“Wonderful relaxation!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

As we pulled into the valet parking (there is a $25 valet fee), we were greeted by the attendants who were very friendly and helpful. Check-in was a similar experience - quick (but not rushed) and friendly. We elected to upgrade to a balcony room and were so glad we did. Our room had the following great features: crisp white linens, comfortable king bed, an ipod docking clock radio, plugs in the lamps (so you don't have to dig around behind the nightstands), Keurig coffee makers with pods (but there is a charge for the bottled water), extremely plush towels, toiletries, a Texas monthly to enjoy, free wi-fi (I think that's a part of the $25 daily resort fee), huge balcony with 4 oh-so-comfortable chairs that overlooked the beautiful pool area, workdesk, flat screen TV with extended cable selections (including HBO), a small refrigerator, a huge shower (with plenty of hot water but minimal pressure), nighly turn down service (yes, they remembered to fill the ice bucket), and even small recycling bins for sorting your trash. We were worried that we would hear noise from the front entrance and pool below us, but we never heard any outside noise.

We enjoyed happy hour at Sustenio. The staff was average -- not as friendly as in the hotel. The food and drink specials were wonderful. We'd go back simply for that! Room service for breakfast was on-time, accurate, and very courteous.

The only drawback to the hotel is that there's really not much to do nearby (but it is a short drive to The Rim and La Cantera). It's great for relaxing, don't get me wrong, but there is little else within the development itself. I believe it's only a year old, and I can see the possiblities, so I'm hoping the area will fill up eventually. Until then, it's great for a quiet and peaceful night away.

As others have mentioned, if we had stayed longer, a sundry/gift shop would be a much needed addition.

I took my two children for a quick overnight and we had a lovely stay at the Eilan Hotel. The front desk was nice and although we entered from the wrong side (surface parking and then a bunch of steps and then additional steps when we reached the interior), the staff were welcoming. The room was gorgeous and the view overlooked the pool and the tennis courts (room 932). We ate in the hotel restaurant which probably wasn't the wisest choice with an 8 and 11 year old but they got the grilled chicken (children's portion). I ordered the rack of lamb and risotto. The complimentary chef's yogurt mixture was gross and it worried both me and the kids as to what we were in store for during the meal but once we got past that, the meals were tasty. The risotto was a little too al dente for me but it was flavorful and the lamb was delicious. The kids loved the chicken and the creamy potatoes. The young man assisting our waiter had his timing a little off as our bread selections didn't arrive until after our meals were cleared and my coffee had arrived but that's o.k. The ambiance was nice. The complex that the hotel resides is very empty. Hopefully retailers, wine and restaurants will join in. It's a huge complex and it's a shame there's not more there.

Room Tip: Our room was a standard room with a gorgeous view: 932

We went to the Eilan hotel to surprise our parents for a very big wedding anniversary. Originally it was just send them out to the hotel, they live in San Antonio, have dinner and breakfast on us kids.
Then one of the siblings decided that it was better if he and his wife went to dinner as well. Next thing you know we are planning a drive to San Antonio.
The room reserved was a spa king. The spa part because the shower has the most wonderful rain shower in it. Although I am not so sure it was fully enjoyed by two at their age. The king part, I guess because of the bed.
The colors of the room are extremely soothing. Sea green and cream colors. Nice tv. We did get a complaint the the closet did not have sufficient hanging space. Although for overnight I am not sure how much space one needs.
Sustenio is the fine dining restaurant owned by Stephen Pyles of Dallas fame. About six months ago we met the chef and manager and were very impressed. Sadly both were gone on this visit.
For a party of seven we were put into one of the private alcoves that was very nice for conversation.
The southwestern menu is typical of Chef Pyles. The assortment of ceviches was very nice. Although they were put on the table without any explanation. We all ordered different things. The center cut cowboy ribeye was huge and swimming in sauce covered with onion straws. Cooked right just not the best piece of meat for $48
The others had lamb chops, excellent and fish so so.
The disappointment was in the lack of recognition of the big anniversary in any way. They offered a champagne toast then simply did not bring it. They poured wine like they were paying for it.
When desert time came I really thought they would have brought out a plate of something wishing happy anniversary. Nope.
I had to look over the bill closely for several mistakes, including charging $30 for a single malt by accident.
Overall I think chef Pyles needs to have a bit more hands on.
As far as the rest of the time there is a $25 resort fee. The workout facility will be very nice one day. However the machines were not connected to the tv nor were there headphones. No phone in the room for emergency.
To sum up, this will be a nice place to visit eventually, located near great shopping and a fun amusement park.

The hotel is beautiful from the outside, it feels like the Venetian in Vegas - almost. The inside decor was elegant, high quality and classy, but a bit uninteresting for me.

Service was good, but not beyond what you expect in a hotel of this category.Cell phone coverage is almost nonexitent (ATT) and the WiFi was spotty.

The room was very spacious. The bathroom is beautiful, with lots of indirect lights. High quality toiletries, very high quality towels and a robe. The bed was super comfortable, one of the best I have slept in, if not the best. The room design is elegant but plan, if that makes sense, it's just not my style - but not displeasing in any way.

The hotel is somewhat isolated, and while there is a restaurant and room service it would be nice to have a little store to get snacks and drinks. The Fiji bottle of water in your room is $6. There are other buildings around the hotel, also with the italian theme, some are being leased to businesses including one restaurant. Surely soon there will be more options.

Beautiful new hotel in the Cantera area; next to Cantera mall and the Rim. Next to Fiesta Texas.
New clean and beautiful
Not for tourists who are want to be near Alamo and river walk .
You need a car and need to be familiar with SA to enjoy this hotel.
Great golf course next door / at the Westin

I recently booked a three day weekend stay at the Eilan Hotel for our 31 anniversary. This is a beautiful resort hotel in the La Cantera area. This was the first time I booked through Expedia and wasn't sure if I'd get a less than desirable room. I can say that both Expedia & hotel dealings were flawless.

I did call hotel to advise of a late arrival 24 hrs out and talked to Lucas, Asst. Office Manager. I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary and when we arrived in our room, we were warmly greeted with a hand-written note and some goodies. That set the tone for a great stay at the Eilan. All the staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome and appreciated.

Room Tip: I highly recommend staying at this hotel and recommend booking a spa room if you enjoy a great showe...

How this property recieved a Leading Hotel designation I will never figure out. Located away from the tourist sites of the city and surrounded by a huge matching apartment complex this hotel is strange indeed. Considered part of the Leading Hotels of the World Group is very strange as the quality in no way compares to most of the groups other properties. From the outside it appears grand and opulent but from the inside it is all stage setting and imagineering. We had to change rooms due to doors which did not close (construction defect) which would be expected in the first month of opening but a year later is ridiculous. As a Leading Hotel member we expect understated luxury, top service and rooms of a quality which you would not find at this five star level. Plastic gaudy furniture, rumpled linen, basic and sparse toiletries, views of parking lots and swimming pool under repair. (ok it was the first week in January so the empty pool was understandable) but the spa was also closed and to have a massage you went to an empty suite. But really, plastic furniture, showy, basic accomadations is not what one should expect at a Leading Hotel. If we had not just checked out of the Hotel Grand Duca, in Houston, another Leading Hotel, the week before, where we stayed for six days over Christmas I might have thought Leading Hotels had dropped a notch. But our stay in Houston was supurb and the Eilan was a gaudy, plastic behemoth which appeared to be in the throws of financial difficulty.

Now the good part! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The masseur from the spa was top notch! Now I am not one to write so poorly about a property without giving management a chance for rebuttal. As we checked out I asked the manager to join my wife and I in the vast open lobby seating area. She apologized and agreed with the problems we had encountered, she wrote an apology letter a few days later. This is unfortunately a hotel which has not found its place and demographic. This hotel is out of the way unless you are in San Antonio only to shop and eat at chain resturants. To see the sites of this marvelous city and the famous riverwalk you will fight traffic for half an hour to the city center. To play golf you need to go to the nearby Marriott. In my opinion Leading Hotels of the World falsely includes this property in their portfolio. It cannot compare to most of the other properties in their worldwide club of luxury. Sorry!

Room Tip: Sorry, you either overlook a parking lot or an apartment complex!
