“Romantic Place Downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We stayed here to celebrate our 10th anniversary. The staff was friendly and because they knew it was our anniversary, they sent up a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries...nice touch. The beds are super comfortable, rooms are very clean, and the location is within walking distance from San Antonio attractions such as the Alamo and River Center. There is a bar on the 1st floor called V-bar and it's a cool place to have drinks and dance to some good music at night. The hotel is kind of pricey, but it's downtown and meant for tourists (we're local). There is no swimming pool, which is is kind of weird.

Room Tip: There isn't much of a view around the hotel, so unless you want a view into the garden area, it...

The hotel was dark. The room was dark. We had a nice view of the river but the noise from the outside dining area of a nearby restaurant was annoying. Early Saturday morning a loud barking of a vendor woke me up. The bathroom was small for two people. There was no second sink so getting ready in the morning was more of a hassle. I was not that satisfied with what was included in a premium room

Reservations/Service
I booked thru the hotel website and got a great deal; 60% off normal rates. We stayed there from Oct 25-28. Prior to leaving, I joined the free VVIP club on their website and then called the hotel a few days later and asked for free upgrade. It worked nicely. Check in was seamless and they even gave us a courtyard view - ground floor at 11am! We originally booked a City View king room. Front desk was great and they provided maps and directions: No concierge. Check in is on 2nd floor; ground floor is waterfall and lobby/valet only. Use your room card access for elevator and room floors. Hotel staff was friendly and opened doors, smiled, and were happy to assist. I also ordered the $28 wine package (a red) and told them it was our anniversary. They sent the wine, plus a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and a card: Very nice presentation.

Transportation
No need for a car. Flew into SAT and took airport shuttle ($19pp)... Mistake. If only 1 person, shuttle is the best way to go; but since 1-6 can ride in cab for same price ($28). So, we took the cab back to the airport when we departed. Valet needed 20 minutes to get us a cab, so book early. If you drive, high cost per day to park at hotel.

Location
The Hotel is within walking distance to the Alamo, River Walk, the Mall and other close tourist attractions. Theaters are close by. Although it is officially on the river walk, it is not where the hustle and bustle is; but, is only a short 5 minute walk. Most of the river walk is on the U shape of the river. Take the $8 boat ride, well worth it; lasts about 45 minutes.

Rooms/Hotel
The room was very nice and the bed was on the softer side and comfortable. Nice large flat panel HDTV. Bathroom was just OK, nothing overly special. Ground floor courtyard room is the way to go. The French door access to outdoor seating and waterfall with fire was a nice touch. Room was very quiet. Yes, the hotel is not lit brightly, but that is the mood they are going for: Perfectly fine in our opinion. Room was refreshed each day and hotel was clean & taken care of. Several nice seating areas on the 2nd floor. Mini-bar is overpriced, watch for the 21% hidden fee on what you see. I accidently took mini-bar key home, called hotel and they said no problem. No swimming pool.

Food/Dining
We did not eat at the hotel. Many places to choose on river walk. There are a couple of coffee houses and sandwich shops, including a Starbucks, right outside the hotel. Nice breakfast buffet at Sheraton, across the street ($13pp).

Would I go back?
Definately!

Room Tip: Join the Valencia's VVIP club (on hotel website) before going - at least 1 week. Prior to depart...

Love location along Riverwalk. Staff friendly. Nice bar and seating area. Nice sized rooms. Thirds time staying there and will stay again. Eat at Luke restaurant just to the left of hotel. Lots of choice for walking and eating.

Only stayed there for one night. Service was very helpful. Room was clean. Lighting is very dark throughout the hotel. It made things hard to see. Especially in the room.

Overall i liked the hotel and would stay there again.

Right on the river walk.

Staff was impressive: friendly and efficient and proactive. Great location ... on a part of the Riverwalk that is not congested with hotels, restaurants and tourists. Lots of boutiques, gift shops and local restaurants nearby. I was only there one day and night but will definitely stay there on future visits to San Antonio.

Great riverwalk location to start from. Rooms very comfortable. No need for a riverwalk view although we got one. From the tenth floor you have to stand at the window and look straight down to see anything. A regular room at a lower price would have been fine. Nice place at the mid price level for the area. Worth it. Stay here.

Room Tip: No need to pay up charge for river walk view unless on the first floor. Have to stand directly at w...
