sense of darkness and gloom. The restaurant Acenar is fantastic, but stay away from the traditional mexican dishes, you can get enchiladas anywhere and they have several interesting & tasty choices on the menu. The location is excellent, right on the River Walk.

Room Tip: Request a river view room, it's your only option if you want a little natural light and still wa...

I loved this place and will go back again and stay.
The food was great at our event and I had top Notch service from Randy Jarzombek and Israel.
This place is decorated beautifully on the San Antonio Riverwalk which was a treat to visit.

Room Tip: The rooms right on the river have a beautiful view.
